Weekend Box Office Thread August 3-5,2007-"Bourne Again" edition

Seeing that no one has started a thread on this yet...

Bourne Supremacy did $52.5 million its first weekend in July 2004, the positives this time: great reviews, and hardly any action movie competition. Also, according to boxofficeguru, Ultimatum is opening on 500 more screens than Supremacy. So is it going to beat Supremacy???

http://www.boxofficeguru.com/weekend.htm

Screen counts for other releases:
Underdog 2,800
Hot Rod 2,500
Bratz 1,500

Big screen losers(although oddly Simpsons is missing from the chart entirely)

http://boxofficemojo.com/counts/char...7&wk=31&p=.htm

Harry Potter -900
Transformers -900
Ratatouille -1000
License to Wed -1300

I see it doing $57m for the weekend. Simpsons should hold well for 2nd place.

Will we get any number from any of the midnight showings last night? I'm thinking the 55-60 range for Bourne.

Box Office Discussion 8/3-8/5 "Bourne to be #1"

Fantasy Mougels reports Bourne Ultimatum earned $25.5 million on Friday and is predicting a $72 million weekend, which tops Supremacy's $52 million opening in 2004. Showbizdata does not have full numbers up yet.

Also of note, The Simpsons earned $8 million on Friday and is on track for a $25 million weekend, which would translate to a 66% drop. OUCH. I thought everyone loved this movie?

didn't see that one. Normally they aren't created until actual numbers are in. I guess people are getting impatient nowadays.

my post is now in that thread. mods can close this one.

It was also a movie with a lot of demand (Viewers waited a long time for it) and was enormously front loaded ($30m friday, $23m Saturday). Wouldn't be surprised if it held up a little better on Saturday though.

Not a movie I'd pay to resee on the big screen but one I'd rewatch at home.

Bourne looks like a $65 million opening which I'd say is pretty good.
I am very happy to see Bratz, Hot Rod, and Underdog bomb.

Did you even see any of those three films?

Does someone have to see a film in order to be happy that they're not doing well? I know in the past, I've been glad a movie tanked that had a star in it that I hated. Or a story that I thought was ridiculous. Regardless of the reviews.

^No, but they certainly sound and look absolutely terrible. Sometimes you dont need to to see a movie in order to have an opinion that it is indeed terrible.

Yea, I'm pretty sure no one here needs to see Bratz to wish it a timely demise at the BO.

I wouldn't cry. It's going to have a long life on DVD and pay cable. Theatrical means little here.

to Hot Rod tanking.
Doesn't seem too surprising to me. The ads just didn't seem funny. Each time I saw the trailer, the only response from the audience were "Oooooh"'s when Rod's stunts went wrong, but nobody was laughing.

Past few weeks these threads have been started 1-2 days in advance, which is silly. Seems like the first post should be about what Friday's numbers were.

The other thing hurting Hot Rod is that it's core audience is veging in front of the TV watching the X-Games.
