Here's a basic list, not including titles that are a comparable price day in day out at DD and the like, or titles that go on sale a lot (Sin City, Corpse Bride, Pulp Fiction SE)

There are actually probably 200 titles, but, again, most of them are about that price (or less) usually. These are the ones of extreme note (normally $19+ on DD, amazon, etc):

Bin-Jip (aka 3-Iron) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0423866/) (not a HUGE difference, is 14.xx at amazon and DD)
Belle Époque (http://imdb.com/title/tt0103791/)
Pane e Tulipani (aka Bread and Tulips) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0237539/)
La Cité des Enfants Perdus (aka The City of Lost Children) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0112682/) -- Jean-Pierre Jeunet film with Ron Perlman
Jing Ke Ci Qin Wang (aka The Emperor & the Assassin) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0065777/)
Atanarjuat (aka The Fast Runner) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0285441/)
Il Giardino dei Finzi-Contini (aka The Garden of the Finzi-Continis) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0065777/) -- 1971 best foreign language oscar
Le Grand Bleu (aka The Big Blue) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0095250/) -- Luc Besson's first English film.
À la Folie... Pas Du Tout (aka He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0291579/) -- Audrey Tatou (Amélie)
Kikujirô no Natsu (aka Kikujiro--what, not the Spring of Kiku...ok, yeah nevermind, I see why they didn't decide on a literal translation) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0199683/) -- Takeshi "Beat" Kitano
Nicholas & Alexandra (http://imdb.com/title/tt0067483/)
Nueve Reinas (aka Nine Queens) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0247586/)
Der Krieger und die Kaiserin (aka The Princess & the Warrior) (http://imdb.com/title/tt0203632/) -- a film from Tom Tykwer (director of Run Lola Run)
Wilde (http://imdb.com/title/tt0120514/) -- Stephen Fry as Oscar Wilde, Orlando Bloom's debut

(City of God would be another foreign one included, but is a lesser deal)

Damn. That's quite the list. Princess and the Warrior and Nine Queens have jumped on my "next time at Borders" list. If I hadn't already snatched up Bin-Jip, I'd grab that one with something else as well.

www.bordersstores.com (as I'm sure you already know) is the site to check a specific store's inventory and, I believe, will also show you if a product is on sale or not. So, you should be able to find out if a specific title you're eyeing is a) in stock at your local Borders and, if so, b) whether it's on sale or not.

2 for 22 deals are not considered a sale price. It's sort of a pseudo-glitch in the charts we get for sale pricing. These items are listed with a sale price of "N/A" because it's not a *price*--so I don't think our site will list it. EDIT: it doesn't. I didn't think so.

And for the record, this is not YMMV. They may sell out, or may accidentally not be sent a title or two, but these should go to all stores. The charts I copied the titles from are sent to ALL stores (but again, subject to availability--but as you established, you should get a ROUGH idea from that site!)

And sorry--no online, chris. Check if someone on here might pick em up for you!

Also, this deal is not like Circuit City. Single titles are regular price. You *NEED* to get 2 to get the $22 total.

It should also be noted:
There is no guarantee on how long this will last.

It should last through Monday at the least, possibly longer, but they occasionally pull the more valuable titles out quicker. I'd advise getting them this week if you plan on getting them.

I went to my local Borders tonight and they had maybe 2-3 dozen titles marked "2 for $22". None of the titles on the list were marked.

Will a Borders employee be able to tell me if a certain movie qualifies or not? I don't want to run into a "If it's not marked on sale it isn't..." sort of thing.

I've been waiting on some kind of deal on "He Loves Me , He Loves Me Not" for quite a while now.

I've been waiting on some kind of deal on "He Loves Me , He Loves Me Not" for quite a while now.

It should be noted that these being the more obscure titles from the list, they are some of the most likely not to have been stickered, but this deal goes through in the computer, so there should be no issues with unstickered titles not being on sale. Also, there are a few titles I didn't get onto the table myself. Admittedly mostly the exercise ones (Biggest Loser Workout V1 & 2, etc)...but someone else might also think the foreign stuff wasn't worth the trouble to dig out.
Also, often some employees just put the stuff they send *specifically for* the displays out, without checking for the other titles listed to see if they're on the shelves and can be stickered and placed on the table.

