My Kid and My Wii-mote destroy my $3,000 TV

So my wife just called me at work (in an effort to soften the blow), told me to sit down, and told me that my son threw "the Nintendo controller" through my 64" HDTV screen. The Wii is the most expensive Next-Gen system out there.

*moving to adult folder*

Did he do it playing a game, or did he do it out of anger on purpose?

Might want to change the title of the thread as it's not accurate. It's my understanding the Wiimote simply did what your son told it to do.

Yeah, they should really put a strap on those.

Yeah, I'll side with the 'there's nothing wrong with the Wii-mote' argument here. The Wii-motes are like guns... Wii-motes don't kill TV's, people kill TV's.

Well, I have some good news. I got home from work at 9:45pm and was out of mental gas. The family was holed up in the living room - Wife, Son, Daughter, and dog. They were watching a small tv on the floor. Everyone was covered with blankets in an effort to protect themselves from me (it was 90 degrees in NY yesturday). Not knowing what to say, and lacking energy I thought it would be best to go to the great room, and watch the Mets highlites. I soon went to bed without looking at the dead horse.
I woke up this morning to find the family slept in the living room together. I ate, and read the box scores from Friday. When I finished I quietly walked down stairs to the basement. I was feeling a pain in my stomach as I flicked the lights on. OK. The screen is not "shattered". I walked closer. Wow. Only the outer protective screen looks damaged. It looked like a windshield does when a stone hits it. I turned it on to see if any real damage had been done. IT WORKS! THANK YOU GOD! I CAN SEE THE SOPRANOS!

So, I now have to find a new outer screen. But aren't they just shiny plexiglass? Maybe Home Depo would have it.?

Anyway, I feel relieved.

The manufacturer of the tv should have a cover replacement.
Just call them and see what they say.

And that's why I have my wii plugged to a SD CRT Tv.

Aww man. I was hoping to read about some fatherly/husbandly beatings being handed out.

He sure makes it sound like even the family dog was expecting it.

I'll post a pic on Mon or Tues as I'm working all weekend. It turns out it was my sons friend who caused the damage, AND he did have the strap on - it broke! I'll include a pic of that also.

While that sucks (glad it's not too bad) I'm more concerned that your family was "hiding" from you. It's just a TV.

I have a pretty expensive television as well but if my son accidentally broke it, I would hope the family wouldn't feel the need to hide from me. The situation just sounded kinda creepy in your description.

Did you have the new thicker straps that Nintendo sent out?

I had the wii-mote slip from my hand once and the strap caught it. I think I was playing Wii Baseball. I don't use the strap for most other games (Zelda, etc.)... but for Wii Sports it's a must.

I replaced mine with the thicker strap. Glad I did. Though.... my tv is only worth about $200.
