I've been really getting into Man vs. Wild and (thanks to a thread here in TV Talk) Survivorman lately.

Are there any good movies with a similar theme of one (or a few) person surviving in the wilderness with almost nothing?

I'm thinking of something similar to Cast Away (which I love and watch from the plane crash to raft escape over and over).

Any reccomendations of realistic wilderness survival movies?

The Edge
I had the Edge in the back of my mind as I typed this, I just couldn't recall the name. I may have to rent it because its been about 10 years since I saw it.

In addition what's already been mentioned, I'd probably add Touching the Void and the original Flight of the Phoenix as other suggestions I could think of that loosely fit into the survival category in their distinct ways.
My wife's favorite genre is man vs nature movies and there are quite a few but most of them fall into two categories of disaster (Perfect Storm, Twister, Day After Tomorrow, etc.) or man vs. man in a nature setting (Shoot to Kill, Seraphim Falls, Cliffhanger, etc.) instead of survival in the sense you're looking for (which I'm guessing would be the middle 3/4 of The Edge since I consider that to be the prime genre example).
There just really aren't too many. I'm still searching for more myself but I'm at the point of renting even somewhat cheesy movies on the subject like Survival Quest...

You might enjoy The Snow Walker and Never Cry Wolf if you haven't seen them.

That's been playing (constantly!) on Universal HD lately. For as cheesy of a movie as it is, I've sat through it at least 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Man, I really need to get an HD DVD player.

The Mosquito Coast might fit in with what you are looking for.

How about Herzog's Aguirre, Wrath Of God? Based on a supposedly true account of a maniacal Conquistador's search for El Dorado. Well I guess even Fitzcarraldo could qualify.

I recommend Trevor Howard in one of his last roles as a Cheyenne trying to survive in the wilderness in The Wind Walker.

And then, of course, there are the Richard Harris Man Called Horse flicks of the late '70s and (duh) Man In the Wilderness.

Willie Nelson co-starred in a film around that time which wasn't bad either called Coming Out Of the Ice.

My new favorite, though, from 1997 is Ravenous. Black comedy or not, this is an offbeat, creepy, well-acted piece of celluloid.

A Far Off Place has a very young Reese Witherspoon and Ethan Embry on a trek across the Kalahari desert after their families are killed.

Shackleton, about the true story of a ship on an expedition in the Antarctic that got trapped and crushed in ice. The crew made it to an island where they had to survive for several months before being rescued.
