I just discovered yesterday that Wal Mart will be selling an exclusive 2 disc edition of HOT FUZZ.
Which is essentially the British DVD plus THE FUZZBALL RALLY DVD extra.
so i dealt with CD-WOW for a month to get the R2 2-disc and now it'll be available in the U.S. with the Fuzzball Rally feature---damn it:mad2:

I don't think Wal-Mart will pricematch one of their DVDs when it comes with a bonus disc, but then again it's always worth a try, and it's possibly you'll get someone to do it anyway.
For anyone wondering, here's (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=144582906&blogid=289952131&page=0) a link to the Edgar Wright MySpace blog.

I'm confused. I thought that the Fuzzball Rally was a standard extra on all the R1 releases. The way I took Wright's comment was to mean that you were getting all of the extras from the R2 release (which I guess implies that the normal R1 release is missing some of these) in addition to the Fuzzball Rally. The normal R1 release only has some of the R2 features plus the Fuzzball Rally.
No?

I really doubt that the Wal-mart edition will have the 4 commentaries that are on the R2.
The R1 has only 1 commentary in its standard R1 edition so unless Wal Mart gets a different Disk 1 of this set it will still be missing quite a bit.
Im just glad i finally got a Region free player and the R2 dvd recently.

I don't know... I'm very skeptical that that is the case. I suspect what's happening is you'll get the standard R1 release plus the Fuzzball Rally on a 2nd DVD making it a 2 DVD deal (not a 3 DVD deal as some seem to be implying). I could be wrong but I find it hard to believe anyone would go through the trouble of transferring the R2 to R1 version and then only releasing it at one location.

I can indeed confirm that Wal-Mart will have the bonus disc (I work in the electronics dept. overnight). I looked specifically for the disc last night. It will be a side by side jobber.
The bonus disc looks to have some interesting extras on it (and a decent amount too... not some fluffy 5 min epk's). I'll try to take a pic of it tonight... or at least notate the extras on the bonus disc.

I guess that also confirms that the first disc is the same as the normal R1 version, and that means that the other extras on the first disc of the R2 version, more commentaries and the such, aren't on the Wal-Mart exclusive set. :(

Yep, but they've been doing it that way for years. They have at least 1 title a week with an exclusive this way.
One benefit of the way WM does it is that the main title is still sealed, making it easy to ebay or re-gift. Less double-dipping for us completists.

Walmart is always YMMV. Walmarts 1 mile from each other can have drastically different prices.
But roughly, new releases are $15.87, and new releases with bundled exclusives are $19.87.
Some Walmarts apparently have the exclusives bundles at the same lower price, but I've never been that lucky.

They usually offer both on release week, and for a week (or two, or three depending on sales) after. Then they scale back to fullscreen, because it "sells better" (mostly because they give it prominent placement on top of the shelves and send more copies of it, so people who wouldn't give a crap grab FS regardless, and WS disappears quickly)

The last time Walmart had an exclusive bonus disc I wanted packaged with the fullscreen version I took it home and separated the two (being careful not to break the seal on the movie disc), held onto the bonus disc, and took the movie back to the store to exchange it for widescreen. This only works if the cases are individually sealed within the 2-pack, but they usually are.
I already have the UK set, though, so I won't have to bother with that dance this time.

Universal, this is totally lame. How many people that are huge fans of this movie would want it in full screen? And why strike an exclusive deal with a company that is going to put TWO COPIES OF IT IN THE STORE? What a waste of time for fans trying to track this down.

