View Full Version : Best Buy - Free Superbad Ticket (w/ purchase of...?)

This doesn't look like a dupe, but maybe...

I went to BB on Sunday, and on the New Release table were those little cardboard sleeves with a Superbad bonus disc and a "free" ticket. The pricetag says $11.99, and it says "See Store Display For Details". However, no store display, and no indication of what other purchase would go with it to make it free.

In the action section, I happened to scope Bad Boys (lame 2000 SE) for $9.99 with a "Free Superbad Ticket!" sticker on the front, also telling me to check the display for details. I searched, but could find no other Sony/Columbia movies with that sticker.

I took it to the cashier, and it did not enable a package price. They overrode it, so I ended up with the bonus disc, ticket ($10.50 value, btw), and Bad Boys for $9.99 + tax.

Now I have an extra Bad Boys. Lame.

They said maybe it was last week's sale... I'm thinking it's next week's (not posted by speedy...yet.). So, check that out.

Also, the disc has:
3 scenes (Penis Doodles, McLovin Interrogation, and Evan's Phone Call, about 10min total), a Riding in the Cop Car... uhh... thing (about 11 min total), a Video Diary (3min), and 2 trailers (one for Superbad, one for Walk Hard).

I have not heard about this at all....

Only the Rush Hour ticket was mentioned in this weeks ad.

Sounds like your store may have put it out a week early. Superbad is going to be super good I believe.

We do have a thread devoted to all ticket/movie cash deals now.

I'll have to do this, I hope there are other movies other than Superbad. 40 year old virgin would be sweet! Haven't picked it up yet.

Won't be 40YOV (Universal) as Superbad is a Sony title (like the OP says, as is Bad Boys) and therefore the ticket/bonus disc will be bundled with their movies and not Universal's.

I was lucky enough to get into a screening of Superbad and let me just say, it is the funniest movie I have seen in years. Nobody will be disappointed.

And the expiration date's three months off, too, nice.

How is the expiration date off by 3 months? Did you want it to expire a week ago, before the movie opened. Or 6 months after it opened?

:)

How is the expiration date off by 3 months?

He just meant that it is 3 months off in the future, giving us lots of time to use it. Some of these free ticket deals are only good for a 2-4 week window.

Found them tonight. Rang up at 11.99 and nothing we tested them with made them free. But the "lowest sale price" in the BB computer said 1 penny, so they definitely are meant to be free with some certain purchase.

Probably will be advertised in the next week's or week after that ad.

f***, so there was supposed to be a display with the bonus and tick? i got a Bad Boys with the sticker on it and thought it was inside the case. of course it wasn't. now it is opened and i have no tic. can i return this if they have no more bonus discs and tix or am i sol?

these were put out at my BB this morning on the new releases table, but it doesn't say what movies you're supposed to get it with. i brought it up to the register, and it rang up for $11.99, so of course i dumped it.

This ticket is out early, evidently it's supposed to be in the Aug 12th ad.
Keep ahold of your receipt until then, when the tix are out take them both up to the service desk and agrue your case. Shouldn't be a problem.

i actually went back. there was nothing out (displayed). the guy had no clue what it was and what it was supposed to be for. no other Bad Boys dvd's even had the little sticker.

he checked the computer (for what i have no idea). i was given the ok to get a refund. as i was about to get a refund the guy comes with a bunch of the bonus dvds and tickets. i got happy. i thanked him bc this was like a few minutes after he was gone, so he was actually still checking into it after the refund request was ok'd. (props for that as i didn't expect anymore leg work on it)

it did ring up $11.99 and they said that is how much it was...i knew there is no way a bonus dvd with free tix was to ring anything, but i figured it wasn't in the system bc it was an early deal. i waited a little bit and they finally put it through, no fuss on my part, just was patient as i knew it would work out. so i got it. not bad for a $9.99 dvd that i didn't have already.

great find j_sutton and thanks for the early buzz!!

Went thru a couple of messes to grab this at a couple different Best Buys, and think I have it all figured out. Pretty much said in earlier posts, but here is a wrap up.

The bonus disc/voucher was not supposed to be put out until the week of 8/12/07.

The bonus disc/voucher will ring up as free (after total is pressed and the package price comes up) with the purchase of select Columbia DVDs. The titles will include Bad Boys, Tears of the Sun, SLC Punk, The Big Hit, Not Another Teen Movie, and Bottom's Up (and possibly others, including Bad Boys 2 I imagine).

It rings up as 11.99 unless that package price is found, and that package is now in the BB computers.

I imagine that endcap posters, more vouchers, more DVDs with the stickers, and the ad will show up on 8/12/07.

