'Shrek 3' reviews thread

Anyone seen any yet? RT has it at 67% right now, middling reviews but only a couple of them...

I read that people walked out in the advance screening a few weeks ago (and the movie is about 81-85 minutes long).

Movie times are awful nowadays. 1 hr, 21-25 mins is just cheap. I just wait for the movies to come to DVD and then Blind buy them because going to the theater and wasting 50 bucks is just stupid in my opinion only.
I like TV shows better personally and considering Shrek 3 is about 4 episodes of a fricken' sitcom thats just lazy.
I guess they made it short because kids have a short attention span but still 2hrs really isn't that long considering bringing kids to the theater should be a whole afternoon experience not a 2 & 1 half hr. total deal.
I loved the first 2 shreks but I am not as excited about the third one as i was about the second one.
I hope its good though and can't wait to pick it up on DVD.

Garth from Darkhorizons gives it a "not so glowing" review.

One wonders if it's "bash the sequel" summer for movie reviewers. You would have thought Spider-Man 3 was The Phantom Menace from the trashing it got by mainstream critics, and now it looks like Shrek 3 is the next target...followed shortly, no doubt, by Pirates 3 and Ocean's 13.

As I said in the other thread, the Shrek movies are played out. They've become the "____ Movies" of animation that rely too much on sight gags and parodies instead of it's own story.

I liked the first Shrek when it came out but I didn't like the 2nd one at all. I might check it out eventually but I doubt I would pay to see it, unless it gets really good reviews.

85 - 90 minutes is the standard runtime for US animation, no?

And to veer off-topic somewhat, I've never understood the concept of "Short movie = waste of my money." I'd happily take a tightly edited 85 minute movie that says everything that needs to be said as opposed to the same 85-minute movie surrounded by 20-30 minutes of needless supporting characters, subplots and general filler. Probably why I'll be avoiding Pirates of the Carribean 3 in the theaters (168 minutes, Jesus Christ!).

Shrek 1 was enjoyable. I never realized how much everyone liked Shrek 2, I hated it :/ The shrek movies just seem like they are ingrained with pop culture crap sooo much. 10 years from now, it's gonna be like watching Saved by the Bell.

THANK YOU!

I'm avoiding Shrek the Third because of Shrek 2. Not only were the references really groan-inducing, but the "quest for cash" was in full swing there. Notice all of the corporate placement in it...this is shit that would never be this rampant 20 years ago. Maybe some blaring product placement, but not integrating into another "time and place" (with some exceptions: the Pepsi bottles in Back to the Future II and so on).

Hence why it went on to be the #3 movie of all time: it was made for consumers, who came in masses to see its Middle American glory.

Jesus Christ. They've already got Shrek 4 and 5 in the works along with movies starring the cat and the donkey.

The original Shrek was based on a children's book, right? How many of those books were there?

Oh, and CHUD review is up. Looks like the franchise has jumped the Shrek.
