Shalhoub: Monk in its last season?

I hope not. I know the show can't go on forever, but it should be able to last for a couple more seasons. This has been one of my favorite shows of all-time. The O.C has already been cancelled on me, and lesser favorites like War at Home and The Loop are gone too. The New Adventures of Old Christine won't be back until midseason, and another favorite of mine "... Mother" was barely renewed.

"Monk" star and exec producer Tony Shalhoub says the sixth season of the Emmy-winning USA Network show returning July 13 could be the last for the beloved obsessive-compulsive detective. "My contract is up in November, and we're going to have to see how it all plays out," says Shalhoub, who's won three Emmys, a Golden Globe and two SAG Awards for his portrayal.

"I do love the people and I love the part, but it's a question. There's a lot of stiff competition, especially with so much more programming on basic cable. The field has really become quite full." If he does continue with the character, Shalhoub says he's definitely not interested in signing another long-term contract. "I will have to take them one year at a time."

If this does turn out to be "Monk's" last season, Shalhoub promises some unforgettable segments. "We have some great things coming down the pike," says Shalhoub. In the Friday (7/13) episode, controversial comedienne Sarah Silverman returns in a role she played three years ago, the stalker of a TV star. "But now she's become this very, very aggressive and fanatical devotee of Monk's. Over time he gets sort of seduced into the fact that she worships him." The second episode is "Mr. Monk and the Rapper, with Snoop Dogg as the special guest star. "Talk about two worlds colliding," says Shalhoub with a laugh. "In the beginning there's a fictitious rapper called Extra Large who's killed by a car bomb. Snoop Dogg plays his rival rapper, MurdeRuss, who comes to hire Monk because he knows all fingers will be pointing at him."

Shalhoub says it was the first time he'd ever met Snoop Dogg -- "Our paths for some reason have never crossed," he quips -- but adds, "He's a friend now. He was terrific. It's a lovely episode." He says we won't be seeing Monk break out in any rhymes in the episode, but once he solves the crime "Snoop raps the summation. Monk is trying to do the summation to a crowd that's not listening to him, so he comes in and helps Monk."

I enjoy Monk but I wouldn't be disappointed to see it finish this year. It's had a good run.

Same here. The ratio of average to good shows has been increasing, unfortunately. I'd rather it ended on a high note.

As long as it ends with him avenging his wife's death. It's been a fantastic run, but I'm hoping it sticks around for at least another year.

It'll end with Monk confronting Michael Scott in Scranton, PA...

As long as it finally closes the case of his wifes death (murder?) I'll be happy. The first two episodes mentioned sound like they'll be great ones. Looking forward to it.

Any info on when Psych starts? Same day I assume?

Agree with most of you that it's probably about time and it wouldn't be a bad thing for it to end this year. I would also like to see some finality with Trudy's death.

It's a power play for a new contract and more money. I think USA will sign him to a 2-year deal and give him a nice pay raise since, I believe, Monk is their highest rated series...

I am a little worried that it's going to turn into wacky-guest-star-of-the-week though.

I think one more season would be perfect. Remember it's about quality not
quantity.

The USA Network would have one hell of a ratings grabber if they had...

Psych
Monk
Law & Order: CI

I think a better lineup would be:

Psych
Monk
Burn Notice

Personally, L&O: CI became too serious for my taste this past year.

I love the show but this is one show i've always kinda wanted to end just because I knew we would never get 100% of the answers on Trudy's death until the finale. Great show, and so far USA has a great lineup for friday nights. I'd hate to see it lose Monk, but my desire to get all the answers just is somewhat overwhelming.

Noooo!!! Why would you ever want it to end!? Haha...

Who know's though...7 seasons is more than an honorable-run, so maybe we'll know all about Trudy's killer, by the end of this one?! Although, I'd still hate to see it end...

They should cast Steve Carell as Trudy's killer.

War at Home S1 $9.44

There's so many good shows out there and so little time to watch them all. I gave up on Monk, House, Lost, Desperate Housewives, and Psych for now. The one show I'm watching live is Burn Notice (and Weeds once I catch up to S4 (on S2 now)), and Grey's Anatomy and nip/tuck whenever they come back. I'm watching SFU on DVD and waiting for the DVD for Californication. Watching Dexter on Netflix WIN. So many shows, so little time

Then, as he walks out of the police station, he stops dodging cracks, he drops his wipes, picks up some dirty sun glasses out of the trash and puts them on, then gets in a car with Sharona to drive off. Just then, Capt. Stottlemeyer and Randy realize that there's a photo of a monk on the backwall of Stottlemeyer's office.

I know, it doesn't fit with the story, but it would be hilarious.

If you're not watching Monk because of Grey's Anatomy, you need to be shot. Seriously, shot.
