Okay, sorry for some vagueness, the descriptions suck on some but the UPC is included. Google for more deets. Remember the sale price will (SHOULD) equal $9.99 plus the rebate amount listed. I apologize if I made any mistakes.

Also all DVD's regular priced $14.99 and below are on sale for $9.99 regardless of whether or not they are actually tagged

Hope this helps.

Most stores should have a table set up somewhere in their marketplace advertising these titles. (All of the signage actually says $9.99 after MIR on select titles, but the ones that I listed, except Futurama, are $10.99 after MIR.) Not sure if the pricing will be adjusted to match the signs in the next couple of days. I'll let you guys know of any changes.

This deal should run at least through 6/13, but it may get extended even longer. It should also be good at Coconuts and some other Trans World stores, but I can't say that for sure. I'd call ahead to see if your local store is running the deal.

Today, I finally picked up Seinfeld Season 7 since I had been waiting for a good deal to come along. To give you an idea of the pricing:

I paid $23.99 - 10% Backstage Pass discount = $21.59

$21.59 - $13.00 MIR = $8.59 total!

(I didn't factor the sales tax in, but you get the idea.)

I forgot to mention to make photocopies of your receipts and rebate forms since sometimes they get "lost" in the mail. If you have copies of everything, you should have no trouble receiving your rebates if the ones you send in the mail end up MIA.

And yes, you can use the yellow & white bar code stickers that FYE has on their merchandise so you don't have to cut up your packaging.

I just got back from my lunch break. I went to the mall to eat and stopped in FYE. I saw this deal and I thought there was a catch. maybe the catch is just waiting 3 months for a rebate.

Anyways, what really caught my eye was the martin scorsese box set for 9.99

I got Seinfeld S7 and the Oliver Stoned Ultimate Collection, even though the latter is very questionable to me if it's worth $9.99 AR.

I haven't done any FYE rebates for a while, but last year I bought more than 1 DVD with a rebate in the same week (different movies so different SKUs/UPCs) and the rebate center denied all but 1, and I had a painful and time consuming phone call to get the reps (who sounded like they were in India) to honor the wording which clearly said 1 rebate PER SKU/UPC.

Does anyone know if the rebate center has improved in this regard?

Nor have I. Easy steps for sucess are.

1. Take yellow price sticker and stick on a post it.
2. fill out rebate slip, follow directions, make legible.
3. take reciept marked clearly as "REBATE RECIEPT"
4. photocopy
5. staple reciept, form, post it together with sticker on top.
6. mail
7. wait

Easy to do, I have successfully done dozens just like this without any trouble.

I agree the rebates are a pain in the ass, but it's not that hard to receive them as long as you do everything correctly and make copies of everything. I take it you had a bad experience...

Trans World is actually one of the only music/movie specialty retailers left in the retail business and I don't think they're going belly up anytime soon. As long as shopping malls continue to exist, there will probably always be a Trans World store inside.

The prices are of course higher than a Walmart or Best Buy, but there are usually some occasional deals that are worth sharing and I think this is one of them.

I just picked up the Martin Scorsese Collection and King of Queens S7. The guy there was being a complete and total anus, and made me feel like an ass for asking him about the rebates. I didn't even have a lot of questions, or even dumb ones, just wanted to make sure both were on sale as to not end up spending $80 since nothing was marked down or anything. Of course, not saying anything about the store or any fellow FYE employees, just that one guy. Kurt, you suck.

Anyway, thanks to the original poster. I'll probably check back again before the sale is over.

No offense taken. :)

There are definitely a lot of idiots that work for FYE. Many stores won't even have the promotions set up correctly, so the average customer would have no way of knowing that a deal or sale was even occurring. The nice thing about it is that all of the pricing and rebates are downloaded automatically, so even if the employees are clueless, it doesn't really matter.

Kurt sounds like a tool though. Sorry you had to deal with him.

I had almost the same problem when I asked about rebates, so I walked out of the store. Especially the answer I got was that the rebates were $10, which is not what the original poster stated.

So my question is this: are the Seinfeld sets $24.99 with a $13 rebate, as the OP said, or is the rebate only $10, which is what the FYE employee, who made me feel like a dumbasss for even asking, told me?

Dr. Phibes
05-28-07, 05:39 PM
It should be what the OP said. My rebates show $14 for King of Queens and $11 for the Scorsese set, so I guess it's $13 off for Seinfeld. The guy I had seemed fairly clueless about it too, so your guy probably wasn't sure and just guessed an answer.

I bought Season 7 and it rung up at $23.99 with a $13 rebate. They guys at my store (Jackson, MS) were very friendly but unaware of the sale. As they were ringing it up I told them the rebate would spit out. They were amazed when it did. They were wanting to know how I knew that! :-)

I cannot really complain because the deals that they are offering are great, but they really do not know how to market their sales at all in the store.

They had a table with a sign on the top saying "$9.99 after rebate." I saw a bunch of box sets with their price reduced to about $22.99, which gave me the idea that everything on this table was part of the same deal. I go up to the register and half the things do not print out with a rebate despite being on the table and they can only respond with "I guess they should not be there" and they had a Marlon Brando box set marked specially as $5.99 after rebate, when in fact it really was $9.99. Their employees are clueless about the deal as well. None of them have any idea what is in fact included.

