tvshowsondvd.com (http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7625) is reporting that FOX is releasing an 'Angel Complete Series' box this halloween with an MSRP around $149.99.

I can't justify selling my sets that I know I'll make no money on, to get this.

Would be nice though.

I made money ditching my Buffy sets for the Chosen Collection but that had an extra disk. If all this is is a repackaging, I may just avoid the hassle and keep what I've got.

Excellent, I picked up the Buffy set from Amazon when they had it for $100 and have been waiting until an Angel box set got released before I took the plunge and started watching. These are both complete blind buys for me (and easily the most I've ever spent on a blind buy), but I've heard so many great recommendations from people with similar tastes that I can't help myself. I'm really excited to start the ride.

I'm surprised it took them this long to come out with this complete set.

ITA! Glad the studio made a easy choice for me. No bonus disc = no sale.

Yeah, it'd have to have some really snazzy packaging at this point for me to considering getting the new one with no bonus disc.

I'll definitely sell off my single sets for the complete series, even if it means taking a small ($20-30) loss.

I forgot that there was a complete set of Buffy. Now that means I'm gonna have to pick up both sets so that I can finally dive into these two shows. I just finished watching Firefly and I'm in the mood for some more Whedon.

To elaborate, the sets are so cheap as it is, that selling mine wouldn't be worth the trouble since so many used CD stores have the original digipaks ever since the slim sets came out. So I'm stuck with my digipaks on a shelf and the discs in a 48-capacity wallet.

I already have all the original separete releases, and unlike the UK Buffy Box set which had the episodes in widescreen as well as the bonus disk, the fact that this one will probably offer nothing extra except for a box, I'll pass this time.

Cool. I bought the Buffy complete set as a blind buy about a year ago, and I am just finishing up Season 4. 3 more Buffy seasons to go, then hopefully onto Angel (also a blind buy).

I was wondering when in the world we would see this after the Buffy set. I'll be considering this as I have yet to pick up any Angel.

Many people, myself included, even consider ANGEL to be the better show. Its kinda funny to as for several years ANGEL got about a million more viewers than BUFFY.

Considering I just got all of the sets for $19.99 at BB, I don't think that I will sell off/rebuy unless the packaging is really cool, or there is enough bonus materials to make it worth it.

I read the early rumor a few weeks ago, and me and a friend sold our sets for $100 each. Bring on the complete!

The box is beautiful. Glad they chose the blue skyline look. Goes great with "City of.." Will look great beside Chosen

I've always found it to be vastly superior.

The box looks nice, since it resembles the Season 2 DVD steel blue cloud artwork (the best looking of all 5 season sets) but it still isn't worth trading in my sets that I'd never be able to sell off anyway. Especially since all it includes is a booklet and letter. Unless they secretly snuck in something like a 16:9 modified season 1, or restored the recaps, sorry. Would be nice though.

Are these series one's that you want to watch at the same time to avoid spoilers from one show to the other?

Yeah, I've been waiting for a complete collection to dump my fat sets too. I'm also going to get rid of my Stargate seasons too, since a box for that is coming as well. I love these complete collections. Even if I have to pay a little extra for them, I don't really mind. Plus, I think most of my Angel sets I got as gifts, so it's really not like I'm going to be spending that much extra.

It's complicated. The short answer is yes. But both shows rely on flashbacks to fill in character development and answer questions that were brought up in earlier episodes. (In some cases, the shows crossover specific plot points).

My suggestion is to watch all the Buffys (1-7) first, and then watch all the Angels (1-5) after, keeping in mind that season one of Angel runs consecutively with Buffy four. It's usually a plot point on Buffy that follows on Angel (i.e. watching the Buffys first won't spoil Angel, but vice versa often will), but there are two very explicit points where the opposite is true. (I'm thinking of the final episode of Angel 4 being VERY significant to the penultimate episode of Buffy 7 and a character that was introduced on Buffy returning years later to what would appear to be a very odd response (i.e. makes sense if you've seen the crossover, but will seem odd if you haven't)).

If you do want to watch both concurrently, though, the pattern needs to be:

Buffy 4/5 and Angel 1/2 - alternate Buffy episodes with Angels
Buffy 6/Angel 3 - watch the first Angel, then the first Buffy. watch Carpe Noctem before Flooded. the rest of the series in any order you want (no crossovers)
Buffy 7/Angel 4 - you need to watch Buffy - Lies My Parents Told Me, then Angel - Orpheus, then Buffy - Dirty Girls and you need to watch Angel - Home before Buffy - End Of Days.
And whatever you do, don't watch any of season 5 of Angel until after watching season 7 of Buffy. There's more spoilers than you can imagine.

