The Movie was not endorsed by the Navy because Seals are Sailors not G.I.s

Todd's review mentions that the film is formulaic. I'd point out that it's so formulaic that the script was basically recycled from Top Gun, just substituting a woman in the Tom Cruise role.

This is one of Ridley Scott's less focused efforts. It's certainly as slick looking as anything he's ever done, it is indeed a drawn out formula by-the-numbers flick. Still stumps me that now it's on Blu Ray, they would think to add at least the same features that was on the laserdisc, deleted scenes, alternate beginning, and commentary by Scott. He does get somewhat in depth about the whole fiasco about not getting endorsed by the military. It's a great commentary to a so-so movie.
