Best Written Comedies

Best Written Comedies
If wnyx1440 was planning to start a thread on the best written comedies my apologizes.

Anyways just like the best written dramas thread I want to know what do you think are the best written comedies or sitcoms as most people call it. I watch alot of both genres but to me a comedy show would be alot harder for me to create because being funny isn't that easy.
I'm not saying that writing for a TV Drama isn't hard cause it probally is extremly hard but writing for a comedy would be even harder in my opinion.

So what do you think the best written comedies (sitcoms) are?

My picks:

Scrubs
The Larry Sanders show
Newsradio
M*A*S*H
King of Queens

Thats not all the comedies I watch but those stick out in my mind as some of the best written comedies to be shown on TV.

I still marvel at some of those Taxi scripts. As strong as the writing was overall, a bunch are on an even higher level, if that's possible.

Arrested Development - even more difficult to write because so, so many of the jokes depended on callbacks to previous episodes. But the payoff on those jokes for committed viewers is much greater than anything that can be put into a self-contained episode.

Gotta agree with that one, though it's obviously not a straight comedy. I still can't figure out why Comedy Central aired the reruns for a while. It really didn't fit on the network.

Futurama
Simpsons

The Cosby Show (best written because it usually just dealt with everyday life and never had to stoop to doing sex jokes, etc.)

The X-Files - ok, it wasn't a "comedy" but they did have some comedic episodes. And those were great.

please tell me this is the one?

agree with many of the choices here and add WKRP - solid characters, real world situations, taught me about the atom.

I don't know if its necessarily considered a comedy ( I consider it one) but I don't think it gets much better than Weeds.

OK, this brings up a major pet peeve:

'KRP got a lot of undeserved bad reviews in its time, and I often got the impression that the reviewers didn't even watch a single ep all the way thru. Pretty much any review that used the words 'ditzy' or 'dumb blonde' (and there were plenty) to describe Loni's Jennifer Marlowe proved that.

"Hold me closer.....tiny dancer."

OK, if you're going to throw that one out there, I can't see why someone shouldn't toss out Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Wait, I guess I just did.

I'd also throw in Freaks and Geeks. Though it wasn't a straight comedy, it was a very well-written show.

I think my favs are Cheers, Newhart, Frasier, and Seinfeld. There are many others I enjoy but those are the main four that I just love each episode of.