They also don't expect much of titles like these, so they tend not to send a whole awful lot. We got only 2 copies of a number of these--if that. Belle Époque, for instance, we have one copy of, The Big Blue we have two copies of...and so on.

If you aren't sure, they can check if a movie qualifies from the same charts I used to type this (OK, actually, I arranged it by original list price for the list I used, once I noticed some titles normally 19-25.99 were on it, then just printed those higher priced ones). Generally I know my staff'd prefer not to just be asked about random movies though, as that's really quite time consuming to check through, considering the sheer volume.

Is it possible for you to post the full list?
I might be able to, but it's really quite long. I'll look into it today.

FWIW, I recognize most of the posted titles as DVDs that have been available used at Hollywood Video for substantially less (that's where I purchased them over the last few years). Being obscure, they are usually in pristine condition.

Is the City of Lost Children the SE or original issue?

I went into a Borders yesterday, actually, to see about buying Monster Squad with a 30% off coupon. The online inventory check said it was instock. When I got to the store, the computer check said "Likely Instore". When did this become a status? It WASN'T on the shelf, and an employee who didn't bother looking said, "yeah, we can order it for you." After I went home empty handed, I checked online again, and it still said "instore" or "available", but not "likely instore". Anyway, I was pissed.

Realtime inventory updates for online websites are almost impossible. That's why it says "likely instore"
They probably got 1-2 copies of MS, because apparently NO ONE realized how popular this film was (except perhaps Lion's Gate themselves) and EVERY store (meaning all chains period) under-ordered--seems to be selling out EVERYWHERE, and most stores, even BBs and the like, only got 4 copies max.

-->And it's the SE of City of Lost Children.

I have 5 border bucks, can I use that in conjunction with this offer?
Yes! Those can be used on anything short of gift cards.

"Yes" is the term I was looking for that is used on the online inventory search, and it still says it today. Maybe someone just hid it in the store. I just thought that maybe the instore search computers were more accurate since they were using different terminology like "likely instore". Anyway, thanks for the info.

Fangs, sorry to change the subject, but I've got a burning Borders question:

I stopped by my local Borders tonight to see how may copies of Popeye the Sailor: Vol 1 (BINC: 8954189) they would be receiving next Tuesday. To my shock, they showed that they were receiving ZERO, NADA, ZIP! How can that be? Probably one of the most anticipated animated releases this year and they aren't going to carry it?

They obviously can order it for me, but I wanted to get it on 7/31 in order to use my expiring Borders Bucks. Any chance it will magically show up on Tuesday?

If they don't list it as on order even at this point, highly unlikely. If they ordered it for you, there's a CHANCE you could see it come in.
Unfortunately, the buyers do not always expect traffic for releases that are highly anticipated within niche markets but NOT overall. Which is kind of silly, since we tend--at least in my store--to cater pretty *exclusively* to the niche markets...
Anyway, again, if they don't list it as on order--let alone in transit--I'd say your chances are somewhere between slim and none.

Thank you FangsFirst. I picked up four movies this evening:

Kikujiro
Nine Queens
The Fast Runner
3-Iron

I'd never have thought of getting the first 2 titles except for seeing them in the store.

At the store I went to, the DVDs had "2 for $22" stickers and were displayed on a separate rack far away from the DVD area, closer to the Music section. I found a few of the titles on the "Foreign Film" shelves also, but they didn't have the "2 for 22" tags. I wasn't sure that they were discounted and almost left the store empty handed, until I found the other movie rack where they kept these DVDs.

Yeah, they're supposed to be on a funky lookin' table known as a "Speedtable"--but the ones in section that aren't stickered should work just fine too.

Shouldn't be--though I'm not working today, so I guess they MIGHT have pulled them early.

This was a full-fledged Borders, right?
Not an express or an airport store or anything....?

Could be a "limited DVD placement" store...I'm not 100% sure if those stores are doing this sale. I think they are though.

The prices should come up automatically once two titles are scanned though.