They should just have an entire table of everything market $9.99 after rebate, and only box sets included, should be on that table. It would make it a lot easier on buyers knowing what is included and what is not, and there sales would probably increase as well because people actually would have a clue what price they were paying.

This was true at my local store. There was a display but it was mostly empty. The titles people have mentioned in this thread were in their regular sections.

However, I asked about the sale and they actually showed me a master list of all the titles that were to be included. Something they must get from their home office. It's a pretty huge list. If anybody else goes in ask the clerks if they can show it to you.

Not really, sorry. There was a lot of stuff I didn't even know what it was. Most of what I wanted to get was already posted here. There were a few of the "actor Collection" series (like Barbra Steisand) that was on there but that's all I remember.

Just thought that I would add that the rebate amounts have been corrected from their earlier discrepancies and everything with rebates should now be $9.99 after MIR instead of $10.99 as originally reported. (Seinfeld and KOQ now spit out $14 rebates.)

***There are some other titles that are supposed to be represented on the banquet table that do not have rebates. For example, I noticed the Bill Murray Collection with Ghostbusters, Stripes, and Groundhog Day (slim cases) on sale for $9.99. (No MIR)

It looks like db27 is going to post the full list for you guys tonight because he's the man! I am unfortunately too lazy to do so. :)

You can get one of each on the same reciept, since they are part of the same promotion you will only submit a single rebate reciept. The ending date at this point is 6/13/7 but is as per usual subject to change, so my advice is pull the trigger if anything interests you.

Go back to the store, have them exchange it for itself and the rebate should reprint. Not sure why it would have Sunday, but perhaps they just didn't stick it in your bag.

This is a chainwide sale that crosses the FYE, Coconuts, Suncoast, Sam Goody lines so it should NOT be an issue.

-HM

Seinfeld S7 was stickered at 49.99 and she wouldn't believe me until we scanned it and the rebate printed out. She showed me this huge paper booklet that was supposed to show all the sales for that store and went into an explanation that our store was an urban store or not or a free standing or maybe a Suncoast deal, etc., to explain why she was so sure. I think the problem is not the employees so much as the central management. Anyway, got the $14 rebate and the 23.99 price. So, keep trying.

To verify, I can send in the UPC attached to the little paper episode listing, or the one on the back plastic? I'd much rather do that than cut up the box.

<b>YES</b>

You may send any version of the barcode including the price sticker that says "our price" or the paper piece you speak of, or cut your box (which is crazy!)

Uh, was in a hurry so I sent in my rebate already for Seinfeld S7 and as I was putting the DVD box away, noticed that I was holding S8. There is going to be a rebate (at least on line for preorder) for $24, so now I have to go back and get S7 and send the rebate to the office since it will look like I am getting two season 7 rebates. The thing is, is that the clerk gave me this box because the S7 was a little bent and I was looking for another--so she just grabbed this box and showed me it wasn't bent and then took it to demagnitize it and popped it in my bag. I am surprised. Too bad I didn't notice it--oh well, can't return it since the sticker is gone. I think they both must be gray or something. So, I got the preorder price without having to do the rebate.

All I see is that it would be trouble for her when she was trying to do a good job. It comes out the same (although I wasn't going to be getting S8 so soon) since I won't be getting a rebate on it. The only reason to try to return it is to wait another year or two for a better price. This way it is out of my hair until I have to wait for S9 to come down in price. It was an error that neither of us saw. BTW I have been to the Soup Nazi while he was still actually open, but last weekend went to one of the franchises in NYC and had the lobster bisque, fruit, chocolate, and bread and it was good. Surprised me, too.

If I were placing bets, those employees of saturday matinee have no clue about the rebate sale which seems to be a widespread lack of communication from poor mgmt in stores. Go buy it ring it up, if it doesn't print out, return it.

On the plus side, last week when I was picking up sets from the table, they had Simpsons 8, 9 there. When I noticed no rebate printed out for those two (I had a total of 12 so did not notice right away), I went back and they corrected the prices down to $8.99 for me (BSP).

This might be a stupid question, but since it is a mail-in rebate I'll ask it to all the old pros here.

When writing the address down on an envelope, do you include all of the info up to the P.O. Box number (such as DVD REBATE, TWEC, etc) on one line or spread it out over a couple? Just want to make sure before I email it out myself. Thanks!

Even though some of the titles are old transfers and movie-only editions, I'm surprised the Oliver Stone set isn't receiving more discussions. The last time this set went on sale back in Dec. 2006 during their Deal of the Day for $15AR (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=485537), it was sold out online by mid-afternoon the same day.

King of Queens 1-7 and Will & Grace 1-4 are both part of the deal. The rebates will print automatically. Did you attempt to purchase them? You got lucky with the Simpsons 8 & 9 for $9.99. They are not part of the rebate deal, only seasons 1-6.

