Lindbergh kidnapping - which is the best book on the subject?

I'm changing gears for a little while, and decided to explore the story of the Lindbergh baby kidnapping. I know the outline of the story - even the fact that the guy the tried for the crime and excuting was actually "the wrong guy." The story is a tragic one, knowing that Charles Lindgergh was an American hero, and that his infant son was really killed right off the bat, when the kidnapper was taking the baby down the ladder from the baby's bedroom.

A kidnapper asking for ransom, knowing the baby was already dead, giving the poor Lindgergh's hope of seeing their son alive again.

There are a lot of books out on this subject - some I'm sure are good, some I'm sure are not so good...has anyone got any suggestions?

(with 9 Kennedy children, how is it that nobody thought of kidnapping one of them? sorry, couldn't resist)

I would actually recommend a really good biography of Lindbergh in general, fittingly called "Lindbergh" by A. Scott Berg -- he led a fascinating life, and this gives the whole story, including several really good chapters on the kidnapping itself. Gives you a wider context perhaps than just a book on the kidnapping might? Anyway, I quite dug it, very good biography.

I have watched a few documentaries and movies on the kidnapping and it always fascinated me too. I would like to read a book on the subject at some point and the book suggested by Sierra Disc sounds interesting.

I don't think that series is available on DVD, so that's a bust.

I've been patiently waiting four years for more suggestions. I refuse to buy a book on the subject until you tell me a suggestion!
