Sonic Youth Documentary circa 1989
I remember taping this off the air 18 years ago so my friends could validate how cool I was for finding it... I forgot about it until tonight and (of course) found it on youtube. It's from a PBS series called "New Television". This episode was about "New York music" and featured SY along with John Zorn, Arto Lindsay and a bunch of other New York musicians from the era.
Anyway, in celebration of the recent rerelease of Daydream Nation, I offer this piece of indie rock nostalgia. This is an exerpt of the full show and focuses on Sonic Youth. Be sure to catch John Cale's brief appearance and the live version of Silver Rocket at the end of the third video. It's also got some fairly fringe people like Lydia Lunch and Mark C. from Live Skull. Brought me right back...