Wait, so you were trying to get the sale price on a SINGLE movie? That would be why they did that...it DOES say "2 for $22" on the stickers and signs...if you'd brought in a receipt for the original transaction and had an uneven number then, shouldn't have been a problem...They'd return one, then resell it with the new one you were getting, voila! problem solved. That's how I do such things, anyway, if it fits the deal just fine, I'm ok with it, and that would. But trying to get it on a single title is sort of odd...if I'm understanding you correctly.

Anyway, if the sale is still going on, I'd love a corporate phone # to call to give them my two cents. Is there such a number?
Honestly, not sure. Doesn't really ever come up for us...except a creepy guy who followed people around the store who wanted to talk to our DM after we told him to stop :P
https://www.bordersstores.com/care/care.jsp?page=7 though.

But, if I'm understanding you correctly and you were trying to get a single movie for $11, I don't think there's much to be said, since that's not what the sale is...but there's the number all the same.
Honestly, the previously mentioned "once you buy 2, you can get any number more, not necessarily even" thing is a glitch to the best of my knowledge, They do it about half the time they do these sales, I thought I noticed it when I made my purchase...I've noticed it present with CDs, then the next time it was gone. But they occasionally do things like that without saying and MEAN to...so who knows?

I (obviously) knew the titles she'd grabbed were on there (did worry I'd accidentally added 12 Angry Men when I was supposed to be taking it off, as I did do that with one title I forget, but I just double-checked my copy of the charts, and they're on there) so I just modified it manually.

Sheesh tho, should've checked the charts (the person who harassed you). They're all listed right in there...

You know, golf86 and to anyone else, you could have gotten 5 DVDs for $45 plus tax by using the $10 off $50 coupon. If you purchase more than two, you do not need to purchase in multiples of two.

Tried this - they told me no other coupons could be used.

Tried this - they told me no other coupons could be used.

My cashier said that because the %-off coupons can't be used with sale prices. I had him read the fine print on the $10-off coupon and he proceeded to scan it just fine.

This is the flaw when a store hires people who don't think very hard. I train my people to READ the coupons.
Not that they always remember (or listen in the first place...).

But, that's very true--I used one such coupon myself.

Yup - I used the $10 off coupon with the 2/$22 promotion no problem. And thanks much FangsFirst for posting the list of sale titles!

I picked up The Garden Of The Finzi-Continis and Belle Epoque today at the Kips Bay NYC location. They were in the foreign film section without the 2/$22 stickers but scanned at the sale price. There were 2 more of the Finzis left but no more of the Belle.

I picked up City of Lost Children, The Fast Runner, The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, and The Princess and the Warrior. I passed on Nine Queens, Belle Epogue and a few others. For those in the Orlando area, this was the Borders in Altamonte Springs.

A few titles changed, but not the ones I listed in the first post.

Some added, some dropped. I only know Batman Begins offhand, since it was moved to a sale price to relate to the release of 300 (as both are comic book-based movies...even if only one of them is any good or spiritually accurate)

I accessed the list at the store's terminal to refresh my memory of titles and saw that the sale "officially" lasts through Aug. 20th.

Yeh, like I said, SHOULD be about a month, but they've ended them early before

I picked up The City of Lost Children, Belle Epoque, The Garden of the Finzi-Continis, The Big Blue, and Nicholas and Alexandra and used the $10 off coupon.

I discovered Nicholas and Alexandra wasn't anamorphic so I went back to exchange it for Wilde. The cashier said that I'd have to pay an extra two bucks cuz Wilde had a higher pricetag. The manager said they're both 2 for $22 so it'd be an even exchange but couldn't make the register ring up the return correctly. The cashier insisted he was right and, since I wasn't exchanging two DVDs, they wouldn't end up being $11 each. So he started to process the exchange his way- give me $23.99 (+ tax) for Nicholas and Alexandra then have me buy Wilde for $25.99. Too bad the manager was there- I was so annoyed, I would've let him hand me $23.99 and left it at that. :D

You could've easily just returned 2 titles and then re-bought the one over again.

Note to self: don't trust DVDspot.

Oh well, this gives me an excuse to buy another title to go along with it.

That would've involved going home to get one of the other titles. :)

Not necessarily. You could have had them ring one of the other titles up as being returned and re-bought, but with you not actually taking it.

I've done that before, but it requires employees that can think logically.

That's what the manager eventually did.