They start putting the new releases out at Midnight. I had to wait until they wheeled out a giant display for "300" and helped the customers waiting to buy that...and then they went through the other boxes of stuff for me. They had WS copies of the single disc version, but not of the exclusive 2-disc set. i was surprised at how bustling the place was. just got back from 24hr wal-mart in glendora, ca. i don't usually go on tuesdays, so i dunno if it was because 300 was being released or if it's like this every new release tues, but there were LOTS of shoppers. dvd section had quite a few ppl browsing. most were picking up 300, but i saw some ppl with hot fuzz and others with a bratz movie. the majority were young people (there is a college semi-nearby so that might account for it... bored w/ nothing to do in the dorms?) but there were also families too. because of this, the checkout lines were actually kinda long since they only had 3 cashiers.
anywho, i picked up the 2-disc in WS (woohoo!) and was surprised to see that there were 11 two-packs in FS (yes, i counted) and that there were 17 (including mine and another shopper's) in WS. didn't expect WS to outnumber FSm but i'm glad it did. everything was already moved out from the boxes. they had assembled the large cardboard cut-out so no need to scavenge through unopened shipments or whatnot, which was great since it was only 12:30ish. i thought i'd have to wait for them to unpack everything.

Checked two Wal-Marts in Eugene, OR and could only find FS two-packs. I checked all around the DVD sections and the stand-ups near the registers. The barcode on the shelf designated FS. The FS movie case also had the UPC code covered with a blank sticker, making it unlikely that I could exchange the FS for a WS.
For those that found a WS two-pack, did they have separate shelf spaces or mixed with FS?

Glad to see some of the other Wally Worlds got the WS 2 pack.
When I put the DVD's out tonight, we only got 10 of the FS 2 packs and NO WS. We had plenty of FS and WS single discs, but our area has nothing but FS lovers around it.
We also didn't get a cardboard display for Hot Fuzz, just 300 Firehouse Dogs and Pathfinder.

They did not elaborate on what was included on the bonus disc.

It just seems the crowd that this movie is really for (that will laugh at the action-style editing, camera angles, etc.) would want widescreen versions, and the demographic that Wal-Mart is using this 2-disc deal for (casual moviegoers who like fullscreen because widescreen "chops off the picture") are two completely different crowds.
It just doesn't make sense why they wouldn't offer more widescreen versions. I don't know anybody (save my parents who have watched movies that have taken up the entire screen their whole lives) that prefers FS to WS. It just seems counterproductive for Wal-Mart to do this.

I found it at the second Wal-Mart I went to (By Potomac Mills mall). On the shelf they only had Full Screen copies, but just as I turned around to leave a guy pushed a huge Hot Fuzz display behind me with plenty of Widescreen copies. Price was $19.96 and for those of you contemplating buying Full Screen and doing a switcheroo the DVD is sealed by itself. The bonus disc isn't sealed but the actual movie is. It has a white sticker over the barcode (and the plastic, it's not on the inside), but it peels off very easily.

The two pack with WS does exist, I've seen it with my own eyes at my Walmart. Unfortunately, I'm not one for bonus discs (especially those in their own case, I value space on my shelves more), and I had already picked up Hot Fuzz earlier at Best Buy.
But it does exist! Should I perhaps go buy it, and return my copy to BB? Is it worth it?

WM in Union CIty has about 20 copies of WS 2 pack and 40+ for FS 2 pack. At first I coudlnt find the WS copies and i asked and they said they only had FS packs. The WS ones were on the standup in the center of the store on the bottom. GLad to see they had more than a few copies, i started to get really pissed and was going to rip off the FS copy and put a WS one with it and act like it was that way on the shelf. It was $19.99 for the 2 pack here.

Does anyone know if there is any chance of the Wal-Mart website getting these 2-disc exclusives up? Because I just went to my local Wal-Mart and, of course, they only had 5 full screen versions. The little tag on the shelf even said something like "Hot Fuzz Exclusive FS" and let me tell you, there wasn't a tag anywhere in sight that said "Hot Fuzz Exclusive WS." So, I bought the single disc, but before I open it I'd like to know if I have a shot at getting the exclusive.

If you combine the R1 disc with the Wal-Mart disc, you'll have everything found on the R2 set EXCEPT three commentary tracks BUT you'll get the Fuzzball Rally featurette.

