The Facts of Life - Spin-off Attempts?
I was watching the third season of this show on DVD (I'm hooked, despite my wife's protests) and noticed two "spin-off attempts," essentially one episode into the next: The Academy and Jo's Cousin.
Both episodes looked pretty good to me. The first had Billy Tate from "Soap" as a cadet, and that little kid from "Taps," who got shot before Tom Cruise did his explosive finale.
The second had Dutch from "Soap" as a dad, and two dopey italian sons (one of which reminded me of a kid working in my warehouse)...and one 14-year old daughter, coming into her own...as a "woman." Jo tries to run interference in this episode, but the rest is dedicated to this family of four.
Did either of these shows have a run, even if it was just for a couple of episodes? There's no mention on the internet I could find. Perhaps neither were considered, which is possible.

Spoiler:
He was also the very first customer shown on Cheers.
The end of The Facts of Life was also a tryout for a new show with Blair as headmistress of the Eastland School, now accepting boys like Seth Green.
