Don't know entirely what exactly the fuk's going on with these supernatural elements or what they're rambling, but I LOVE this show!! I'm really enjoying Rebecca DeMornay's over-the-top and on edge grandmother.
My only gripe is with the wooden delivery of the kid who plays Shaun. KERPLUNK! At least the surfer chick who plays Kai is making an effort to act...the kid doesn't even try to look remotely human.

I thought this was the first episode that sucked. Even though they were really able to introduce the mom character more, I thought this was basically a filler episode.
Some of the better parts of the show for me is when Butchie, John and Kai interact with eachother. Not only is it comic relief but you also see the characters epand on their emotions more.
Also I gotta agree with skatefan that the chick playing Kai has definitely gotten better with her acting skills.

The character of Link is the one that perplexes me, what is his angle?
Vietname Joe got messed up by what John had him do to heal John.
Bill is still yapping at Zippy.
Who knew Shaun's mom would have a long career in porn.
Grandma was hysterical in her over-reaction to Tina's presence.
John in the wrestling ring was a highlight (sadly).

I'm still watching, I'm not quite sure why. I want to shake the fuck out of John. Ed Harris' character is funny in a neurotic woody allen kind of way, and the porn star girl was hot....but I'm not sure I want to deal with her as a recurring character.

The acting was bad but I thought part of that was because the writing was beyond awful. The guy listed as the writer is a former surf magazine writer with no other tv or movie credits. Bill's monolugue with Zippy sounded like Milch, but the rest was crap.
This show would be a lot better if Shaun had died and taken his grandparents with him.

I also don't know why I'm watching this show. I just feel compelled to. Ed O'Neill is fascinating as a character. I wish I could just watch an hour of him rambling to himself every week.

it's intriguing but it's no Deadwood. nothing happened this week. the characters of deadwood made it great, these people (esp. the grandparents) are mostly just annoying. john is fun though, john and butchie together is the best pairing so far.