I called around to 4 different Walmarts in my area, and one had them. She first had the regular one for 16.97 and I said, no, that's not it, it has an extra disc. She was gone a LONG time then came back and said that they just wheeled out the display and they did have it in widescreen. I went out there and didn't see them so I asked and he told me about the display HIDDEN in the back of an aisle. They had about 20 or so in Widescreen so I picked it up. Alternatively, anyone in southeastern or northeastern PA know any stores that have it? I checked East Norristown and West Norristown because they're closest to me, not because I expected much from these typically lousy locations, and they had no Hot Fuzz displays and less than 3 FS 2-packs at each.

The confirmed extras of the HD DVD. This is the one I'm buying.
* Audio Commentary with Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright: The Co-Writers sit down and chat with us in this feature-length commentary. Boy oh boy was this one enjoyable. Both Pegg and Wright have a high level of wit that is clearly shown here. Pegg and Wright speak on the homage to Bad Boys II and Point Break as well as the cast and sets.
* Audio Commentary with the Sanford Police Service: Participants include Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright, Jim Broadbent, Rafe Speall, Kevin Eldon and Olivia Colman. This one, as well as the following commentary, kind of served as a good vs. evil commentary. Here you had the good side of the law speaking, almost in character it seemed, about their talents and what it was like making the film.
* Audio Commentary with the Village People: Participants include Kenneth Cranham, Timothy Dalton, Paul Freeman and Edward Woodword. As I mentioned above, this one kind of serves as the evil commentary, which adds a funny twist to the commentary. I found myself enjoying the comments made here a tad bit more, mostly because of the humor and talent of Mr. Dalton.
* Real-Fuzz Commentary with Andy Leafe and Nick Eckland: With my fourth time through the film, I’ll be completely honest and mention that I didn’t get completely through this one. The comments I did here by the two real-life officers served as more of a factual commentary more than a humor commentary. I suppose this one is necessary for the die-hard fans, but I suppose I was a bit turned off by it after watching three funny commentaries.
* Theatrical Trailer: Here the film’s trailer is shown.
* Outtakes: Here we get a few funny outtakes.
* The Man Who Would Be Fuzz: A funny homage to Sean Connery and Michael Caine as Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play the two characters from an obvious film.
* Hot Funk (TV Version): This one runs as a “clean” dialogue feature with a few clips from the TV version of the film.
* Danny’s Notebook: The Other Side: This one shows us the ideas and themes that Danny had (Danny is the character played by Nick Frost).
* Fuzz-O-Meter: This one basically runs like a trivia track throughout the course of the film giving us information about the film and the making.
* Storyboards: Here storyboards are presented for all 27 chapters of the film.
* Evidence Room: Deleted Scenes: Here we get 22 deleted scenes that run about 20 minutes in length. Just like the film, a majority of the scenes are absolutely hilarious with constant laughs and smiles.
* Making Of: Conclusive: Here we get the film’s making of, which was a great watch. Even though the standard stuff is dealt with, it felt like something more, quite possibly because of the enjoyment of the film.
* Speculative: Video Blogs: Including here are 13 different mini features that chronicle the making of via interviews from the sets during periods of the film.
* Forensic: Featurettes: Here we get 3 different features; the first being Return to Sanford, which shows us the real town of Wells that stood in for Sandford in the film. The second feature, entitled Edgar & Simon’s Flip Chart shows them reading a flip chart of the town so we can see how much of the chart made it into the final product. The final feature, entitled Simon Muggs is sort of like more outtakes with Simon Pegg laughing after each take.
* Galleries: Here we get a variety of photo, poster and basic promotional kits used for the film.
* Heresay: Plot Holes/Comparisons: This one is broken down into two separate areas. One for Plot Holes and one for the film’s special effects with the Special Effects looking at 8 different sequences with a before-and-after look at each sequence.
* Falsified: Dead Right: This one runs 10 minutes and is entitled “Edgar’s 1st Cop Movie”. Optional commentary is available for Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright
* Easter Egg: Fence Jump: A little Easter Egg here with a few takes of the hilarious fence jump clip.

