Jesus, I think this is the third dip on this set.
Keep an eye out for misprices confusing possible close-out prices on the original set with this set. I'd pay about 20 bucks for this triple dip, but that's about it.

^ Considering they are 2-discers this time around, I'm in for at least 3 of these titles, meaning it will probably be cheaper for me to buy the whole box set. I never did buy any of these before though, as I have a fear of snappers.

Those prices for the individual movies ($21 for 2001:ASO) are kinda steep. I'm gonna wait till the fall 20% off sale that'll occur 2 weeks after the release date and grab just 2001:ASO and The Shining.

if Barry Lyndon was in there instead of ews i would already be on this

hard to believe i revere every movie in that set so thoroughly and yet detest ews so much that i simply refuse to own it.

when chicks that hot are walking around naked and i'm still bored... clearly something's rotten in Kubrickville

I'm wondering why they left out Barry Lyndon and Lolita...and on top of that, why do Kubrick collections start off in the Lolita time period and not with his earlier works? Is that because of WB associations?

Not to mention whether it's OAR or Kubrick's specifications, and uncensored EWS. I'll wait for November, but this looks good.

It's a no brainer double dip for the new anamorphic transfers... But I'm still waiting to hear about the transfers for Lolita and Barry Lyndon (as mentioned, same day re-re-re-releases and not a part of the set). There has been nothing but silence concerning anamorphic for those two.

Yeah... that thread doesn't shed any more light on the subject than this one. It's all speculation. All I'm saying is that early ad copy for sets like this is often error/omission ridden, and I'm not giving up hope yet. Anyone remember the "4-disc" Almodovar collection? Plus, if you look at the listing on Warner's own site, it lists all of the titles that you all have been talking about and then says that there are 9 discs. But the listed discs add up to 10; error number one...

I'm not yet convinced that this ad copy (no matter how many sources you check the same copy at) is 100% accurate.

If this price doesn't change too much then by the time the 20% sale comes in late Nov - early Dec, the price will be around $46.80 which would be a pretty sweet deal. I just got $26 net (after Amazon comission and shipping cost) for Clockwork and 2001 in anticiptation of this set. So I don't mind paying an extra 20 to get the other titles as well. Can't wait.

I have the 1st and the 2nd version box set, so I probably will not pre-order the new version.

I think they should include all Kubrick's films (The Killing, Paths of Glory, etc.) in one box set, if they do, I'll jump in.

Ravid
07-31-07, 10:29 PM
The Killing, Killer's Kiss, and Paths of Glory are owned by MGM. Spartacus is owned by Universal, and Dr. Strangelove is owned by Sony. So I don't see how they'd be included in a Warner Bros. box set :)

It would be nice, but they're not owned by Warners. IIRC, Killer's Kiss, The Killing, and Paths of Glory are all MGM, Spartacus is Universal, Dr. Strangelove is Sony/Columbia, and Lolita, Barry Lyndon, The Shining, 2001, Full Metal Jacket, and Eyes Wide Shut belong to Warner Bros. Fear and Desire, along with his short films are without distribution. You could always compile a complete box set yourself. It would be nice to have a uniform cover design for all the films.

A heads-up to those of you in the Pacific Northwest: the Northwest Film Center in Portland will be holding a Kubrick retrospective over the next few weeks (starting TONIGHT), with showings of several of his best works. For complete info, see NFC Kubrick retrospective (http://www.nwfilm.org/screenings/?volissue=355&series=3).

I just pre-ordered this through the Warner site using the discount code for 25% off and I ended up paying $45 for it.
Of course, in order to get that price I had to pre-order someting else, at a good price as well, to make that $50 free shipping mark.

So yea. I would say that is the way to go.

Just preordered this from DVD Empire using their $12 off $60 coupon (code: 1372720), got it for $51.78 shipped ($60.79 - $12.00 = $48.79 + $2.99 S&H = $51.78). Not a bad deal.

I ordered them all in HD DVD individually from the Warner site. You can also get the Life in Pics doc separately but only SD. My CC is showing the charge so hopefully they are shipping soon. I agree it's weird no HD or BR box. Probably would have been a substantial discount. DVDBeaver has comparisons up for 2001 and Shining. Want me some widescreen Shining.

My order from familyvideo.com says the same thing. When contacting them, this is what they said:

"Unfortunately due to some internal problems at Warner, the release date for your movie has been pushed back. We will be shipping out your movie as soon as it arrives."

After reading some other threads it appears that online retailers have had some problems with this release. Amazon.com is now saying 5 to 6 weeks until shipment. I kind of wonder if this is going to lead to some serious gouging for prices on ebay for those who managed to snag copies at Best Buy and so forth.
