Just closed my first account. I had 4 accounts at 2 different addresses and I just closed my first one tonight. I got an email saying that it'll take 3-4 business days for them to close the account. Once that's done, should I wait before opening another account with the same address? FWIW, different addresses aren't a problem for me at all. Since I'm in college, I move every year anyway. :)

You don't have to wait. If BMG doesn't want you to have an account after trying to join again so soon, then they just won't approve your account, and you can try again later.

You have by your own admission 4 accounts open, yet you're worried about a blacklist? 4 days won't get you on the blacklist, but 4 accounts is a good start.

Not sure of the expiration date on these but since they are July codes, I would not expect them to last long.

Doctor X - Wouldn't it be easier to edit the first post with new codes and delete the old ones that don't work so we can find them without looking through a bunch of posts? Either way I want to pass along a big thanks for your time in doing this. Maybe also add BMG's phone number in first post - 1(317)692-9200

Your money would be better spent hunting down the Rhino 2-disc versions. Some of the bonus discs are better than the albums they accompany. Every one I've heard has been excellent. They're not hard to find and they're not that expensive. Might want to get 'em while you still have the chance.

Thanks for the heads-up. I assumed that these were the Rykodisc versions. Oh well, I already own most of the Rykodisc versions already-I just need to pick up two of his weaker efforts(IMO of course, but still very good albums)-Goodbye Cruel World and Punch the Clock.

All (?) of the new E.C.'s that just showed up on BMG are from Hip-O (Universal.)
Ryko did special editions. Then a few years ago, Rhino did them again. Then last year Hip-O started doing one disc versions that match the running orders of the original US albums.

There's a ton of info out there (try www.stevehoffman.tv/forums) and the general consensus is that the Rhino versions are the way to go, both for bonus material and for sound quality. YMMV (but I doubt it :) .)

The thread wouldn't get bumped if the first post is edited. Besides, it is not that hard to find the latest codes if you work your way backwards.

08-01-07, 02:26 PM
I actually prefer this format. New codes only last a few days, and they don't expire on the same day. It's an editing nightmare to remove each expired code only, leaving the codes still in effect.

ec461
08-01-07, 04:45 PM
Yeah, I like the way it is now too - i.e. posting codes in a new post. It gives me an incentive to keep up with the whole thread and read other members' posts.

Josh-da-man
08-02-07, 04:28 AM
I prefer the curent format as well.

With threads like this, that are constantly being updated with new information, I find it much easier to just read the new posts instead of reading the new posts AND flipping back to the first page.

I recently discovered that box sets are 20% cheaper on fulfilled accounts versus unfulfilled accounts.I don't think it has to do with whether the account has been fulfilled or not. I think it has to do with length of membership. I have 2 fulfilled accounts right now. One is much older than the other and it shows the Buffalo Springfield box for $32 whereas the other shows $40...BMG is weird

Just a warning: it seems BMG is surreptitiously removing Columbia jazz and fusion albums from their site. The past few weeks have seen the removal of Santana and Mahavishnu's Love, Devotion, Surrender, Miles Davis' In a Silent Way, Filles de Kilimanjaro, Get Up With It, and Bitches Brew, and Weather Report's Mysterious Traveler. These are only the ones I've noticed. Anyway, it might be wise to move up similar Columbia albums up in priority.

Also, it seems Frank Sinatra and Ramones fans will have new releases in the future.

I know this has probably been asked a thousand times before in previous threads but I can't find the other parts in this forum. When I fulfill my membership with BMG it asks me to enter a specific code to fulfill. Do I somehow enter both or is does it pretty much count no matter the promotion code you enter(as long as you buy one at full price)? Thanks.

When you sign in, it should be in on the left side of the screen. It is a light blue box and is above the account information/YOU HAVE FREE MUSIC etc. links.

It appears on my account with the Modern Rock preference but not on the one with the Jazz preference.

Thanks. The country preference must be like the jazz preference (none at this time). Maybe it only shows every so often when you take advantage of the deal. This is the only box I have there.

No Music Discovery for me either, preference is metal. I tried changing to modern rock to see if that mattered, but it didn't for me.

well you get 16 total and pay $2.79 shipping each plus one at about $19 for a total of $63.64 which is $3.98 each.

If you join with the 15-for-1 offer, the average is $3.79/disc.

As an aside, Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow, Wired, and box set are now gone. On the plus side, Jean-Luc Ponty is making a club comeback. Also in the cards is another Dream Theater album, likely to be either Systematic Chaos w/ DVD or Score.

