MAD TV might be on the chopping block

From Variety:

The renewal of ["Talkshow With Spike Feresten"] makes it more unclear if "Mad TV" will be back. Buzz (including some from inside the show itself) centered earlier this year on if the sketch comedy would bid adieu. That seemed unlikely, as Fox didn't have another show in the wings to pick up "Mad TV's" slot.

But should both sides fail to come to terms, it's possible "Talkshow" will be asked to take over the "Mad TV" spot.

I thought this show still attracted the 18-49 audience. I like MadTV over SNL most of the time but the writing has been much weaker lately. And there have been fewer stadouts in the cast. My favorite now is Bobby Lee.

Bobby Lee is the only person that I would miss...he's hilarious. Would be a great addition to SNL.

Why the hell did they renew Spike Feresten's talk show?

Scattered HILARIOUS moments, but this is one of MadTV's weakest seasons. It's been quite some time that I felt MadTV was worse than SNL. The ditzy twins Arden and Crista, Nicole Johnson, Keegan Michael Key's Coach Hines, and Bobby Lee's Korean soap were hardly amusing. Still, FOX would be making a wrong move if they let this one go.

I hope that it sticks around. I still watch it. It's consistently funnier than SNL.

Wow. I didn't even know this show was still on the air.

Last time I watched it was when Miss Swan was the be all end all of sketches.

I like MAD TV more than SNL too but a lot of the funnier people have gone.

I loved the last 2 seasons, this one has been pretty weak though. I have never gotten past 5 minute of Spike's show.

Although the show has jumped the shark with it's glory days behind it. It's still probably the funniest sketch comedy on TV. I wish they would start releasing the seasons on dvd again.

I love MadTv, its got its up and down moments, but for the most part pretty entertaining. SNL is garbage.

As for the cast, besides Bobby Lee, Ike Bearenholtz and Crista Flanagan, everybody else is pretty weak. I do have a big crush on Arden though

I think MadTv is much stronger when it sticks with more of the "real life" comedy skits vs the parody or regular skits they do.

A few that come to mind is when Bobby and Crista are trying to fast, crazy funny!

Bobby eating the deodorant stick!

MadTV strikes up a nice balance, but I think they have more success with parodies/spoofs. Most recently, their parodies of COLD CASE & Medium (with Crista as the snaggletoothed Patricia Arquette) were gold! And longtime fans of the show should agree that Debra Wilson's OPRAH is legend!! Other than Oprah, no one else does her better than Debra:
