Where to buy (and see) movies in Montreal?

Hi all,

At the end of this month I'm heading to Quebec for a couple of weeks... will be mainly in Montreal but will be also spending a few nights in Quebec City.
So, I'm wondering if people could recommend some good places for DVD shopping in Montreal? I've been to Canada before (Toronto), but never Quebec, so if people could tell me about big chain stores for music & movies, and also some smaller independent places, that'd be great.
Also, cinema recommendations would be welcome too - I've read about some places such as Excentris & the Cinematheque, but would like to hear peoples' thoughts on good places to go.
I speak French as well as English, so please recommend anything you feel is good regardless of which language!

Thanks a lot in advance,

Dazza.

In Montreal, here's what first comes to my mind :

Chain stores for dvd and music : HMV, Archambault, Music World

For dvd : Metro Video

And there is always Futureshop and Best Buy for both dvd and music if not looking for something too specific.

Most of these stores are on Ste-Catherine St., downtown.

For DVD's that's pretty much it. For arthouse cinema, there's Ex-Centris (now you know where my username comes from, hehehe ), la Cinémathèque, and also Cinéma du Parc, Cinéma ONF, etc... Note that many foreign films (mainly French) also play at the cineplex. Check out cinemamontreal.com for venues/films listings.

Now that I think of it, for DVD's, the best selection of foreign films can probably be found at La Boite Noire. They have 3 stores in Montreal, one is downtown on McGill avenue. UNfortunately, they tend to be rather pricey. They have a website: www.boitenoire.com

They don't yet sell DVD's in strip clubs.

As eXcentris said, the "cool" place to buy and rent DVDs is not Archambault but La Boîte Noire, which has three locations in Montreal:

Téléphone: (514) 287-1249 Télécopieur: (514) 287-1597
Télécopieur pour les collectivités: (514) 287-1032

La Boite Noire
380, Laurier ouest, Outremont, (Québec) H2V 2K7
Téléphone: (514) 277-6979 Télécopieur: (514) 277-5542

La Boite Noire
42, rue McGill, Montréal, Québec, H2Y 4B5
Téléphone: (514) 844-8727 - Télécopieur: (514) 844-2213

and a website: http://www.boitenoire.com/
