Any other games like Sid Meier's Pirates?
I really enjoyed Sid Meier's Pirates when I played it for the PC a couple years ago. Does anybody know of any games that are similar or even better has anyone heard any rumblings of a sequel of any kind? It was a fun, simple game and I really liked the exploration parts of the game.

Are you looking for pirate games or strategy/sim games? I don't know of any other good pirate games. If you are looking for other strategy/sim games, look at Sid Meier's other games, notably the Civilization series. Other good ones include Sim City series, Rollercoaster Tycoon series, Theme Hospital, and Settlers 2 (avoid every Settlers game after the second one because they are all pure crap).
Edited to add: Holy crap! I just remembered the best, bar none, pirate games ever made: The Monkey Island series. How could I have forgotten them? Anyway, the Monkey Island series are not strategy/sim games like Sid Meier's Pirates. Monkey Island is graphic adventure. The first two are very old and you will have to use an emulator to play them since they will not run on modern day PCs.
If you decide to get the Monkey Island series, and you like them, be sure and check out all the other old Lucasarts graphic adventure games:
Maniac Mansion
Day of the Tentacle
Full Throttle
Sam & Max Hit the Road
Grim Fandango
They are all awesome.

The only thing that I can think of, off the top of my head, that's similar to Pirates! is the forthcoming MMO Pirates of the Burning Sea. I've kind of given up on MMO's after getting burned out on WoW, but this game, at least so far, looks really fun.

If you are looking for some old school fun, try Uncharted waters I and II

- Being able to command a 'Ship of the Line', with her 48 cannons that can completely rip apart any ship;
- Being able to take a Ship of the Line down with a much smaller 'Sloop of War' with only 16 cannons (this was very satisfying!);
- Watching enemy pirates fly off their ship with the Grape Shot ;
- Accepting to escort some governor or other political leader safely to another island but then attacking him yourself on the way;
- Putting together clues/maps and setting out on foot to find and dig up buried treasure;
- Hunting down and sword fighting the famous pirates (i.e. Henry Morgan, Bartholomew Roberts, and of course, Blackbeard to name a few) and taking their ship and plunder;
- Going to a Danish town, dancing with the Governor's beautiful daughter and then beating her boyfriend in a sword fight. Then you make her your wife. Then, go to a Spanish town and repeat. Now you've got two wives.
You can tell...I loved this game too. And there's so much more yet not enough. Sacking a town on foot. Sneaking into a town. Finding special relics. Upgrading your warship. Capturing ship specialist to boost certain attributes and so forth. But sorry to say, there's no other game like it.
If Sid Meier ever makes a successor I'll be first in line.

Which I played as well.
It was on a 286 based PC (or something like that).
Most of the colors were blue and maybe there was some pink and some white (if I recall). But it's funny that all I remember were the battles at sea. I can't even remember setting out on foot. Just endless sailing, looking for a ship to attack. I must have been in my early teens then.

I also played a lot of those LucasArts adventure games. Maniac Mansion was my favorite and Grim Fandango had great art direction. That game could have had it's own cartoon series. But I think I played these on an Amiga.
