How many fuggin movies are going to use the computer hacker/upload virus plot?

I mean can we really think of something else?

I feel like in the past couple years, I've seen the same nerds uploading the same viruses to the same internal government network to accompany the same terrorist plot.

Considering it's a very real and common attack, why not? Tho I still don't understand how Goldblum uploaded to a seemingly alien technology?

If they dropped the whole "virus" angle (mostly they use "worms", really) and went with something a little more current, say a DDoS or zero-day exploit sort of thing, I'd be more welcoming. As it stands, groin.

I was just thinking about this the other day while watching Office Space. It would've been a lot faster if Peter and crew just had multiple disks with the virus instead of passing around the one disk. Also, it helps when the virus file you're uploading isn't named "virus.exe".

Its called being up to date, relevant, and 'now'

What, do you want a movie where the bad guys rob a train on horseback?

This was mentioned in Live Free or Die Hard. It turned out to be... an exploit.

Back when Office Space came out I doubt many people knew what a virus was.

Except it was a MONSTER plot point in Independence Day, which came out 3 years earlier.

Computer viruses were pretty well known by the populace at large, if not entirely understood.

Viruses are passe. Worms and targetted denials-of-service attacks are where it's at BABY!

Let's hear it for the groin! Let's give the groin a hand!

Eh. Not much different from a terrorist always taking hostages or the lead character's son/daughter/wife or whatever. It's just like super villans that always try and take over the world. I'm used to it so they're not too groin inducing.

They were in comic books in the early 80's. I remember in the very early 90's there was some headline about a virus (Da Vinci? Galileo?) that turned out to be not much of a threat.

i-book, man. i-book.

(read: no frackin' clue)

But as groin-inducing plot devices go, I can live with it.

I think they should use "the villian is threatening to install Windows Vista" as the main plot for future films.

I could say the same about super-secret agencies with buffoons for agents.

AGENT IN SUIT: "Someone's hacking the A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. mainframe!"

HACKER: "Oh these guys are good..." (taps at keys and makes clacky-clacky noises) "Yes! I'm in!"

I would enjoy the ten minutes of expository explanation to explain what this is to the semi-literate, stoned 14 year-olds in the audience.

I mean seriously. I'd rather they just call it virus.exe and use that time to blow up another car or show some tits or something.

Well for us stoned 25 year-olds in the audience, we don't need ridiculous on-the-nose exposition in such a case. Most of the time, texture and ambience can substitute for technobable-for-the-sake-of-exposition, do a better job of it and be less patronizing at the same time.

Can you name 5 movies in the last two years with this plot?

(Off the top of your head, no imdb cheating)
