Naked DSL (one with no phone line) will be offered later for $20.

Nice to see. Alas, I'm a prisoner to a small mom-and-pop telephone co that owns all the lines into my particular subdivision. Even tho I have Cingular Wireless (now AT&T), AFAIK I can't bundle my services unless AT&T buys out Smithville Telephone.

$65/mo to DirecTV (I'm addicted to NFL Sunday Ticket... this is non-negotiable)
$45/mo to Smithville for local-only landline and DSL
$70/mo to Cingular/AT&T Wireless

There's gotta be a better way.....

One of the most annoying aspects of DSL up until this point was the "required" phoneline. I'm glad to see that finally changing, but at $10 more? You could spend another $5 and get a very basic line, right?

My "very basic" required phoneline, with no features, no long distance, and with only the ability to call local numbers, costs me $26/mo for service, including all fees and taxes.

Wish that was here, Qwest's cheapest option is a little over 50$ with the most basic phone line.

$50 for a basis phone line from Qwest? I certainly don't pay anything even close to that. IIRC, it's about $15 per month or thereabouts plus taxes. I think someone's feeding you a "line".