The box sets might not be as bad as the individual season sets for revealing spoilers on the package art, but the episode descriptions and the menu artwork is still gonna give away many of the surprises.

If you don't mind taking the time to change discs, I suggest alternating them for seasons that ran at the same time... for example, watch Buffy season 4 disc 1, then Angel season 1 disc 1, and keep going back and forth.

Luckily I have a 5 disc player (that I use primarily for watching TV on DVD), so that won't be a problem :)

Try it that way, then. I just had someone else get into Buffy / Angel a few months ago, and I recommended that to them. They loved it because they caught the subtle crossover hints between the shows. Later on, when the shows were on different networks, those little things didn't happen as often, but it's still worthwhile.

I came across this post from another forum when I was wondering about the proper order when watching Buffy S4 and Angel S1 DVDs:

http://www.hometheaterforum.com/htf/showpost.php?p=1523110&postcount=24

I don't recall there being any issue when watching them in this order, but changing the discs was a tad tedious so I have a suggestion: when switching discs, don't eject it from the disc's menu, do it during the end credits of an episode. This way, when you put the disc back, your player should automatically go back to the spot where you ejected it at. Then hit the menu button on your remote and it should go back to the episode list. I saved a lot of time going this route...

This is exactly how I introduced the show to my friends up at college. Our freshman year when we had time to kill a group of us decided to re-watch (or in most people's case 'Watch for the first time') the entire series of "buffy and angel." Instead of going episode for episode, I figured it would be best to go disc by disc and it worked well. It only took us 6 months to watch both series, lol.

Just remember that seasons 4 and 5 of Buffy and 1 and 2 of Angel ran back to back on the same night on the same network, and the crossovers were produced to match. When Buffy moved to UPN, things became a lot more confused. Especially with season 4 of Angel - if you just watch them alternately (B/A, B/A, B/A) there are things will happen wildly out of sequence - some very important things will happen on one show that give away things that haven't happened yet on the other.

There's one particular crossover that alternating discs won't help with:
Willow will arrive in LA to pick up Faith long before she even leaves Sunnydale. also, Angel will arrive in Sunnydale with the amulet while they're still fighting Jasmine in LA and before he even receives the amulet from Lilah. and, as far as the beginning of Angel 4, it's better to watch Angel dealing with Buffy's death before we find out that she's been resurrected.

No bonus disc, which makes it a tougher sell for me when I already got the seaons. The box is beautiful though.

And I agree with those that say Angel is the better show. I blew through Angel season sets quickly, whereas with Buffy I found it more difficult.

I've waited a long time for this set. I have regretted not watching this show when it began and I've avoided it like the plague, so I could get the complete series.

Too bad it's coming out the same day as the new MSCL, because if it has the kind of special features I'm hoping for, I'll probably go through that and rewatch each episode first.

I won't be done with Angel until 2008.

i used tv.com to check the airdates when i watched Buffy and Angel together. especially useful in season 5 where sometimes there were multiple Buffy episodes in a row before Angel aired again. by using the airdates instead of just alternating, everything flowed together correctly, i would suggest that.

That's a good list, except that I'd suggest watching Angel - Heartthrob BEFORE Buffy - Bargaining.

Following the air dates is almost okay, but there was a Presidential Address that pre-empted 'Orpheus' when it was supposed to air, and that messes with the continuity of a major crossover plotline. Buffy-Lies My Parents / Angel - Orpheus / Buffy - Dirty Girls is a required sequence.

Trying to correctly sync up the individual episodes in sequence is hard and tedious work. Although not perfect, I find it acceptable enough to just alternate an entire season of Buffy followed by an entire season of Angel:

B4->A1->B5->A2->B6->A3->B7->A4->A5.

I've only seen the first season of Angel, which is not even close to any season of Buffy (except for season 5 which I hated). Does Angel get better after the first season?

BY FAR! It took me awhile to be able to get through season 1, but after that, Angel is an AMAZING show. Season 3 is personally my favorite, but all of them are damn good.

I just want to add as well that while ANGEL was only 5 seasons, the fifth season personally seems like two smaller seasons added together. You have the first 11 episodes which are all stand-alone monster-of-the-week types (but much stronger episode than one would imagine), and then the second half starting with "Your Welcome" is a large arc that makes it seem that the entire series had been building to that point.

Season 1 is good. Season 2 is Fantastic. Season 3 is Amazing. Season 4 is CRAZY. And Season 5 is really strong.

Simple but very accurate description, I may have chosen a stronger word than strong for Season 5 but thats just me. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed with this collection.