All this talk about complaints about people who want fool screen reminded me of when I was at Wal-Mart a few months back. The lady goes up to the video clerk and asks for a movie in HD-DVD and wanted it in Full Screen?!?

There were only "fool screen" sets here in Woodhaven, Michigan for $20, but that didn't stop me from getting it. I just took the set outside after it was purchased, peeled the bar code sticker for the set off of the shrinkwrap and stuck it on the back of the shrinkwrapped "fool screen" case over the existing bar code.
I then brought the "fool screen" version back in the store with receipt and explained how it was purchased by mistake and that I really wanted the widescreen edition. The nice customer service lady said it was fine and told me to go grab the one I wanted. She then refunded me the $20 for the set and charged me $17 for the widescreen movie only version. So, I ended up with the two disc set for $17.
I feel a little bad for getting away with this, but I was disgusted with this set being nearly impossible to find with the widescreen movie and I did what I had to do. Also, I never intended to get it three dollars cheaper, but I couldn't exactly explain to the lady why I shouldn't be getting it for less. Oh well...I'm happy now to have the set.

I can indeed confirm that Wal-Mart will have the bonus disc (I work in the electronics dept. overnight). I looked specifically for the disc last night. It will be a side by side jobber.
Even though I'm only on page 2, I'll ask anyway: Is this with FOOLSCREEN only? I went to two Walmarts. One had nothing and the salesclerk looked at me like I was from outer space. The other one had them, but only in fullscreen. I asked her if she could look it up...apparently there's no need to keep inventory at Walmart?

So ... has anyone been able to find this at Wal*Mart in Canada? Not sure if you already checked or not, but I bought up the 2-pack in Canada earlier today. They were on the top shelf of a display for all sorts of 'newer' releases, and had to stretch to grab it. There were about 4-5 copies that I saw, and all were in Widescreen (thankfully). I went there hoping to find one too, since the one store I called only claimed there was a 1-disc copy, and after numerous calls between 10:30 and 1, the other store had still not taken any copies of Hot Fuzz out of their shipment boxes (although I was told there were thousands of copies of 300 all around the store).
I got it at $27.83. It only was wrapped in the shrinkwrap on the outside, both discs were just stickied together, and did not have any wrap on the inside at all.
And what's up with the spine for the bonus disc?

I see my question has been answered, having gone through the rest of the thread....seems like if you try five or six stores, you might actually find a WS version.
I'm considering the HD-DVD one, but I don't have a player and don't know how long it will be before I obtain one....
I'd call the other Walmarts in the area, but from my experience they wouldn't be able to look it up on a computer and therefore I'd be forced to hoping that the salesclerk would make a genuine effort and not just look in one spot (if at all) and then say "nope don't have it."

I'm really mad at Rogue for not releasing the R2 version over here. I guess it's just Universal trying to shove HDDVD down our throats. I'm glad that I was able to get the bonus disc, but I really wish that they would have put all of the commentaries on the movie disc.

Am getting to the bottom of the Wal Mart conspiracy. Apparently there are Widescreen versions of the 2pak, but Wal Mart order 65 percent fullscreen editions.
Hopefully the WS version will show up on their website.
Have been on the case with Universal so will let you know.
I stopped by the WM in Poway and only found the fullscreen version of the 2-disc. I tried to ask the employee nearby but she wasn't helpful. I ended up at a different WM (Aero Dr) and found multiple copies of both types though and picked up a copy.

I will be checking my walmarts later today for the widescreen. I must say that I am annoyed with Universal for putting all the bonus content on the HD-DVD and not the DVD. Show some respect for your customer base especially the majority that own DVD players. Sure, you'll make a few HD-DVD fans happy, but at the expense of making the majority of DVD ones unhappy. Bad business plan. This doesn't make me want to run out and buy an HD-DVD player, either.

I tried a second Walmart and struck out. At this one the employees were more helpful, but they still wouldn't let me swap out the disc for a widescreen. The woman who was helping me pointed out that it was strange that they'd only have a fullscreen version, but then she pointed out something even more odd - All of their 300/Alexander two packs contained the widescreen version of the former and the fullscreen version of the latter. The two-pack which appeals to nobody. At least the employees were aware of the absurdity.