When I buy my fulfillment title I usually purchase 5 2 disc sets with the buy1get4 sale.

Is there a way to sort 2 disc sets on bmg? Is there a list anywhere?

Anyone have any recommendations?

I'm looking into the Cure reissues, Highwaymen, Dwight Yoakam reissue.

Doctor X
09-28-07, 03:58 PM
one way that might work is to do a title search for "2 cd" This would only give you something that is listed as a 2 cd deluxe set for example, or search for "dvd" which would list cd/dvd combos. I'm not sure about standard double disc sets.

OK, I've tried to see if I could find the logic behind Free Shipping. This may not be 100% true, but it holds up so far:

If the offer is "Free Shipping", it works for Regular Selections and x-Packs

If the offer is "Buy x for Free Shipping", it works for Regular Selections and Box Sets.

This last "55% Off, Plus Free Shipping & Take An Additional $10 Off Your Order of 5 or More Selections" is performing something new. Free x-Pack shipping plus discounts on some of them. But, with like 3 exceptions, x-Packs don't count as a selection?

I have never found any Free Shipping that works for Overstock. <sigh>

At least there's an word on the matter from someone in the know.

Unfortunately, BMG appears to be taking this departure in stride. While their selection of artists that people might actually want to listen to withers away, a never-ending succession of poor releases continually make their way into the club, which I'm assuming is because the licensing fees of these albums are next to nothing. I'd happily pay more per disc if they would increase the quality of their catalog.

SFranke

From bottom to top:

bmgmusic.com/bmgfreecds

There's no limit to the amount of music points you can redeem. However, you can only redeem them in groups of 19. Thus, you have one CD, and you'll have another free one when you get 14 more.

Yes, you can use two free CDs to order a CD/DVD combo.

Those waiting on FS codes: Doctor X and SBJ don't hold out, so they'll post it ASAP. In other words, begging doesn't help. However, the holiday season is upon us, so there will be plenty of good codes soon.

BobO'Link
11-11-07, 02:36 PM
^Although why you would want to use 2 free CDs to do this escapes me. The "combo" would need to have a regular club price of at least $38 to efficiently use those points since you can get 2 $19 selections for that. I would think these would be better values and maximize savings when ordered using % off codes.

You can get the answer yourself by clicking on the "details" link on the image on the site... Had you done this you would have read in part "...you will qualify to receive 2 Free CDs with a CD purchase in January..." which, in simple terms, means 'yes' you must buy a CD now to get this deal in January, which will be sent as an email link, which means it will NOT stack. Pretty bad deal.

I am guessing they are talking about the free shipping or possibly smaller sets like 2 discs (which would be $11.98). The best you will probably get with sets will be 65% off and free shipping.

Yeah, that's basically what I meant. Some of the free shipping codes don't work on boxsets, making them much more expensive. The code doesn't usually affect the price of the boxsets but it does remove the shipping cost - and you get a good deal for the set that way.

Wow, any way to strip the 'Cool' part off of the 'Cool New Member' status?

Anyway, they have some decent DVD deals on the BMG site, with free CDs with your order.

The Office S3 for $29.99 and Planet Earth for $47.99 - if they ever put free shipping on those it would be better.

I do hope you are kidding.

Just in case. You are only supposed to have a digital copy of a song if you in fact own the physical CD. That is unless you purchase a digital version (ala iTunes) or the file itself was made free by the artist and/or label.

The minute you no longer own the physical CD is the moment you no longer retain the right to have that digital file. The same can be said of simply burning a copy of the disc.

Of course, many people still do and pretty much nobody will ever actually have anything done to them. However, broadcasting the fact you are doing that is probably not the smartest thing to do.

I don't know any law as I am certainly no expert in legal issues. A quick glance at google reveals that at best it is murky on both sides of the issues and there has yet to be any court decision one way or another (as I would guess is the case in most instances of the issues in the debate). It seems to all revolve around what fair use rights you have when you no longer own the physical disc. So I suppose it in the strictest terms it is not illegal, at least at this point.

Okay, random question, but I would love to [re] join BMG and I haven't seen anything covering this (I emailed "tech support" but we all know BMG customer service blows when you're a member, so I can't imagine it's any better for non members)...

What's the deal with "member's only" CDs? Can they only be purchased for full price? Can they be used as "free"/discount selections once you're a member? I want to join, but there are at least 4 or 5 CDs I want to get that are members only, and if I can eventually get them (without having to pay full price) then great, but if I can only get one (the CD I buy to fulfill membership requirements) that's not so hot.