Apparently a "no go" at Suncoast... I bought MANY of the titles on this page, and after I paid, there were NO rebates that printed. And as stated above, several titles were $34.99 or more. I'm still going to keep Futurama and Simpsons seasons and a few other things, since with my Backstage Pass and it being my birthday, I got them for $16 each (and had a gift card). Based on this thread, I went to a suncoast (no fye's near me) and bought some of the dvds on the OP's list. Unfortunately, no rebates printed out. Can someone be kind enough to post a scan or a PDF of the rebate forms? I remember from the past fye rebates that such PDFs or scans could be used in place of the original rebate forms. Whoa! Since when can you use the yellow price stickers for the original UPC for the rebate? Have managers or FYE officially stated that this is acceptable for the rebate to save people from cutting up the package?

Why doesn't the rebate form mention this option if it's acceptable?

I have no idea if anything has "officially" been stated in regards to the matter. I do know I have done 12-15 of these rebates over the last couple of years and have NEVER cut out a UPC from a DVD or box set and I have received every single one of the rebates.

I took the price stickers from the plastic (the UPC with title and price, the "on sale", and the 'After Rebate' ones), taped them to a piece of paper, and sent them all in one envelope. We'll see what happens. I made a copy and I still have the 'paper insert' UPC if need be.

Seinfeld - Seasons 1 through 6

Oliver Stone collection

Invisible Man was marked as part of the sale, but I noticed that I didn't get a rebate form for it, so I'll stop back later. Definitely several new titles are being added to the deal for the new planner, but there are a lot that are ending too. Today was the last day for the rebates on several of the titles.

Does anyone know if this 20% off coupon for Friday and Saturday will work on titles that are $9.99 after mail-in rebate?

It sounds like the sale/rebates have been extended on most titles (like King of Queens and Seinfeld), so if one could get each season for $22.99 - 20% off coupon - 10% off Backstage pass - $13 rebate, that would be an even better deal.

Obviously the coupon says not valid in combination with other offers/sales, but then so did the $10 off Best Buy Fox coupon which worked until recently...

Yep, a lot actually. I didn't bring the list but they certainly swapped out a bunch of titles. As previously mentioned Seinfeld, Simpsons, King of Queens, Scorsese, Frankenstein Legacy, and a few others are still on there. However most everything else came off.

New stuff I recall were

Gary Cooper collection
James Stewart Collection
Invisible Man Collection
Tremors attack pack
Mummy Trilogy
Back to the Future Trilogy
Classic Westerns 1 and 2
Beavis and Butthead 1 2 3
McGyver (sp?) Seasons
Laguna Beach 1 and 2
Fall Guy Seasons
Family Guy V4 only
Reba Seasons
Fletch
John Wayne American Icon

Stuff that def came OFF rebate

Futurama
Superman
Oliver Stone
Three Stooges
All the Tin sets

I'll edit this post as I remember or see them.

Are you sure the Fall Guy Seasons isn't a typo? There is only 1 season which just came out and it's selling for over $30 everywhere. I think that would be worth getting for $9.99 AR (even though you think the 20% off coupon won't be combinable), but I find it surprising FYE would discount that set so fast.

Yeah, the Fall Guy stuff is on the list, but I'm not positive that it's $9.99 after MIR. (It lists S1 as well as the two separate volumes of S1. Not sure why the studio released both, possibly to see how much interest there might be for the show.)

However, it may in fact be a higher price point considering that it did just come out last week. I'm working tomorrow, so I'll post what I find out specifically tomorrow night.

I know DB27 is planning on posting the full list but here are some of the titles on the current list: Simpsons S1 thru S9; Fall Guy S1 Complete, Stargate S1-S9, Macgyver S1-S4

I already have Stargate and Simpsons, but I picked up the Fall Guy (with BSP & Rebate $6.29) and Macgyver S2-S4 and two movie sets: Back To The Future Triology (with BSP and Rebate $7.49) and The Brat Pack Movies & Music Collection (with BSP & Rebate $6.49)

I did not see Macgyver S1 or the Peter Sellers Collection but will try to pick up later.

Their list (FYE) does not show prices. But all should be $9.99 after rebate.

On Friday I got the only copy between all of the stores in my area. Maybe FYE is not worried about selling very many copies at this price considering how rare it seems to be in my area. One store said their system doesn't show they have any planned to come, and the other said they didn't know when they'd get new inventory. It's funny how something that's barely been out a few weeks is already under $10. With this, Seinfeld, King of Queens, and others for $9.99 AR at FYE, plus the $9.99 Best Buy Fox TV DVDs last week, I think my max price point for a TV series has just dropped from $20 to $15.

The store couldn't give me a list of what new DVDs had been added to the sale. They just said if it's on the table, then it's on the sale, but of course The Fall Guy was not on the table. If I hadn't seen this thread, I would've never known to ask for it.

That is very strange. I will look into this tomorrow and try and find out from the home office why these are not ringing up correctly. I'll post my findings ASAP.

I found out what the deal is. The ones on the list are the older box sets, the "fat" packs. The new slim case releases don't get the rebate (except season 1 and 9).

