R. Kelly Heads Back In The 'Closet' On New DVD

This is the best music news in the history of recorded civilization:

R. Kelly is revisiting his short film series "Trapped in the Closet," two years after the original became a cultural flashpoint. Ten new installments of the saga will be released on DVD Aug. 21 via Jive.

The Independent Film Channel has come aboard as a partner in the new release. IFC will air all 12 of the original episodes in the weeks prior to the DVD and will also stream the entire 22-installment series on its Web site. It is unknown when the 10 newest chapters will be broadcast.

The new round of "Trapped" videos finds Kelly portraying an old man named Randolph, complete with a pot belly and a fake white beard that nearly falls off mid-scene, as well as a preacher in a gray Jheri-curl wig and garish orange suit. In one of the final chapters, Kelly's Sylvester character talks business with a "Sopranos"-esque mobster who is eating a giant plate of spaghetti.

The first "Trapped in the Closet" DVD has sold 233,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Kelly is also in the midst of promoting his most recent Jive album, "Double Up," the latest single from which is a remix of "Same Girl" featuring Usher and T-Pain.

That stuff was ridiculous to me. It would be nice if he did one of these in which he doesn't feed into all the stereotypes.

Then we drive to the drive-thru
Heading off to the drive-thru
We're approaching the drive-thru
Getting close to the drive-thru!

Almost there at the drive-thru
Now we're here at the drive thru
Here in line at the drive-thru
Did I mention the drive-thru?

Watched "Trapped in the Closet" for the first time last night. Not really into rap, had never heard anything by Kelly, but saw it was on IFC and the years of hype intrigued me enough to DVR it.

I surprised myself by really enjoying it. It got a little old as it went on, but I was impressed by a few of the lyrical turns. It was hard to stop watching once it started, watched all 22 parts in one sitting. Don't think I ever buy the DVDs, but I'll browse for the future sequel parts if they happen.

Now I'm listening to Weird Al's parody on youtube and loving it as well. Maybe it's because I only listen to him about once a year, but I think its amazing that Weird Al is still entertaining me after what, 20 some years?

I avoid boring, sappy R&B so I actually have never seen the original video of this song. The new clip came on recently (maybe "The Soup"?) and I asked my wife if that was a joke. Good god that was tough to watch.
