The Facts of Life - Spin-off Attempts?

I was watching the third season of this show on DVD (I'm hooked, despite my wife's protests) and noticed two "spin-off attempts," essentially one episode into the next: The Academy and Jo's Cousin.

Both episodes looked pretty good to me. The first had Billy Tate from "Soap" as a cadet, and that little kid from "Taps," who got shot before Tom Cruise did his explosive finale.

The second had Dutch from "Soap" as a dad, and two dopey italian sons (one of which reminded me of a kid working in my warehouse)...and one 14-year old daughter, coming into her own...as a "woman." Jo tries to run interference in this episode, but the rest is dedicated to this family of four.

Did either of these shows have a run, even if it was just for a couple of episodes? There's no mention on the internet I could find. Perhaps neither were considered, which is possible.

none of them made it past the pilot stage. there were also more attempts, I think they had 5 or 6 of these type of episodes total.

Spoiler:
He wasn't the one that was shot. He made a break for the fence, with another kid trying to stop him. It was the second one that got shot.

He was also the very first customer shown on Cheers.

The end of The Facts of Life was also a tryout for a new show with Blair as headmistress of the Eastland School, now accepting boys like Seth Green.

They served little kids in bars? Boy, that Sam Malone.

Spoiler:
Mr. Goose, you're absolutely right with what you said in your spoiler (who hasn't seen Taps by now, other than me who really needs to see it again before making these kinds of posts). I hope I haven't ruined anybody's day by telling you the wrong kid got shot. Yes, it was the kid who made a break for the fence, yelling "don't kill me, don't kill me." ...something tells me that's a misquote and I need to see the movie again.

Absolutely not. That is ridiculous.

So those shows went nowhere? When I watched them over this weekend, I actually remembered them. Not bad for a "one-shot."