Yup. You beat me to it. I doubt many stores still have the ones with the "old" packaging, so it's probably an extreme YMMV. Are you sure the slim case S1 and S9 ring up on sale with the rebate? I could have sworn I checked those today and it didn't spit out a rebate form. Maybe I checked a different season...

I'm sorry, I was thinking I got season one also, but I already have that one. It's season 9 that I got (slim case) and it did come with the rebate slip. It must be right because the UPC on the actual box matches the one on the price tag from FYE.

Oh okay. Maybe S9 works because it was never available in the "old" packaging to begin with. (Just a guess though, I could be incorrect.)

I don't like the FYE mail-in rebates either, but as long as they allow you to send in the yellow UPC/price stickers on the front I don't mind so much. After hearing I could do that a week ago, I asked each manager and a couple employees at each of 3 stores in my area and all of them said they were told using the yellow UPC/price stickers were OK even though the rebate form says "no replications" of the UPC bar code are allowed.

I hope they're right. The last time I called their rebate center, I was not pleased and had trouble understanding the people who worked there (I think the call center might have been in India), so I didn't try calling this time. If there are problems, I wrote down the names and dates of people I talked to, and I'll expect them to fix it. The last rebate I sent was for about $100. I'm used to $10-$30 rebates, so $100 is big to me.

I was wondering if someone could post the address that I needed to send the rebate to since the guy at the checkout counter accidently ripped my rebate form in half because he wasn't paying attention. Also, I bought 2 seasons of family guy, it's alright to send the rebate in one envelope, correct? TIA

Actually I was just at the FYE in The Mall in Louisville, KY on my lunch hour and picked up the fall guy season 1 with the rebate BUT the maggie head did NOT give me a rebate. They told me it was not good on the simpson heads. I did not buy it at that point and only purchased the Fall Guy. Who knows. Looks like it might be a ymmv for some strange reason. Oh and the Fall Guy was not marked in anyway as being part of the rebate deal but did ring up that way.

They have some Fox steelcases as part of this promotion. I saw Die Hard on the table and I bought the 2 disc special edition of Man on Fire for $14.99 with a $5 rebate. I've been looking for a good deal on this title because Columbia House doesn't carry Fox and Fox is exclusively Blu-Ray(it will be a while until I get a BR player). The steelcase sealed the deal.

That reminds me. I also saw a Spiderman 2.1 on the table, but didn't buy it so I'm not positive it has a rebate. There was also a Transporter set.

Weird on the Simpsons Heads. I don't know why it worked in my store, but my rebate receipt explicitly states the UPC on the maggie head.

I just looked and I realize now what happened. For some reason all the Maggie head sets in my store had the yellow UPC Stickers with the UPC # from the regular square box sets. So they scanned that UPC and it printed the rebate. It shows that UPC# on the receipt, and rebate and I sent the yellow UPC sticker in so I'm thinking I'll still get the rebate.

So major YMMV I guess.

FYE is jerking me around with rebates =[

FYE puts more than one rebate on a form automatically - so i sent in a form with 2 rebates.
First they recognize the one for $11. I email and tell them there was one for $15, and they went ahead and fixed it to $26. I checked online to verify and it was fine.
So i get a notice about another rebate I sent in, and check the $26 one again....now it says $15! I emailed and they said only the $15 is valid.
On top of that, I sent two separate envelopes with two forms at the same time - one being the $26, the other being a $13. Seeing as the $26 one was received on 6/7 - the other one must be conveniently 'lost'.
I smell a CC chargeback
Pain in the ass.

Yeah, the yellow sticker should suffice. If they ever deny your rebate for a missing UPC, you just have to call or email them and tell them that you DID include the UPC. They will say that they will process the rebate because you are a "valued customer".

I agree. Normally when a store is having a sale, they are pushing those items to customers. FYE does the opposite. They hide all their sale items on the regular shelf, and if it was not for this site, you'd never find them. If someone has an updated list, or at least know some titles that have not been mentioned on the forum, it would be greatly appreciated.

Picked up W.C. Field Comedy Collection.

I walked in and looked at the table of $9.99 AR, and I was suprised to see Everybody Loves Raymond Season One placed on the table with a sticker attached that says $9.99 AR. I was a little skeptical because I figured that a show of such popularity would have been mentioned by someone in this thread, but I picked it up anyway despite my doubts. A cashier helps me, who clearly thinks that he's too good to work for FYE by his snobbish attitude through the whole process, and I ask if the rebates printed out, and he responds with "uh, yeah, they are all in the bag." As I am leaving the store, I check to see the rebate amount for Everybody Loves Raymond and not to my suprise, I do not see a rebate form in the bag. I go back up, and mention that I never received a rebate for Raymond, and he looks at the reciept and goes "oh, i guess it expired, the computer prints them out automatically, i cannot do anything about it." I instantly ask to return the DVD set as it was mismarked, and then he quickly changes his tune and calls the manager over. The manager comes over, looks at the price sticker, and hands me $15 to make the total $9.99 without rebate. Not too shabby.

Does anyone know how long the rebate deal is going for?? I was going to stop by FYE tomorrow (June 25) and pick up a couple of sets and hope the deal is still going on.