I can confirm that SLC Punk is another movie this is good with. I found a couple copies with the sticker so I grabbed the Superbad disc and took it up. No problems at all. $9.99 for the movie and $0 for the bonus disc.

The package price is now in BB's system.

I bought two unstickered Columbia titles today, Not Another Teen Movie and SLC Punk, both own sale for 9.99, and the package price screen came up.

can't you usually just get these with any purchase?

Unless they've changed the way they do things, i have always scanned the aisles for "freebies" like movie ticket offers and hbo samplers, and just picked them up....

They have never given me any problems...

All the titles except for Dogma were 9.99, Dogma was still overpriced at 22.99, Any idea if this might get marked down come the 12th?

Has Speedy stopped all ad postings or only the CC ones?

the movies i remember seeing last night were:

"Not Another Teen Movie"
"Dogma"
"Bottoms Up"
"The Big Hit"
"Bad Boys"

i asked a guy about the ticket last night and he told me i had to call my local theater and tell them i had a free ticket then take the sticker off the package to the theater with me--said the theater would give me the bonus disk as well.....i understand this isn't supposed to be out until 8/12 but if they already have the movies on the shelves you'd think they'd make their employees aware of what's going on

Trevor
08-07-07, 01:42 PM
No offense to the retail employees here, because I know there are exceptions, but I have found that there is never really any reason to ask a BB employee a question. The chance of them knowing more than you is less than zero.

Not their fault probably, its a training thing.

Plus, even if they think they know the answer, the chance of it ringing up that way in BB's system is hit or miss.

I saw the end cap display at my Best Buy (Nashua, NH) today. It had approx. 15-20 movies that it was good with (i've seen all the ones I remember already mentioned in the thread) that ranged in price from $9.99 to $19.99. If you know you're going to see the movie, picking up one (or more) with $9.99 DVDs seems like a no brainer.

Went to Best Buy in Cary, NC this morning, and got the last Superbad bonus disc (found it laying on one of the carts). No display anywhere, so I really wasnt sure which discs went with the promo or not. Really, they did an awful job of promoting this. I started to get Not Another Teen Movie as mentioned in the thread, but they only had the unrated version, and the reviews on this site indicated the original is better, so I picked up Stranger Than Fiction and a Columbia release, which was part of the $9.99 sale, although possibly not part of this deal, as she tried to charge me $11.99 for it, and I had to point out twice the "Not For Resale" before they took it off. But they are definitely out of discs for anyone going, I went through the whole DVD section and couldnt find another one at all.

I'm sure there were more in the back. I've had to ask at a couple stores when they ran out of stock, and they brought out another pile for me.
The promotion wasn't really supposed to start until the 12th, so we shouldn't be surprised that all the endcaps, signage, bonus discs, and stickered DVDs aren't out yet.

I would be really annoyed if they didn't have more discs in the back. It would be messed up if the sell out of all their discs before the promotion even starts. And they wouldn't be meeting whatever minimum they promise if they do.

The disc does say "not for resale", so does that basically mean that Best Buy can't charge anything for it or that you can't resell it to anyone else once you get it from Best Buy? The reason that I'm asking is that besides this bonus disc, my Best Buy still has a couple of the Blu-Ray Spidey 3 bonus discs in their High def area. These also say "Not for Resale" on them. Wouldn't these be free considering the promotion is over?

No, you might be able to get them for free if you ask, but the words "not for resale" do not obligate a store to give you something.

Seriously, I'd definitely grab the Dogma dvd if it wasn't 22.99, that's insane for an eight year old movie. Why can't they just make these things free with the purchase of any dvd, like the 300 one was? And why is Dogma so much more expensive than Jay and Bob? The only real difference I can think of is Dogma has a slipcover.

It would make sense, as offers like this often include a set of qualifying titles that are sale priced. Also, Dogma has been $9.99 in the past.

But it is still $22.99 on the website at least.

Yeah, the selection isn't very good.
But $10 for a lame DVD, a bonus disc, and a (up to)$12 movie ticket isn't too bad I guess. Superbad is a must see for me.

Depends on the cashier, I received a gift one time I already owned and along with the gift I was given a "Best Buy" gift receipt. I was not given the free gift ( CR Car ) with the dvd. I tried to return the dvd but they wanted the car back aswell. I told them it was a gift and I didn't get the CR car.

They eventually just gave me a refund on a gift card, I have had some dishonest friends who have returned dvds after getting the tickets, it worked for them.

But I wouldn't talk much more of this here, This topic would probably get locked.

I bought Punch Drunk Love Superbit edition many months ago but had yet to open it. I saw the promo, made the return, got store credit for 10.81, went through the cashier line with another copy along with the Superbad disc and used my store credit. It didn't ring up free so they had to call a manager over at which point he didn't believe the promo would work so he went to the back to "verify" it and he did and I walked out scot free without dropping a dime. Thanks Best Buy!

