The Big Bang Theory...Worst Sitcom Ever?

They're showing the pilot on Discovery Channel, and it's 2:30am and I'm still awake soooo...I'm watching it and wow, it's awful. It's probably the most unfunny thing I've ever seen. If you took a committee of Mensa members and asked them to write a sitcom based on what they think two stereotypical nerds living next to a hot girl would be like. There's WoW jokes, Klingon jokes, string theory jokes, masturbation jokes, and the main characters get pantsed by the hot girl's burly ex-boyfriend, all without getting within a mile of anything that's actually funny. I wish I could somehow erase it from my memory, but once you watch it, you can't unwatch it.

I thought it was funny. It's the Lenny & Squiggy Show. Mostly slapstick, obvious and in your face jokes. There were a lot of inside references to things only nerds would understand, but they were layered beneath more obvious jokes.

I think the Cavemen pilot will challenge your assertion.

I thought the pilot was a little painful to watch, maybe it hit too close to home...

Huh. I liked it - I was laughing.

The Cavemen pilot was MUCH worse.

It had the hot blonde daughter from 8 Simple Rules, so I am okay with it. There is no way they could reasonably stretch the premise out over a season and still get laughs. There were hardly any laughs for the first show.

Cavemen was just plain awful.

Why in the world did they air the pilot on the Discovery Channel? That doesn't sound right. Are you sure about that?

You must not have seen The Mullets.

Anyway, I was debating watching this one. Thanks for the warning.

Can't be worse than that show about Abe Lincoln's butler.

Ugh! The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer lives on.

Considering it is essentially replacing The Class, I don't think CBS expects to get much better ratings anyway... I'm going to record it since it is a free half hour on my TiVo after How I Met Your Mother (and Chuck)so I'll give it a spin.

Yup, right here. And I was very impressed -- the physics talk is right on the money. They're obviously getting some good technical consulting and know their audience will crucify them if they get this wrong.

I think the OP is on crack -- this is one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time. Even if you're not a physics geek.

Worst sitcom ever? Hyperbole much?

My TiVo had the first episode for me, and I got a kick out of it. The laugh track was very annoying, however, and the one friend in plaid pants irked me for some reason. It could work given time, but I don't think this'll make it.

i had actually heard good things about it. i liked kaley cuoco in 8 simple rules and i gotta at least give johnny galecki a chance. i think you are being a bit harsh. this looks like one worth checking out.

Worst ever?

From IMDB:

Mr. Smith was a talking orangutan with an IQ of 256 that worked as a political advisor in Washington, D.C. Only a small number of people knew Mr. Smith's secret, so while Mr. Smith was trying to solve any number of political problems, his friends were trying to keep his profile low.

Saw the pilot on TiVo for free. Not funny but the premise has some potential. Just another sitcom no one should lose sleep over.

There's your answer. TiVo sometimes has videos/previews. They have a deal with Discovery where they are shown at some early time so all TiVos can record them.

It was funny. The line about how one guy had to invent 23 dimensions to make his math on string theory work was funny, cuz it's true.

Ouch...Its not a good thing that I got that joke, is it?