Also to danganet, I've done tons of FYE rebates and have run into problems a few time. I just call them up. Don't bother e-mailing, but give them a call and usually they will just say since your such a "valued customer" they will go ahead and take care of the rebate. The one time a customer service rep told me to fax in the UPC code (it was on the Rocky Balboa Blu Ray, even though the rebate form said I didn't need a UPC), I just called back and got a different rep who took care of it on the spot.

None I'm aware of, and seeing that it is outsourced through parago I'm not sure how that would work out.

Rebates aren't my favorite thing, but I have submitted over 50 of these and never had the slightest problem. Obviously issues will occur, things happen in mailings, or when opening them at the center the barcode could easily just fall out by way of a lazy employee. I can't imagine the mail they go through, what a crappy job.

Anyway, I always <b> staple receipt on back, with rebate slip over it, with yellow UPC sticker (with price, not from box) on a post it. One staple through all three guarantees no way they will get lost.</b>

Since you have done so many I have a question: what's the normal turnaround time that you've seen from mailing in the rebate to having it actually appear on their site so you can confirm delivery and track it? I mailed 4 around the first of June and so far nothing.

truth be told I always got frustrated with that rebate site, often times if you have poor handwriting or what have you they just don't get entered quite right. I usually just log when I send the rebate along with the rebate code on a calandar and wait on the checks to arrive.

I have gotten rebates in 4 weeks, some as long as 12.

I print in all cap block letters, easy to read. I'm just worried if it goes past the mailing deadline they might claim they never received it.

How is everybody mailing theirs, are you just sending it with a stamp, or are you paying extra for certified mail or return receipt, etc?

Are there any threads listing the prices of FYE's new releases each week? I searched and didn't see any. I was going to pass on Shooter until the manager just happened to mention it would be $9.99 AR tomorrow, so now I'll bite. Since FYE doesn't advertise these prices (that I've ever seen) and nobody posts FYE prices in advance, it's only dumb luck when I find out. FYE has been having enough good deals on new releases lately that I think FYE deserves its own ongoing thread.

By the way, with the 20% DVD trade-in bonus going on now, are people able to combine the 25% credit + 10% Backstage pass + 20% bonus for 55% total? I didn't find out until I got home that the employee ignored my backstage pass and only gave me 45%. I called that store later which told me the 10% bonus for the Backstage pass is over, but another store said it isn't. So I'm not sure if it should be 45% or 55%.

We honestly rarely have decent sale prices out of the box, but that is because we don't sell appliances and such like BB or CC that make them loads of profit. Therefore to compete we offer these rebates each week.

Typically we have rebates of $7 on MOST new release DVDs (Bridge to Terebithia is that now) (bigger titles anyway) and usually $10 on TV sets, sometimes we get $5 rebates (like today on Black Snake Moan, and Pride) and rare times like today on SHOOTER we have $10 MIR.

Rebates on New release movies run 2 weeks (from Tuesday to close of business Monday)

If there was interest I would give a shot at maintaining a thread with rebate deals ongoing, but you are correct we do little or no advertising most of the time.

We also usually have a add-on disc with some new releases like Reno 911 which still has a $7 MIR and you can get either Revenge of the Nerds, Date Movie, or The Ringer for $2.99.

Bridge to Terebithia had the live action Peter Pan for $5.99 with purchase.

Shooter you can get Four Brothers for $6.99 with any purchase.

db27, thanks for the info. I didn't realize you worked at FYE. I would very much like to see a thread with current FYE deals. I know on occasion people will post threads listing specific titles after someone notices them in the store. That's nice, but I prefer to make my purchase decisions before I go out Tuesday morning, so knowing the night before (if possible) would really help me!

What we could use is a new thread called something like "Official ongoing FYE new release and rebate specials". It doesn't have to be anything fancy like Speedy's Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target threads. Whenever someone like you knows what new release deals are coming up, adding to the end of that thread would be great. Re-editing the front page each week is more work than needs to done. I'll just bookmark the last page I read.

I know it's arbitrary, but I'd use $15.99 after rebates as the cutoff. Any FYE new release priced above that wouldn't warrant listing, in my opinion, since Circuit City and Best Buy rarely charge more than that. Any time a new release is $19.99 - $7 MIR, it's worth considering, especially after the extra $2 off for the Backstage Pass. Any other specials would be worth listing too.

FYE offers the best DVD trade-in credit in my area, so I often have gift cards and any time a new release is cheaper after rebates at FYE, I'll usually go there (even if it means losing a Circuit City exclusive bonus DVD). Seeing a dedicated FYE thread would be great!

Manzana
06-26-07, 12:35 PM
I thought of one other thing... it would be nice if this thread also listed any current trade-in or purchase specials. For instance, I had no idea there was a 20% used trade-in bonus going on through July 18th, and I would've missed it if the employee hadn't told me about it while trading in some DVDs.

Speaking of trade-ins, db27, since you're a FYE employee, at your store can a person trade-in a DVD and get an extra 25% for taking store credit, 10% for the Backstage Pass, and 20% for the current trade-in bonus promotion for a total of 55%, or is the Backstage Pass not supposed to give 10% for trade-ins? I'm getting different opinions at my local stores, so the 10% Backstage Pass is a YMMV for me. It would be nice to know the official rule.