Went to 3 Walmarts (Vacaville, Dixon, and Fairfield), I struck out at all three. I ended up buying the full screen pack and returning the movie without a receipt for widescreen. This, as far as I understand is perfectly legal. Walmart has a fairly laxed return policy, as long as it's shrink wrapped they can still sell it. Maybe this fiasco will encourage them to realize there is a bigger widescreen fan base then they expected.
One thing I noticed in the different Walmarts is how much full screen gets promoted vs. the wide. They put the full above the wide, the full is more accessible and there's no information provided as to the difference. I with widescreen TV's getting so affordable, you would think they would want to help people understand the investment. Unless they want them to comeback and re-purchase all of their titles.
Either way, Hot Fuzz looks really good with my autographed Comic Con sleeve in my 2-disc amaray case.

I'd like to thank you for saving me the trip to the Orange Store. Instead, I made my way to the Brea store (Imperial and Kramer), where they had plenty of copies of the widescreen 2-pack near the entrance in a big Hot Fuzz display, and more in the DVD section in the back. They did also have FS copies, so be careful.
The Brea store is really the best Wal*Mart in Orange County, I never fail in finding what I'm looking for there, and they are consistently lower in price when it comes to new release DVD's (Hot Fuzz and 300 singles were $13.99, I'm sure the Orange store was $16.87)

I'm curious about this too, seeing as my Wal-Mart had WS outnumber the FS for the two-packs. I'm under the assumption that its based on some sort of sales tracker? Perhaps in my area, WS sells more than FS which is why they ordered both but ordered more WS. As for other areas, perhaps their stores track more FS sales which is why they ordered mostly or only FS two-packs.
I know that this is somewhat the case with my local Best Buy. It's the largest store size-wise in the area, so when there are Wii launches or exclusives like the 300 helmet, my store gets many more copies of these items than other smaller BBs in the district. Not sure if there is a method to the madness, so I can only assume...

seconded! the Brea WM is the only store i've been to that actually had their dump bin cleanly organized. plus, their electronics department is well-stocked and everything is clearly marked. plus, there's plenty of space for new release displays unlike other stores where everything is bunched together. cleaner than most wal-marts too.

i suppose you could argue either way for the "swap-a-rooney" that people have been taking part in. i don't totally see the harm in what they're doing. it's not like they're stealing from the store, like some people taking the "free" movie tickets at best buy or whatnot. they technically bought a movie (hot fuzz) and they are evenly exchanging it out for a movie (hot fuzz). the aspect ratio just happens to be different. but the # of movies wal-mart is stocking is the same. the pricing is the same. and wal-mart doesn't seem to mind having a bunch of FS, so what's one more?
it would have been SO MUCH easier if they just didn't bundle the two items together. just have the movie by itself either FS or WS, have a stack of the bonus discs, and then let the customer choose the format they want, grab the bonus disc, and be on their way instead of looking for ways to return/exchange the FS movie. granted, the pricing would be another issue... unless they just gave the bonus discs away free (wouldn't that be nice)!
it's not particularly fair to have FS shoved down our throats because we want the bonus features. had they ONLY had FS for the two-packs, it'd be a different story. you want the bonus disc, you have to get FS. but why shouldn't the customer be able to get the WS they prefer just because the store didn't order WS copies or over-ordered FS? and also, the movies themselves are sealed under the two-pack... so wal-mart is just opening themselves up to this... if there was only once piece of shrinkwrap covering both discs, there would be no issue here.

Normally, I'm sensitive to some of the "deals" listed here that require an extra step that isn't ethical, but I fail to see how returning a movie you paid for and exchanging it for the same movie is being a "swindler." That's a bit melodramatic. I've accidentally bought full screen movies and returned them unopened for either a refund or the widescreen edition.

