HERO or HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS

I watched both recently and liked HOFD more albeit I read on imdb many prefer HERO. So I'd like to know what are preferencies here on DVDtalk. And feel free to tell why you go for one or another.

I thought the opposite, the cinematography was better for 'Hero', IMO.

I thought they were about the same. I liked them both neither stood out above the other for me.

Hero by far for me. For some reason I couldn't get into HoFD.

Eventhough both movies are masterpieces, I think HERO is the better film since it has Dustin Hoffman, Geena Davis, and Andy Garcia in it.

Hero had more action, but Daggers was so beautifully shot, I have to go with it. It's truly a moving poem.

As far as story goes, both had good points and many problems, so it's a toss up in that regards.

I voted Hero because
Spoiler:
it didn't have Ziyi Zhang die a billion times

Everything negative that has been said about HOFD, I agree with. SUCH a let down after Hero.

I concur. This thread has got me thinking. Think I'll finally watch Curse of the Golden Flower.

Curse of the Golden Flower!

Kidding (since it wasn't a choice)...between the two, House of Flying Daggers.

Hero has gravitas and beauty.

The House of Flying Daggers has only beauty.

Curse of the Golden Flower has fleeting beauty within a trite soap opera frame.

I loved them both, but I prefer House of Flying Daggers

No Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon option?

voted for HOFD

I love both and it's really almost a toss-up, but in the end I'm a sucker for love stories and HOFD has a pretty good one.

No, because I was interested in comparing two of Yimou Zhang films. So I see now - people who go for HERO go for story and fighting scenes, and those who vote in favor of HOFD go for beauty. Somehow I chose beauty too

HoFD was a bit prettier, but it just dragged for me. Hero is my pick.
