Question about the different releases of Passion of the Christ

Now there’s the “definitive” edition and there’s the 2004 bare bones release.

Now if I understand correctly from reviews, the "definitive" version is actually a censored version??? And the 2004 release is the full uncensored theatrical version?

Is this correct?

No, that is not correct. The "censored" version is available on the definitive version via seamless branching. The full theatrical version is there on the definitive version as well. The extras are nice, the commentaries are informative, but with the commentaries added, the picture quality isn't quite as good as it is on the barebones release.

Ahh I see. So the definitive has 2 versions you can choose from. The theatrical one and the censored one. While the barebones one has "only" the full theatrical.

And comparing the barebones theatrical VS the definitive theatrical, the barebones theatrical has a better picture.

Right?

Hmm….which to get using the DD sale…

The original disc also has a DTS track which isn't on the Definitive Edition.

How are the subtitles on both versions? I thought I remember someone mention them being 'fixed' on the definitive edition. So were they too small like the PG-13 Pearl Harbor release,or are they at a normal legible font size?

And I thought audio commentaries don't take up much space. So how could they lower the picture quality somewhat?

Darn. Were there any other features not carried over, even a trailer or notes?

Nevermind, I'll go to dvdcompare myself.....

Thanks for the info all.

dvdcompare.net doesn't say much about picture quality or subtitle quality
