I have to admit that, while this might have been better with original stars Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler, this movie still looks hysterical. Perhaps Ben Stiller needs to limit himself to only doing romantic comedies with the Farrelly Brothers, ever.

EDIT: According to JoBlo it's also an R-rated flick. Thumbs up.

Looks alright. I did chuckle when I realized Stiller's wife in the movie was the religious wife slut from Harold and Kumar, and  to Michelle Monaghan.

Edit: Also, Popcorn (http://www.popcorn-song.com/) (song), f'n awesome! (Brought back childhood memories.... of Pengo).

This looks like a very loose adaptation of the original The Heartbreak Kid with Charles Grodin and Cybill Shepherd. That was the very first movie I saw with my (soon to be) wife 35 years ago.

That's where I recognized the wife from. I couldn't place her.

Without spoiling this, Michelle Monaghan is ridiculously cute and Malin Akerman gets naked. There ya have it. :)

Ok BJacks, does Michelle Monaghan look as great in this one as she did in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang? :)

She's one of my favorite new actresses.

There's a scene where Michelle's playing with some kids in the ocean, and she's wearing a black tank top with matching bikini bottoms...let's just say if you're a heterosexual male you'll be thinking about that for the next week (and even if you're gay, you'll still think she's totally cute). But besides looks, I'd say she's one of the best parts of the film. Not saying the movie is great, but she does her part really well.

Another perfect example of a Hollywood bereft of ideas. The original was perfection -- why remake it? I love those guys, but can't they come up with something new? And not just put a new spin on something old?

Anyone seen this yet? I love Kingpin and Something About Mary, but have really disliked the Farrelly's last few movies.

Stuck on You= :yack:

Somehow I've avoided seeing the trailer for this movie. Only seen a few tv spots for this.
Well, anyway I'm going to see this in about 90 minutes so I guess I'll find out how it is. I've liked all of the Farrelly Bros. films except for Fever Pitch but I also hate Carlos Mencia so I dont know...

I wouldn't mine seeing this, but my dislike of Mencia outweighs any other factor into seeing this film. He's just not funny, and I don't want to watch him on screen for 2 hours doing his put-on accent with a fake moustache.

I agree pretty strongly.

The original is so funny, and dark, and they took outstanding material and made it a platform for Ben Stiller to do awful reaction takes over and over.

The other thing that floors me is the subtext of the original. The lust Jew guys have for the Hot blonde other type. Jewish guy marries Jewish woman, meets hot shiksa and goes to Frigid Minnesota on this ridiculous quest.

In this remake. Jewish guy marries hot blonde, finds she's annoying because she likes to sing to the radio, and slap him during sex, and then meets hot brunette...

Really dumb remake.

I actually liked this movie even though it needed a lot more laughs. I found it to be a very easy film to watch even if The last hour has practically no laughs at all.
So, I'd rank this far above Fever Pitch but below every other Farelly Brothers Movie.

Way better than Shallow Hal and Stuck on You...but I also happened to think Fever Pitch was pretty decent.

Stiller is doing the same old schtick but I liked him, Rob Corddry and Jerry Stiller a lot in this movie. Some very decent laughs and raunchy humour, even if the second half suffers from the inevitable 'dramatic' turn that this type of romantic comedy must take (and of course, extremely predictable ending)...but it has enough laughs to make it worthwhile and anybody who likes Farrelly brothers humour shouldn't be disappointed...and if you see it, stay until the VERY end of the credits...I got a big laugh from that (and not the halfway through credits sequence...the very end).

3.5/5

Quite a few people were walking out of my screening today saying this movie was bad. I thought it was pretty mediocre. Its biggest problem was it just wasnt funny. And who thought putting Jerry Stiller in a jacuzzi with a nude massive breasted via silicone older lady would be funny. Maybe Ben was just giving his Dad a nice little extra. Kudos to everyone for making a film which they would enjoy making. Maybe next time they could add some laughs to it.

The Farrelly Brothers are old news. I subscribe to the Judd Apatow school of comedy.

Holy crap! How did I not know the Farrelly Brothers directed "Fever Pitch"!? Not their typical style. It was an o.k. movie. Would have been better had that no talent Jimmy Fallon not been in it. The original British film was much better.

Too long, too long, too long, too long... I could repeat that all day. There were some drop dead hilarious moments, but it dragged ass so badly in between that it lost all momentum. I also thought there was a big problem with how they positioned Stiller's character. He was just an asshole, plain and simple. I understand that Layla had some skeletons that appeared after they got married, but he was the impulsive one based off of his past problems. As soon as he went around with Miranda while his newlywed wife was laying in bed, it was apparent he was just a shithead. I know we're supposed to sympathize with him because he's Ben Stiller, but I was really hoping he got what he deserved in the end. I've rarely wanted a suppoedly likable character to end up miserable and alone.

I thought it was very funny. Comedies are so dependent upon the crowd at the time too. Very raunchy too which I normally don't care for but this I found myself laughing a lot.

By the way; someone brought an 8 year old kid to the movie. NOT a good idea. It's rated R bonehead

 Sorry, I wrote that sloppily and I meant my then soon to be wife. We have been married more than 34 years.

I don't like much of what the Farrelly brothers have done (I hated There's Something About Mary) but my wife and I have to see it. We are going today.

The guy sitting next to me who had to be in his late 60's almost had a F'n heartattack

halfway through the credits:

We are back at the resort, we hear tons of sex noises and Lila yelling 'Cock me, Cock Me'...then we see her lying in the bed, exhausted from sex - pan over to a DONKEY in a bathrobe standing beside the bed.

After all the credits:
It's 1974 at Eddie's Summer camp. 8 Year old Eddie says goodnight to his bunkmate, who then, making sure Eddie's asleep, pulls out a mirror full of blow and begins snorting it and rubbing his teeth...leading to his deviated septum.

I'm pissed I didnt stay to watch these. I would have if i knew about them.
These scenes sound like they'd be funnier than anything in the film.

My wife and I always stay for the credits. We did not like the first (just too gross) but we thought the second was hilarious.

Caught this last night and i thought it was ok. Some funny moments, and i enjoy the raunchy humor, but overall it seemed to be pretty run of the mill.

I agree about Ben Stiller's character kind of being a dick. Nothing was really his wife's fault and i don't think they made her seem as fucked up as they should have to generate more sympathy for the character of Eddie. The ending just supports it.

Michelle Monaghan was way cute though.

Although the singing would get obnoxious after a while, they should have made her singing voice really terrible, that would have made it more effective.

I used to ride with a guy from work that felt it was neccessary to talk the entire time we were in the car. If there was nothing substantial to discuss, complaining about other drivers was a nice fallback. They drive too fast, they drive too slow, they shouldn't have braked, they should have braked, get out of our way. whatever.

I would take Michelle Monaghan myself. She is more my type. Girl next door yet definite sex appeal.