IIRC, there used to be some type of FYE Rebate thread. The new release list is a great idea, but for me, I'd be more interested in the other deals that FYE offers, like the tremendous deals on their TV DVDs and boxed sets currently going on. They also used to have about 15 older DVDs a month for $4.99 AR. Stuff like that is what would catch my eye.

Hi,

Just picked up The James Stewart Hollywood Legend Collection (Vertigo, Rear Window, Harvey, Winchester '73, Destry Rides Again).

I've been to 3 FYE's and have yet to find The Marx Brothers Silver Screen Collection or The W.C. Field Comedy Collection.

The staff was no help at the first two but the last one, where I got the Stewart Collection, where very helpful and friendly. They ordered both sets for me in hopes that they would get their before the sale ends on the 4th.

Rebate or not, $9.99 for any of these sets is an amazing deal!

The Backstage Pass normally doesn't give 10% for trade-ins. You can go to www.fye.com and look at the terms for the it. There was a promotion advertised through a flyer in store that was an extra 10% with the Backstage Pass, but it might have ended already since the flyer is no longer available and because of the current 20% promotion. The Backstage Pass is good for 10% off NEW purchases, promotion notification, and I think 20% on your birthday.

I was referring to all the people complaining about having to send in rebates. To me sending in rebates is a small price to pay to get some of these box sets for $9.99.

If there was interest I would give a shot at maintaining a thread with rebate deals ongoing, but you are correct we do little or no advertising most of the time.

If you have the time and it's not too much of a nuisance, an FYE-dedicated thread would be awesome! I never shopped at FYE until I realized they had these mail-in rebates. So far I've only sent in one, so hopefully I won't have the negative experience that others have had. But if everything goes smoothly and there are good deals, I'll probably be shopping at FYE more often!

i just received an e-mail from FYE and they actually made note of rebate promos they're running. i perused the list, and like db said earlier, a lot of the new releases are $12.99 after rebate. from the online list, it showed:

$10.99 after rebate:
High School Musical: The Concert

$12.99 after rebate:
Bridge to Terabithia
Reno 911! Movie
Pride
The Abandoned
Miss Potter

Box Sets:
Die Hard Collection (4-Disc) - $32.99, After Rebate: $22.99
Picket Fences Season 1 - $42.99, After Rebate: $32.99
Silver Spoons Season 1 - $22.99, After Rebate: $15.99

since i've never really dealt with FYE, i'm assuming these rebates would be good either online or in-store? here's the link to titles from FYE e-mail:

http://www.fye.com/Movies_stcVVcatId455376VVviewcat.htm?showParamList=release&extId=FYE20070626

anyone know if there's a way to filter through to a list of all the titles with rebates online? i never even noticed they had rebate announcements online.

Seems that interest is warranted, so I'll do my best to get a thread going by next tuesday with deals and such.

The promo you speak of is tricky, in a store like mine we are not doing the extra 20% on top of the standard 25% because my store is a used powerhouse (I'm a Coconuts actually, but all promo's are the same) and we would be losing money doing this deal. The promo is SUPPOSED to be for all stores, however it is one that most of us managers are not fans of because in MANY cases by offering it we are paying the customer MORE than we sell the product for, so that is silly in the business sense. The promo is geared more to stores that are unsuccessful in the USED aspect of the biz. The BSP 10% so far as I'm aware could not be combined on top of the other two promos, but YMMV in regards to that.

Got this e-mail this morning:

"Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience, you are a valued Trans World Entertainment customer, so we are pleased to inform you that we have updated your record. Your rebate submission is now valid. The rebate check should be mailed in the next 4-6 weeks."

So why go through the bullshit of saying the rebate was invalid and sending a postcard? They need to get their head out of their asses.

Anyways, if they try this on you just e-mail them back to get them set straight I guess.

Because most people won't bother following up and that's one less rebate that they have to send out.

In case anyone is interested, the Simpsons season 1-9 sets that were released this week with the free movie ticket are now part of the $9.99 after MIR deal. I picked up the S6 Box to replace my other S6 box with no top on it. (The one you could send away for to replace the Homer head.) This is mostly because I'm OCD about my DVDs, but I figured I could trade in my old set with the head and still come out ahead $$ wise after the MIR. Plus, the free movie ticket is a nice bonus. I probably wouldn't have gone to see it otherwise, but what the hell. :)

S1-S6 are $22.99 with a $13 MIR

S7-S9 are $29.99 with a $20 MIR

Rebates should be good through next Wednesday 7/4, so act fast if you're interested. They may get extended again, but I wouldn't count on it.

Here are some updates before I start a new threadfor ongoing deals.

<b>these $9.99 after MIR deals are done on the fourth (close of business). And the box set table promo is changing to a no rebate BOGO 50% deal, no info on pricing or titles as yet. So as ltrain says, "act fast" if you want any.</b>

USED promo Buy 3 get the 4th Free shall continue, and I believe the all $2.99 or less USED CD's will still be 75% OFF.