It's too bad that Dogma isn't $9.99 online, or else I would just order it with the free Superbad ticket. As it is, I don't think I want to drive out to Best Buy just get this, and then to argue over the price, to do that.

I don't see why everyone is acting like this is a hassle. It's not. It's not a messup or anything, it is just the sale items with the free DVD are no actually in the computer as 'on sale.'

I bought Stripes:Extended Cut for 9.99 as well on Sunday with the free ticket, and had to show them Stripes was on sale as well.

They aren't arguing with you, and nor do you need a 'clueless' cashier. It's a simple computer system error, people. You aren't pulling a fast one on them or anything.

It actually was a big hassle for me-- involving Dogma, 2 cashiers, a manager, repeated references to "the other" Dogma DVD, claims that someone printed the wrong shelf tag, claims that I probably wouldn't be able to get the ticket for free if they fixed the price, and the Best Buy staff ultimately removing the tag from the shelf. Took about ten minutes at the counter in total before I got to leave with my DVD and my ticket...

Ten minutes, and 9.99, and you get:

-Dogma 2-Disc, regular 22.99
-Bonus Disc for Superbad
-FREE movie ticket to see Superbad

Still don't see why there would be a complaint. But then again, to me, what little time and money that took seems worth it for the returns. Also take into account yours was somewhat a 'worse-case scenario'.

Anyone know if the Superbad ticket is good at AMC theaters? I know they don't take "Movie Cash"

Hope that answers it. Sorry.

There is also the notion that some people just enjoy arguing (even about something as pointless as what exactly constitutes a "hassle" for no good reason) so in their case this is a win-win proposition all around!

I bought Tears Of The Sun for $9.99 and got the Superbad ticket & bonus DVD free today. But they were behind the registers. I guess I took too many free discs from them in the past.. even though I wouldn't get this one by itself anyway since it's $11.99.. :p

This is really quite simple to do. Go to that site, put your zip code in and there you go... a list of theaters which should take the movie cash.

I haven't had a problem with the ones I've used at Cinemark.

I haven't had any problems with movie cash at Cinemark as well.

I have to say that the selection annoys me. I have everything on there that I would want (including the 2-Disc Dogma).

Eh, perhaps I can do a refund later on.

my AMC only takes "Movie Cash" and now just stopped taking Hollywood Movie Money which sucks, so if i want to see it free i have to drive a few more miles.

Rush Hour's certificate said it in bold print on the tear off portion that you toss away. It is'nt on the part you redeem at the theater. I don't have Superbad yet so can't see if it is in the same location...

I went to my BB last night and they didn't have shit for Superbad tickets. Maybe I'll have to try another one to see if they're running this promo. Either way I'm going to see Superbad tonight.

Cruel Intentions was $5.99 yesterday, so I picked it up with the Superbad ticket.

Note to everyone not finding the tickets:

At some BB's, like the one I use, the Superbad ticket/dvd packs are NOT in a display anywhere in the store, despite the fact the DVD's part of the deal all have stickers that say "see store display." You may have to ask an employee to get the bonus for you.

At my store, the computer station in the multimedia station has a stack of them, and has had them there for a week now. Some friends of mine went in Saturday and we just walked up to the computer stations and grabbed ours.

As always, never assume that they don't have the tickets or any other promo.

They could be in dozens of different locations spread throughout the entire store.

And if you can't find them, just ask for them to get them out of the back. With these ticket type deals, they always have a surplus. My local BBs still have tons of movie promos that are long expired.

I was in the store picking up my online order of the "buy 5 get $20 GC back" deal and saw they still had some Superbad tickets so I got the extended cut of Stripes and got another one. (Of course, Stripes rang up $14.99 and I had to go show the clerk the shelf tag that said "$9.99", you know, the usual rigamarole, but at least now I got another $10 summer entertainment certificate coming to me before that promo ends on Saturday.)

So I picked up wild things today, since I've been waiting to get it for some time. They had the tickets and picked one up. I figured i would be able to see the movie later this week but according to hollywoodmoviemoney.com, the ticket isn't valid until september 15th. Anyone else get this?

Yeah, I couldn't resist and bought 3 copies of Cruel Intentions to get 3 more tickets. Now all my friends are going to see Superbad for free, and I have 3 things to put on ebay.

Man, I got hosed. I didn't realize I was being charged for this "bonus" disc until I read this thread... I've always just grabbed these types of things off the shelf and they've rung up free. I didn't know it was based on buying another DVD to go with it.

This way they don't have to stick the movie cash coupon in all the various DVDs that are tied into the promotion.
Also, people won't be buying DVDs months and years from now with long since expired movie cash coupons in them.