Can anyone answer this for me? Thanks so much!

You are confusing "members only" titles with "premium titles." "Members only" titles are CDs only members can order but are fully included in any sales and are available as free/bonus selections. "Premium Titles," on the other hand, sound like what you are referring to. Premium Titles are a selection of high-demand titles that are not regular BMG-stamped discs and are available only to members at full price with no option for discount.

Current examples of both: A "members only" title is 50 Cent's "Curtis" album (#1718048); I can add this to my cart as a member and even apply a free CD credit to it. Mary J. Blige's "Growing Pains" (#1655109) is available as a "Premium Title" and has to be prepaid with no discounts.

I know this comes about a week and a half late for the original person who asked the question but I'm an infrequent reader. Sorry! :)

Yes, a premium title may be used as a fulfillment item. However, I've never attempted to purchase one that was priced below the $14.98 requirement so I don't know if the $13.98 and below ones will count. Anyone else know?

use the get 15/1 sign-up deal. you can find it by checking back through postings for the code or ask one of the frequently posting bmg wizards. after you fulfill, do it again with an new account. as long as you can make your picks 15 at a time it is probably the best deal. just don't start re-ordering the same titles as you will be pegged as a potential (unauthorized) reseller and be banished from the bmg kingdom. i have used this club and yourmusic.com to build a super collection of classical cds.

15 * 2.79 = 41.85 (total shipping)
1 * 19 = 19.00 (full price selection)
total = 60.85
divide by 15 = 4.06/cd

now if you fulfill with a buy1 get 4 free code
19 * 2.79 = 53.01 (shipping)

If you're going to repeat, send a referral to a 2nd email address. That only gives 12/1 on the new account - it can't combine with 15/1 - but the first account gets 5 free discs and some music points. Also, you won't need as many selections at once, you can finish the new account quicker and take your time with the extra 5 on the first account.

It seems plausible, though surprising, that BMG intended this to be a Buy 1 Get 7 Free deal. It does not seem plausible that the first three discs would be free. I think that part of the deal is a mistake, and will likely be rescinded. How they do that will demonstrate their customer satisfaction commitment. I am considering whether to try the 3-Free or the Buy 1 Get 7 Free, and I'm leaning toward the latter. Any thoughts?

I had similar thoughts when I placed an order. My first thought was to use the "buy 1 get 7" deal to fulfill an account. When I saw that the first 3 were free (and it worked on 2 cd sets), I just placed that order. I figure it is worth a try, the worst they can do is cancel the order. I am just trying to exercise some restraint and not order a bunch more while they are this cheap...

You might as well try it before they change their mind.

Interesting... I've watched over a dozen "premium titles" over the years hoping they would "make-the-jump" but they never did. Most just quietly went away and the very few that remained are still "premium". I never look at 'em anymore unless they show up doing an artist search. If they show up as "premium" I add them to my "pick up elsewhere" list and go on.

Out of curiosity, I just took a look at the "premium" titles to see what is there and discovered that there *are* a few that once were available as regular titles, went away, and are now back as "premium".

So, that's 2 of you that have chimed in on this. Anyone else seen these switch? It would be interesting to see which titles. Maybe it's more of a genre thing. I tend to look only at "Jazz", "Classic Rock", and "Hard Rock". I've not seen any of those titles I've been interested in switch to regular.

You are correct about the sorry state of BMG's catalog. Each week they offer up several brand new albums from acts that no one has ever heard of or would want to take a chance on while the well of classic recordings dries up much faster than it is replenished.

There is still some good music to be had, in my opinion. I ordered: Traffic - The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys, Opeth - Damnation and Deliverance, John McLaughlin - Industrial Zen, Al DiMeola - Flesh on Flesh, Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick, Robert Fripp & Andy Summers - I Advance Masked, and Rush - A Farewell to Kings and Presto.

Going back to knock out more of my wish list: Alan Parsons Project - Tales of Mystery and Imagination, Rush - Caress of Steel, The Mars Volta - Scab Dates, Frank Zappa - Apostrophe, Adrian Belew - Side Three, Pat Metheny - As Falls Wichita, So Wichita Falls, Chick Corea - Light as a Feather, Genesis - ...And Then There Were Three....

You convinced me. I'm in for two orders, each a double disc and a single disc.

So what the hell has happened to BMG's catalog? Did they lose their contract with one of the big labels or something? I've noticed a lot of titles they used to carry, including a bunch I bought from them, that are now gone. The ones that jumped out at me the most are The Clash and Ben Folds.

