Using TiVo to Copy my DVD's

I am not sure if this is ok to post but I wanted to copy my DVD's easly cause my little boy (almost 2) always gets his hands on some and I worry about getting them broken.
I got a VCR/DVD Recorder with other DVD hooked to it. However most of the DVD's want copy due to copyright protection.
Last night I hook the one dvd play up to TiVo and then used to DVD recored to recorde the DVD. It worked with NO PROBLEM!!!
I am not use if this is know here but I thought maybe some people would like to back up thier dvds.
Again sorry if I shouldn't post this.

I'm really surprised a long time member doesn't know this type of question isn't ok here.
