Will you please make your thread titles more descriptive? And add a question mark when you're asking a question!

"Region 99" sounds awfully bootleg-y.

I am not certain if this is what the OP is referring to but, I recently noticed that many Sony/Columbia DVDs at Amazon display [Region99] after the title. It could be some kind of glitch.

When I was scanning some legit titles into Delicious Library this weekend, all of the CTS discs came up "Region 99". They're not boots by any means, but it was odd to see that nonetheless.

Isn't region 9 Russia? Maybe the 99 was a typo?

Hmmm no. No region 9 or 99 out there. I wish there was a region 69 but alas, it remains to be my wish.

I sent an e-mail to Amazon asking them what "region 99" means. I'm assuming it's some sort of error on their end but when I get a response, I'll post it.

This snippet is from the latest DVDBeaver Newsletter:

"WHAT'S UP WITH THIS 'REGION 99'?: An attempt to counter region-free players? Stay tuned after some trials in 'the lab'."

Antarctica would be 9. 99 is not even Mars, more like Pluto.

Here's the response - it was an error on their end

Thanks for writing to Amazon.com to bring this to our attention.

We build our web site information from many sources, and we really
appreciate knowing about any errors which find their way into it.

Please note that due to some technical error in the title listing
from a recent web site push it was mistakenly listed as "Region 99."
Also, note that all of these DVD's are listed as Region 1 in the
product details.

I'll see that this error is corrected as soon as possible.

Best regards,

Makesh.S

Mitch, what was the exact amazon email you wrote to, to get that response? I tried emailing them once about incorrect DVD specs, and they never changed it

Maybe Region 99 DVDs are similar to Region 51 DVDs- they can only be played by UFO aliens in Area 51... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_51

Funny, I was wondering this exact same thing because I've been seeing "Region 99" for a bunch of titles lately on Amazon.