I initially bought the 2-for-$20 deal @ BB w/ Shaun, then after reading about the specs on the Wal-mart disc I bought a copy (FF, unfortunately) later in the day. Then I simply returned the unopened FF copy back to BB with Shaun (since I already had it, just thought a spare for $2 was a great deal) and the cashier gave me a refund. I made a 2-disc set with a blank amaray and cut the back off the Wal-mart disc for use as an insert. Viola!

I bought the fool screen 2-pack as it was the only version of the 2-pack available so I'll have to go back to Wal-Mart tomorrow & exchange it. I see nothing wrong with that. You aren't stealing from wal-mart in any way. You paid for the dvd and you just want an identical dvd with a different aspect ratio. You just have to say, 'I bought this here the other day but wanted a widescreen version, can I exchange it?' seems like it would be that simple at least. It's not like you're buying the 2-pack, taking the movie back & keeping the bonus disc for free. You're getting everything you paid for.
I'm not saying its the most ethical thing to do, but Wal-Mart's return policy on dvds is that they have to be sealed/unopened. Is the movie still sealed? yes it is.
I also don't see why they even make fullscreen dvds at this point. Like it has been said, widescreen tvs are becoming more and more affordable, plus dont most dvd players have zoom features so you wont see the "annoying black bars"? Or don't you think that they could make it a standard for all dvd players to have some sort of zoom features so people could watch it in fullscreen if desired? Just my two cents.

I had wrote down WS, but they were so excited to have found one had gone to two previous stores, they just picked it up without looking. I said to return it as I refuse to have a fullscreen dvd so back to Wal-Mart it went, and at the customer service desk, explained the situation about wanting the bonus disc with the widescreen movie, the guy ripped the package open, gave the bonus disc and said to go get a widescreen one. I'm happy now! :)

Went to 5 WalMarts in the St Louis area. Only two of them had the two packs. One had one, one had four, all full screen. I'll continue the search tomorrow. One clerk told me they might get some more in on Friday.
Hey Doc, assuming you mean St. Louis, MO, mind sharing which stores had them? I went to two so far, and both had no two-packs. They were the St. Charles Rock Rd. store, and the Kirkwood store. Thanks...

I'm going down to a US Walmart from Canada tomorrow and would be pissed if they only had the FS version.. So how does this swap work? Would they give you store credit at the customer service does if you say you lost the receipt? Then go back to the DVD section and by the WS?

I made a 2-disc set with a blank amaray and cut the back off the Wal-mart disc for use as an insert. Viola!
You are killing me! You cut your cover!?!? To make an insert?
I'll leave mine as is unless I can find a two-disc clear amaray and then I'll just put the cover of the bonus disc facing in. That way I get to see it, but I don't ruin it.
I've got some non-region 1 discs that do some cool things with clear keepcases and two-sided artwork.

i think it's funny that with virtually no widescreen 2-packs around, most of the extras in the bonus disc are in 16:9.

That's a really, really cool idea. Anyone have a 2-disc clear amaray to sell, or know a place online that sells them individually (don't really need them in bulk)?

Hey Jim,
I went to Fenton, Kirkwood, Balwin, Arnold and Telegraph Rd. Arnold was the one that had 4 full screen packs, Telegraph Rd had 1. Looks like you've saved me a trip to the St Charles Rock Rd Store.

I had a family member try to find me one, and after going to two Wal-Marts then having the second call the third, they had one left so they went and picked it up, only to end up buying me the fullscreen version. :)

Yea, I don't need a huge white spine that says "WAL-MART BONUS DISC" sitting next to Hot Fuzz on my shelf. It doesn't even say Hot Fuzz on the spine. The back made a nice insert and the little cover pic below the obnoxiously large Wal-mart banner makes a nice poster for my brain-draining cubicle at work.

if you happen to cross the river, the WM in fairview heights had at least one more WS set (in the display towards the front).

The Walmart on the other side of the city had only WS 2packs. Glad to get one but the randomness of the availability is unbelievable. The bonus disc is embarrassing on the end, hopefully I can get a double case to move it into.
