Reports are coming on the "lite" model. Basically they dropped OLED, THX and lowered the size of the HD. Not bad I suppose, especially at $300. Must easier decision to pick on up vice the $600+ "regular' S3.

I will pick this up as soon as possible. Ive heard the HD for the series 3 is easy to upgrade. I hope thats the case for this as well.

Far from being the best looking design TiVo has ever put out, that's for sure.

You can add an external drive to the series 3 via the USB port so I am sure you can with this as well.

Unless the removal of that functionality is part of what makes it the 'lite' version.

I wasn't too thrilled at the smaller HD, but really I think it's about the same I used to have on my Cox box. And if you're good at keeping things clean/watching, then really it's plenty of room. Besides, we all know Tivo has a better interface/management than those SA boxes.

and you can always transfer shows to your computer and then stream them back to your tv if you want.

Uh, not on the current S3 you can't.

I would assume the same ongoing Cablecard crap with TTG and MRV on the S3 will carry over to the lite version. They keep promising it's coming, but it's not getting any closer.

TTG, MRV?

TTG = TiVo To Go (the ability to feed content from your TiVo to your computer and viceversa)

MRV = Multi-Room Viewing (the ability to watch content recorded on one TiVo on another on the same network)

Oh, for sure! I got into a huge debate over at AVS with some guy about those. I was claiming the S3 was crippled because it didn't support those and he wouldn't stand for it. :(

I guess that's a matter of what you want from a Tivo. I never used either on my S2, so from my perspective, having or not having them wouldn't impact the value of the S3.

Eventually, the port will not be enabled during the inital release.

Depending upon the monthly service charges - I'm all over this baby.
