Best additions to an already well established TV show cast?

My choice:

Christopher Lloyd's Reverend Jim "Iggy" Ignatowski on Taxi.

The show improved 100% when they added him and wrote out that forgettable dork from the first season.

Kerr Smith (Jack) on "Dawson's Creek" and Kate Walsh (Addison) to "Grey's Anatomy" wins my vote.

This might be a "jump the shark" moment for many, but I'll go with Nick on Family Ties. The show was great before him and continued to be great. But a few of the best episodes were Nick heavy shows, like his debut and the one where he tries to be like Alex.

I also liked X on the XFiles.

While I personally preferred Nicholas Colasanto and Shelley Long I would think that Kelsey Grammer would definitely have to qualify.

If you consider him to be a cast addition, William H. Macy on Sports Night. I doubt he'd be would have been more than a recurring character even if the show had continued, though.

Not that I dislike Richard L. Brooks, but Jill Hennessy was a very welcome addition to Law & Order if you ask me.

I guess Alexis Denisof to Angel would count, and he'd probably be my winner.

Michael Emerson, Elizabeth Mitchell: LOST

But then they also had some of the worst additions to a well established cast in Rodrigo Santoro and Kiele Sanchez.

Those are all great, but adding Glenn Close a few seasons ago might've been the best addition to any show ever.

I consider Coach, Diane & Frasier Crane to have been part of the original ensemble.
