Robert Rodriguez may do The Jetsons

Robert Rodriguez ("Spy Kids", "Grindhouse") is reportedly interested in Warner Bros. long-planned, live-action bigscreen version of "The Jetsons" Adam F. Goldberg ("Revenge of the Nerds", "Fanboys") is penning a new screenplay and Donald De Line set to produce alongside Denise Di Novi reports the trades.

Storyline will be based on the popular sci-fi animated sitcom which revolved around the four members of the Jetson family, their dog, robotic maid, and the father's temperamental boss.

The studio has been attempting to adapt the animated property into a live-action vehicle for around ten years now with multiple writers having gone through the project.

Let's cast it:

George: Steve Martin or Martin Short
Judy: Hayden Pantierre
Jane: Annette Benning
Elroy: That kid from Two and a half men
Spacely: DeVito or Peter Dinklage

It could be cool, but I want to see Machete before he makes this.

Yeah, I saw this yesterday on RottenTomatoes.com news. Please Robert (or any other director), don't! Does anyone not remember the abomination that was "The Flintstones"??

The first Flinstones was a hit, and I found it quite enjoyable for what it was.

How about Rose McGowan as Judy? Too old, but hey, since when is that a factor?

I guess I should read the super old draft of the Jetsons that I have. I can't say I was too thrilled when I saw some of the VFX designs some 11 years ago.

Sweet! Danny DeVito as Mr. Spacely, Dan Aykroyd as Cogswell Cogs, Paul Giamatti As George...

If William H. Macy was about 10 years younger he'd make a good George. He might still be able to pull it off.

I know, I didn't say it wasn't. It made $130M in the U.S. alone. But it was universally panned. And I don't know a single person (offline) who likes it. You never hear anyone talk about it. Hell, I even heard one TV critic call it "The hit movie no one likes". Nice sets, pretty to look at, but an absolutely terrible script and deadly dull. I took my four year old niece to see it and she fell asleep. Truth!

They have been talking about making a live action "Jetsons" movie for well over 15 years now. The first time I heard someone talking about it, they wanted Chevy Chase to play George and Goldie Hawn to play Jane. The problem with the latest choices, sure, Danny DeVito could pass as Mr. Spacey. And even Aykroyd as Cogswell Cogs. But Paul Giamatti, who I love as an actor, looks nothing like George Jetson.

The 2nd Flintstones was better with Halle Berry.

As for this Jetsons movie, well I have absolutely zero interest but I'm sure someone out there does.

I think Jerry Seinfeld would make a great George Jetson.

I think this is a knee jerk to have another hit film after Grindhouse failing. Which is a shame because it was one of my favorites this year.

Yeah, he once said that he makes movies like Spy Kids and Shark Boy to make easy money to fund his other projects. I'll file the Jetsons under the same catagory and therefore I won't see it.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico was good IMO...

Also, apparently it's between this and Land of the Lost. Robert Rodriguez directing The Jetsons is only second in unusuality to Robert Rodriguez directing a Will Ferrell movie.

Halle Berry was in the first Flinstones wasn't she?

Now I've just remembered the "Sharon Stone" gag with her name in the first one...

Also I liked Once Upon A Time in Mexico too

The Flintstones is actually still talked about (or at least mentioned) quite often in Hungary, where the (dubbed) translation was done by a local poet who decided to do the whole film in rhyming couplets.

I'm not sure if it made the film any better, though. My Hungarian ain't on the level of being able to say, and I'm not all that willing to rewatch the movie, anyway, to be honest.
