one that is very recent and already climbing in prices is "Scissor Sisters Remixed!". They only printed a limited quantity of it in mid-2004 in Europe right before they really exploded in popularity there, so if you do luck into a copy, it'll set you back at least $20-30

Amazon and eBay. Of course, I know those aren't 'concrete' prices, but they're a good indication of how rare things are.

Actually, your discovery is kind of why I made this thread. So the next time I'm walking through a used CD store, I have a few I'm looking for. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky.

A whole bunch of old Tori Amos singles including the limited versions of Silent All These Years, Crucify, Cornflake Girl and Past the Mission. All four of these have b-sides or live versions of songs which can't be found (officially) anywhere else.

Then there's the holy grail of Tori Amos items - Y Kant Tori Read, with her band from the 80s. I remember reading 10 years ago that a sealed copy of this CD, still in its longbox, was sold for $500. If you check the marketplace prices at Amazon.com, you'll see ridiculous prices listed for versions of this disc with 16 tracks- including bonus tracks from later in her career. Those are BOOTLEG versions. The only official version of this disc had only the 10 tracks and the cheapest version listed at Amazon that specifically states it's the original, not the boot, is listed at 599.99.

I have:

...a copy of Jimi Hendrix "Live at Winterland" which I think is worth around $70. Awesome live album and really hard to find.

...all of Swervedriver's albums including a import-only copy of "Ejector Seat Reservation" (which is probably their best album). I think they go for between $40 and $60 each on Ebay. One of the most underrated bands of the 90s, IMO.

...a copy of Rhino's "Cowabunga" boxed set. I think it goes for around $175.

I recently got 175 bucks for Kid Rocks "Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp". I think I paid 2.99 for it back in the day and listened to it once. I think it was worth the investment.

Does anyone know when a lot of Van Morrison's albums like Tupelo Honey, etc. will come back into print? I don't want to pay $20-25 for them on Ebay.

I've never seen Bernie Taupin's "Tribe" for less than $50 on cd. I've got it on vinyl, and a... "version" of it on cd from a friend. It's very 80's, but I love it. It really needs a new release on cd (with b-sides!).

I recently bought a Best of Terri Gibbs CD for $1 and turned around and sold it for $65.
That helped me buy my DVDR (with 80GB drive) for $120 new, Wally World had it for $219.

There are several Prince-related albums whose CDs usually fetch high prices on eBay. The Family's s/t album from 1985, Vanity 6, Apollonia 6, Jill Jones, both Madhouse albums. There's also Tommy Shaw's "Girls With Guns", Martin Briley's "One Night With A Stranger", and as mentioned in a previous thread, several MFSL gold CDs. I have Queen's "Night At The Opera" and "Day At The Races", and I've been wanting the Pink Floyd "The Wall" gold disc, but right now I can't afford the $365 that a sealed longbox is currently going for.

EDIT: Holy crap! There's a gold disc of "Dark Side Of The Moon" going for over $500 right now!

Really? I've got that! I've also got a gold disc "Wish you Were Here" which I think is worth some bucks.

Looked at the auction, it's mint and sealed...

There's that Sigur Ros Recycle disc, Von Brigdi. It goes for anywhere between $50-80 from the various sources.

I've never been able to find a copy of Han Zimmer's score to Days of Thunder. Best I could find is that it mya only have come out in German as a demo.

Sad sad sad, this far into this thread without a mention of the Traveling Wilburys...

Of course, that's about to change...

Marvelous 3 - Hey Album

it was later released but the original version has different mixes of the song, and two songs that weren't released on the re-release, Hey! Album. (Notice the exclamation mark on the latter title.)

The two unreleased songs would later resurface on other albums, "Fasboat" in the Japanese release of Hey! Album, as a bonus track, and "Cold as Hell" on their 3d full length album.

The original cd, which has a different cover than the re-release, fetches over a $100 now on ebay. I bought mine for $70 because I wanted it bad enough. I wouldn't part with mine, however, even if it goes for $200 later on.

The only ones I can think off are both by Coldplay. One is Mince Spies which was a 2-track CD consisting of a Christmas song and a below-average remix of "Yellow" -- the Christmas song eventually made it on some Christmas compilation albums. This fetches between $100 - $200. Only 1000 were ever made.

The other one is Coldplay's Safety EP. Only 500 were made and only a small handful of those ever made it into shops. The last time I saw it on eBay it went for over $1000 and this was before their second album came out. For all intents and purposes, it is impossible to find. The songs in here eventually appeared on other EPs. One of those, Blue Room, still fetches $50-$100.

I have the Blue Room EP and Mince Spies. If I ever run across a real copy of the Safety EP I might buy it, but it doesn't really have any new songs so I'd just be paying for some plastic and paper.

Better sell your rare stuff soon:

(I really hope these bills don't spread to all states and/or Ebay).

I've always wondered why its okay to sell and buy used cds but it's not okay to copy. When you buy/sell used the artists/record companies, etc. don't get paid.

The most I've ever paid for a used CD was Chagall Guevara's self-titled debut, or as it turned out, their only CD. They were made up of some well-known CCM musicians in the 80's, but turned out a very good hard rock CD. I paid 30 bucks for it back in 1999.