Also of note, today some great pricing came down on some titles. The following are all $3.99 through the fourth, perhaps longer.

Chain Reaction
Chase
Escape From New York (1 disc)
Rollerball (remake)
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
Bullworth
Down Periscope
Down with Love
Drive Me crazy
Hot Dog the movie
Life or Something Like it
Married to the Mob
Overboard
Curse of the Pink Panther
Scout
Stuck on You
Throw Momma From the Train
Welcome to Mooseport
The Cutting Edge
Brothers McMullen
Demetrius and the Gladiators
Leviathan
Species 3 Unrated
Supernova
Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie
The Fog SE
Killer Klowns From Outer Space
The Good Son

I'll get that new thread going soon....

Typically pricing goes up from $19.99 to $22.99 the second week of release, not always, but pretty often.

Went to FYE tonight looking for Stargate SG-1 sets. Found:

Season 3 (old set)
Season 5 (old set)
Season 6 (old set)
Season 7 (old set)
Season 9 (new slimcase)

None of these were on the table. I had to get a CSR to check and make sure they were on the rebate list. I would rather have them all as slimcases instead of mixed sizes, but for $9.99 a season I couldn't pass them up. All I need now are seasons 1,2 & 4.

Was out tonight away from home a bit, and stopped in a FYE. They had the Family Guy Vol 4 Gift set on the 9.99 AR table.
No rebate printed out however, and they asked if i still wanted it. I said no, so they returned it. As i was leaving they said they could write out a manual rebate form for me that would work, so i said sure.

After leaving it looks like there was a lot more to fill out then the cashier did(and it says the store has to fill them out, not me), like the promo number etc. I'll most likely have trouble with this rebate, might have to call in the big guns later (AmEx  ) But i wanted the hat and shirt, so i guess its worth the trouble.

You're probably going to have trouble with one of those generic fill-in-the-blank rebate forms. We have them for emergency situations where a rebate doesn't print out for one reason or another, but it's usually for a specific item that the home office knows about.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that the Family Guy V4 gift set fell off rebate after the last period. It was part of the deal for the first batch of titles (when this thread first started), but I noticed that it wasn't part of the list on the more recent incarnation, only the regular V4. Anyway, if you have trouble I would take it up with the specific store and have them refund you the difference since it was clearly marked $9.99 after MIR. It's their fault for not removing the sticker after the sale ended.

Just out of curiousity, will Amex (or other credit card companies) remove the charge from your account even though you did in fact purchase the product from the store? I mean, it's not like someone else stole your card and pretended to be you. Do they have some sort of satisfaction guarantee for purchases? The reason I ask is because I'd seen your earlier post about a possible CC chargeback because they screwed up your rebate amounts. Say it happened several times, wouldn't the CC company become suspicious if you kept reporting the charges as fraudulent?

Are the DVD sets with the simpsons movie tickets clearly marked as such? I bought a set a week or so ago and it had a "Simpsons the movie" sticker on it (it was season 9) so I was hoping for a ticket inside. There was nothing in it when I opened it though. Please give any more info if you have it.

I haven't had to do one yet, so can't say for sure it would work. I've done a partial chargeback on another card that worked so thinking it might have a chance to fly ( that was with dvdsoon when i ordered something, they shipped half of it, and applied the rest to store credit when backordered)

I swore off FYE rebates a few years ago after a number of bad experiences and then a particularly bad one with a Scrubs set, and I had resisted these so far, but $10 for each Simpsons set plus free tickets to the new movie was too good to pass up.

Picked up S4 and S8 yesterday - I now have all the Simpsons seasons I intend to buy - much thanks to the OP and those that kept us updated on this deal.

Any news of new promotions coming regarding "trade ins"?
I was in FYE on Saturday and there were brown paper bags displayed all over the store advertising that there would be an extra 20% given on trades (DVDs, CDs, Video Games). There were also shelf tags all over the place advertising that an extra 10% would be given on trades for reward zone members. I tracked down one of the store managers on duty and wanted verification that the extra 20% + extra 10% get stacked. That store manager went to another store manager and they decided that the answer is "no", just 20%. Next thing I know, all of the "extra 10% for reward zone member" signs are getting pulled. I didn't raise a fuss, since I didn't have any trades with me that day anyway. So, I grabbed a paper bag and started to head out with intent on coming back in the near future with a bag full of trades. I got stopped by one of the store managers and was told that I had to buy something in order to receive a brown paper bag. Apparently, the hundred or so bags that were scattered throughout the store were for "display purposes only" and that the brown paper bags which were meant for the customers were kept behind the counter. Whatever. I was able to read the details that are spelled out on the bags and they even say something like... if your bag is overflowing with trade-ins, just grab another bag - or something of the like. Also, the promotion is good for quite a while - I think 07/17/07. Anyway, I'll probably be stopping in FYE again tomorrow. If I have to buy something (and return it later) in order to get a brown paper bag or two, so be it. Seems more likely, however, that the employees once again don't know what the hell is going on with their promotions...

The bags don't really do anything other than advertise the fact that the store will pay cash or 20% more in store credit for your used merchandise. You could just as easily bring in your stuff in a plastic bag or a backpack and say you want store credit for your trade-ins. That manager sounds like a douche. (Although I could understand his POV if you were grabbing a whole stack of bags and ruining a display, but one? Gimmie a break...)

I know at our store we do give the extra 10% credit on top of the 20% if the customer has a Backstage Pass, but I'm sure some stores aren't stacking the deal. (Even though the signage clearly says "extra 10% credit for BSP members" or something to that effect.) ASFAIK the 20% extra for store credit is a permanent promotion. There is no expiration date.

According to the employee at my local store, it's a promotion that gives you 20% more on your trade ins whether it be for store credit or cash. So, if you were to want store credit, you would receive 25% extra (store credit) + 20% (promotion). Not one or the other.

In order to get the standard extra 25% for store credit, this is true. And you're correct, that seems to be a permanent promotion. In order to receive the additional 20% on top of the standard 25% for store credit, the trades need to be in one of the paper bags. This promotion ends 7/18 and I asked if I could just bring 'em in like I normally do and was told that I would get declined the extra 20% if I did so. Thus far, this appears to be YMMV and depends on what Manager is on duty and how they interpret the current promotion.

My bad. You're right, 25% extra is normal for store credit, but it sounds like this is another promotion that some Trans World stores may be running. It was late when I was reading your post and I misinterpreted the whole part about the additional 20% on top of the standard 25%.

45% or even 55% extra for BSP members would be a great deal if they could get the store to honor it. I have a feeling this promotion with the paper bags only involves select stores because I know our store is not participating and we usually have our shit together when it comes to the promotions. I think db27 had posted earlier that many stores probably won't run the promotion because they would simply be losing $$ by paying out more for items than they can turn around and sell them for.

any store that gets the bags is <b>supposed</b> to be on board with the promo which is a stacked promo, only when the bag is present. However as ltrain pointed out, many mangers (including yours ltrain) are just simply not offering the promo or honoring it. It is VERY easy to explain that its not a stackable promo, most customers don't think twice.

the 25% is an everyday permanent promo, as is the 10% on the BSP.

The $9.99 after MIR deals all end tomorrow (4th) at the close of business. They are not continuing into the next planner period. Instead, FYE is running a different sale that starts on Thursday of buy one box set, get another one for 50% off. I doubt there will be sale pricing on the new titles, so purchasing one set at MSRP and then getting another one for half off MSRP is not a very good deal at all IMHO.

If there's anything that slightly interests you for $9.99 after MIR I would jump on it tomorrow!

It probably got entered into their system twice by mistake. I'd say keep quiet and wait it out. You may end up with $51 in rebate checks and a free Oliver Stone set! (I'd think of it as payback for all the rebates that randomly get "denied" for no apparent reason.) This did happen to me once for a copy of Magnolia from FYE. It was supposed to be $4.99 after MIR, but I ended up receiving two separate checks for $10 each. So I basically got the movie for free, plus an extra $5 to boot. Good luck!

I'm looking forward to your new thread. I couldn't find it now, so I guess you haven't started it yet even though there are a few new releases today (such as The Last Mimzy and The Astronaut Farmer) that are $19.99 before $7 MIR and 10% BP. I think any new releases that work out to less than $15.99 (the BBY and CC typical new release price) after rebate/discounts are worth mentioning in your thread.

Probably nobody is reading this thread any more since the $9.99 AR deals are over. I'm afraid we won't see deals like those very often.

Mods, you can close this thread the deals mentioned have all expired. I'll open a new one soon with current offers.

Or leave it open for people complaining about rebates being rejected. -ptth-

You can find the new thread here (http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showthread.php?t=505670)

Those releases have $5 Mail in Rebates, not $7. At least in store and they are mentioned in the thread, they are the only two active rebates on movies right now. Although there is a $10 MIR on the new UFC 2 pack.

Ah, and of course they're trying to screw me on the rebates. I submitted both rebates and one was valid and one was not because, as the customer service rep told me, you can't submit both rebates in the same envelope.

Of course, trying to submit the same <i>original</i> receipt in two separate envelopes is tough, but I guess how to do that is up to me to figure out.

So it's off to the fax machine to resubmit and see what happens. Friggin rebates.

well, $170 in rebates is now officially in the accepted state.
I anticipate the family guy v4 w/shirt problem, but so far so good. Will be $200 overall if everything goes well.

So far I'm only missing 1 rebate confirmation out of 7. Hopefully it isn't lost. Does anyone know what the procedure is if a rebate was lost in the mail?

if they were both on the same (the rebate listing that is) then you can submit a million in one envelope with only one reciept. However, if they were part of different promos and printed up more than one rebate slip, the register would have automatically given you an extra receipt for each rebate.

Yes, they were the same rebate listing and rebate slip - I didn't even have to tell him my information or who I was. He heard me say "same envelope" and told me that was my problem.

in that case I suspect they were just looking for a problem! cuz if 35 rebates print on the rebate slip, all you need is a single envelope and a single duplicate receipt.

they are a bunch of dumbasses
