Sopranos: How will Tony end up?

Okay, like before with this show I have read all sorts of stuff that is labeled "spoilers" only to find out it's B.S. Kudos to HBO for keeping such a tight lid.

My question, will Tony be alive or dead at the end of the series? Simple as that. Any additions or elaborations as to how may be added on your own.

My thought. Alive, but alone and without anyone. That seems to fit the whole Mafia story we have seen in films such as Goodfellas and Godfather, especially the last two chapters of the latter.

Either alive or dead, I can't see his criminal career continuing. So either dead, or a rat, or locked up forever, it will not end well for him.

As long as Kevin Finnerty doesn't make an appearance.

I vote for a Godfather II/III type denouement. He will win the battle but lose the war.

Tony will lose everything and everyone around him that he values and loves EXCEPT his business interests. He will be the last man standing when ths smoke clears but oh my what a price he'll pay for his victory.

What does a man profit if he gains the world but loses his soul?

That's basically what I'm predicting as well. Nicely put.

He'll live, and Phil will die. But the New York mob will still have a price on his head, so he won't be able to live with his family again.

While not the topic, I am kind of curious what will happen to Paulie. While somewhat of a favorite, he is also the one many viewers wish to finally get his come uppance for his deeds, which most likely means nothing will happen.

It's pretty funny after last week that Paulie of all people is still alive. I love him, but he's such a loose cannon I would've thought he'd be long gone.

As an example of that, I watched Pine Barrens again last night. That whole chain of events could have possibly been averted if Paulie hadn't been a wise-ass by mouthing off and tossing the Russian's remote onto the floor and breaking it. Then again, that's part of his charm .

Sitting by his pool waiting for the ducks to return. Unfortunately, when the ducks do return they'll see Tony emptied the pool and will fly away again.

/\ Quite an interesting observation. I have been saying ever since the show ended its second season that one of the last shots of the series would be the ducks returning.

My guess is that Paulie is in cahoots with Phil (which is why Phil put the kibosh on hitting Paulie and instead suggested Bobby as the third target). I'm guessing Paulie has an Et Tu Brutus moment and ices Tony. But I hope not.

I'm thinking again about the boat trip with Paulie when the episodes started backup--how he still wouldn't admit to telling about the fatlady jokes, and how that rankled Tony. And how Tony might have toyed with the idea of killing him on the boat, but didn't...

I say alive. The perfect ending for me would be for him to walk down the driveway in his bathrobe, get the paper and walk back to the house.

I believe the whole show was about the characters making Identies for themselves. Tony decides to go and testify and goes into the witness protection program and all the identities they have made for themselves are all gone.

The whole show was a dream, and Tony wakes up from an afternoon nap and goes back to his real job in 'waste management.'