I think I'm done with this finally. I went a bit overboard, but at not even three bucks a CD it's hard to resist. If this code lasts I may do a couple more here and there, but I've about exhausted the list of what I want.

On a related note, does anyone know how BMG handles the bill me option? I've always used it in my 7+ years with the club, but I've never built up much of a balance. How long do they give you to pay it off? Is there a point where they cut you off and stop shipping until they get some sort of payment? My first couple show shipped, but the rest are stuck at processing. Does that mean I need to make a payment before the rest will ship?

In my experience, they won't let you have more than $40 of orders before they stop shipping billed orders. You have about one or two months to pay it off, and if you don't pay in that time, you get charged a $3 late fee for every month you don't pay after that.

I decided to take a leap, but show a little restraint. I have two open accounts at the moment, so I placed 5 orders under each. Mostly the 2-disc Deluxe Editions that I've had my eye on.

If they show as shipped soon, I may attempt a few more orders. However there is not much left at BMG that I want. The current state of their catalog is terrible.

My advice is to closely watch your Order History page. Check it once a day, since they seem to update overnight. I've had orders change without warning in the past. For example, I used a B1G4 code to fulfill once, but the order got cancelled and recreated without a code, which meant I got charged a LOT more. They corrected it quickly after I emailed support, but that probably won't work on these orders...

How long do they give you to pay it off?I placed an order in October for $113.41 and it shipped quick. This time I placed an order for $206.42. If you don't pay it off in 1 month you will be charged a $3 late fee but if you are just a few days late you can usually call them up and get that taken off.

My first couple show shipped, but the rest are stuck at processing.Part of mine shipped one day & the rest shipped the next day and they have showed shipped for 1-3 days now. I think there's a cut off point to when they ship. If you don't get your order in by it, they ship the next day.

SFranke

Most of my orders have shipped, as well, and I didn't even begin ordering en masse until the second day of the code.

I also chose the "bill me" option on a large portion of my orders to justify spending more than I would prefer at once. Despite ordering much more than $40, which has been my "cut-off" point in the past, BMG shipped out every order except those which were OOS.

I've received 10 e-mail shipment confirmations from the orders I placed on 1/16. I'm still waiting for 22 more e-mail confirmations. When I log into my BMG account 23 orders show as "Shipped," 6 show as "Processing," and 3 show as "Not Shipped." I'm not 100% sure what's up with the 3 "Not Shipped" but past experience has shown that they are probably out of stock. So, all signs are "GO."

Greatest code ever!!! Thanks OP!!! After spending a ton on the recent Amazon Blu-Ray and HD sales this wasn't something I was looking for but it is just too good of a deal to pass up. It yields a better average cost per CD than enrolling, cancelling, enrolling, cancelling, etc...without the extra effort to enroll, cancel, enroll, cancel, etc... I won't need to buy another "catalog" CD for two years with the load I just bought.

Email shipping confirmations usually have a lag of about a day or two from actual shipping. BMG typically updates its systems at around 12 am PST every night - it takes about an hour or two. So the best thing to do is check online. The systems are not updated during the day at all - even if your items ship that day, the website will only be updated at night.

Yeah I figured it was something like that. My first order was placed on 1/11, it showed as shipped on 1/12 on the site. I never received an order confirmation email but on the 16th I got an email saying the order was shipped on 1/15. The reason I asked the original question is that I usually get an email confirming my orders, and also the discrepancy in ship dates on this other order.

I have a feeling that BMG won't even catch this glitch and it will run until it expires. They already get so many orders that are "free" with shipping as the only charge, that these may not raise a red flag. However they might get a clue if they decide to investigate the sudden increase in orders or if they read this forum...

LOL! That is definitely true! Fortunately I'm young, single, have a well paying job and can take advantage of these deals :) Of course, unless I want to stay single I need to curb the spending habits, so I did make a pact with my “inner deal demon” to not buy anymore CDs or DVDs until March, so let's see how well I do...I did manage to pre-order a good lot of Blu-Ray and HD titles from Amazon in November and December so that should help (it's definitely bordering on cheating the pact but I couldn't survive without some new DVDs rolling in). The next sale that comes along like this just check in the thread to see if I broke my pact…I’m going to try like hell to pull this off! I’m trying to think of it as an early Lent commitment for that "extra" motivation :)

So many good Frank Sinatra but I'd grab a capitol set and reprise set.