I've noticed a lot of posters saying they would watch all of Buffy, then watch Angel. I've been going through the shows and would recommend watching Buffy through Season 3, then begin alternating between Buffy and Angel.

I say this because there are many times where the shows cross over into each other or have very cool references to events in the other show that you could only understand if you're keeping up with both as they originally aired.

I'm at the end of Buffy season 5 and Angel season 2. While I love Buffy, Angel is just pretty good, though I hear it gets better.

I feel the same way only if you switch the shows around.

i LOVED Buffy, and honestly i didnt expect to like Angel too much, but it didnt take long for me to see the light. the new supporting cast on Angel was awesome (Doyle and Gunn and then Fred and especially Lorne), along with the familiar faces from Buffy popping in and out and some staying. excellent excellent show (yes i meant to say that twice).

Does anyone know the actual release date for this set? Amazon has it listed as 10/30...but Best Buy's website and new ad both say it's this Tuesday.

From what I understand, Best Buy got a two week exclusive window to sell the set early.

I should add (without giving anything away) that the final episode of Angel is not only one of the best finales I've ever seen, but it has possibly the greatest TV-series ending moment ever, except for maybe Six Feet Under. Let's get to work!

For anyone to say that just proves how much they didn't truly understand the show, its characters, and what it all meant.
That is a major disappointment, but that's your (and anyone else who 'hated' it) loss.

It was the best, most defining moment of five years of what is still my all-time favorite series.

Especially now with the Angel: After the Fall comics coming out (which according to Whedon are official canon).

I was initially upset with the ending. My father and I just starred at the tv going WTF. But then I started to think about it and realized just how appropriate the ending was.

Yeah, Best Buy has it. I just checked store availability and it's in-stock at my local stores in Orlando, FL.

Yes, mine had it as well. When I went in to purchase "Transformers" and "Planet Terror" they had probably about 6 or 7 boxes in the front at $99.95 each.

Picked mine up at Best Buy today. They had about 5 copies. I must say that I was surprised as the box is actually a lot smaller than what the promo pictures have shown. It is shorter than the Buffy Collection.

The letter from Joss is nice and the new booklet is pretty neat as well. One nice touch is that all the cover art has been redone for this series. Each season is a different color (Season 1 is Blue, Season 2 is red etc) and it matches the booklet.

Here are some pics of it.

I need to decide if I want to take the plunge on Amazon or hold off until the 20% sale (assuming it happens, of course) on DD. Any thoughts from anyone? I can't assume that the price currently offered by DD will still be there by the 20% off sale, but even with a decent increase, it will still be cheaper than Amazon...

thanks for the pics. tvshowsondvd reported that best buy has it exclusively for 2 weeks. i had some off my sets on amazon and pre-ordered it from there for a net charte of $2 when it comes out, so i can wait my extra 2 weeks.

I can't believe you got that number - you should've gone back, bought another one, then stuck the "666" box up on Ebay. Haha.

I so wish they would've included ANY bonus content with that set. I'd jump all over it. I can't justify the money just for a booklet and cool packaging. I never did sell my old Buffy sets after I got the series set because I liked the artwork in the packaging.

Nice, so this is actually a "numbered" limited edition. Anybody know what it's supposed to be limited to?

Went to Best Buy at lunch but didn't see this there.

 I understood the show completely. For me to say it proves I didn't like it. Quit trying to spin it as though anyone who didn't like it is just wrong.

I said it's your loss. And it does indeed seem wrong because it's the one true foundation for who Angel is, and what he and his crew stood for. In that regard, it couldn't have been more perfect.

But again, it's your loss if you 'hated' it.

I thought the ending was fine, but people tend to want some sort of closure with finales. I personally don't really care, as long as they do something that I enjoy.

Incredible luck with the 666 Matto!

I saw one set at my BB, it was 8,XXX something.

Since the seasons are stacked vertically, it makes sense that Angel's box would be shorter than Buffy's, given that had fewer seasons.

Yes I agree it should be shorter...but it would be nice if it could be as tall as the Buffy set.

That said however, I was worried how it would look at first being shorter...but side by side they look VERY NICE together.

And yes...it's crazy I got the box number 666! I have since canceled my Amazon preorder since I know I couldn't get a better number...except maybe 001.

So this doesn't contain anything extra from the individual seasons? Does it at least keep all of the bonus features from said seasons?

Thanks for the pics. Looks nice, though they could've had pics of the other cast on those season inserts instead of all Angel, IMO. Double dipped for the UK Buffy set for the widescreen episodes, but probably won't with this Angel set.

Saw the ad on Sunday and figured it was a mistake. Shocked to see it at BB today and bought it for $90 (had a 10% off coupon!). Not bad looking. Got #1607.
