Criterion Collection Deals...

does anyone know of a good internet site to get criterion collection stuff at less than MSRP?... i mean the 'jungle' site has them all at 35.99 and the like... thought someone might have the 'hook up' on that...

i have moved and lost my Hastings superstore and Borders - type stores...

getting the wants for the new Dassin release by Criterion of 'Brute Force'... as well as 'Thieves' Highway' and 'Night and the City' which are not yet in my collection...

just found this forum btw... kinda 'gassed' about it...

The most consistently low prices on CC DVDs tend to be at DVDPlanet.

Yep, DVDPlanet is really the only way to go for Criterions. And hopefully they will mirror Deep Discount's 20% off sale like they did last Novemeber, because if they do that will be the cheapest you'll ever be able to find them.

Not so fast...

From the DeepDiscount.com 20% Off Sale June 1 - June 17th thread, post 179.

3 Women
Amarcord
Brute Force
Grey Gardens
Harlan County USA
Kind Hearts And Coronets
Late Spring
My Own Private Idaho (2-Disc Director's Cut)
Naked
Overlord
Playtime
Shoot the Piano Player
Slacker
The Third Man
Tin Drum

A question mark would have been nice.

And for those of us in CA, we have to pay sales tax if we order from Planet.

Like any online store there's always going to be someone who takes issue with / has problems with insert retailer here ________

That said,

I think you'll find that a good majority of DVDTalkers use both DD and DVDPlanet regularly with no problems.

Myself, I've never had a problem and I would absolutely recommend DVDPlanet and DD.

Welcome to the forum... You'll never leave.

Yes, these 2 stores are legit. Both are owned by the same company. Just be aware that DeepDiscount's shipping is very slow because they use media mail for their free shipping. Most people here at DVDTalk have probably ordered from DeepDiscount lots of times.

If you're looking for instant gratification, Barnes and Noble's buy 2 get one free sale (which I believe is on now) is a good way to go, too. Of course, you pay state tax and have to have three titles you want in-stock at the store.

Also, add "The Naked City" to that list of better-than-dvdplanet prices.

Personally, I always use the site www.CriterionDVD.com for two reasons. One is that they accept Paypal, and two, because they always offer free shipping. When I compare DD and this site I always find that this site is a bit cheaper. I've ordered from them a few times, and have never had any issues.

Well right now you will want to use DD because their CC titles are several dollars cheaper right now.

You didn't just "say anything." You shouted, by using all caps. Not the most appropriate way to help someone learn.

DD usually has a couple of dedicated Criterion sales every year - usually 40% off MSRP. I picked up some Kurosawas in March - it usually works out a little better than the 20% sale.

Although, there are exceptions. I noticed Ran & Kagemusha are listed at $28.88 right now @ DD; so that makes it $23.10 for those. Not bad.
