Dexter: The First Season ----> 8/21/07

From dvdtimes.co.uk:

Dexter Season 1 (R1) in August

Paramount Home Entertainment have announced the Region 1 DVD release of Dexter: The First Season on 21st August 2007. Dexter is based on the compelling novel "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay. Orphaned at the age of four and harbouring a traumatic secret, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is adopted by a police officer who recognizes Dexter's homicidal tendencies and guides his son to channel his gruesome passion for human vivisection in a constructive way - by killing those heinous perpetrators that are above the law or who have slipped through the cracks of justice. A respected member of the police force, a perfect gentleman and a man with a soft spot for children, it's hard not to like Dexter. Although his drive to kill is unflinching, he struggles to emulate normal emotions he doesn't feel, and to keep up his appearance as a caring, socially responsible human being.

Showtime’s hit new drama series comes to DVD with all 12 one-hour episodes spread across four-discs with extras that include:
2 Audio Commentaries by the Cast
The Academy of Blood – A Killer Course!
N Technology:
Free Showtime Series Episodic Download
Consumer Sweepstakes for a Sony HD Television & More
2 episodes of Showtime’s “Brotherhood”

Not a fan of the cover art, but will probably pick this up in anticipation of season 2.

A friend of mine is obsessed with this show. I might check it out from Netflix or something.

Great news! I watched the first episode on On Demand after the season run was over, and wound up spending the next 11 hours watching the whole season in one day. I think The Wire is the only other show that has had that effect on me.

However, I'm not wild about the bonus features. While I'm all for promoting other good shows, which the first season of Brotherhood was, I don't like the idea of putting it on the bonus features of another show. I'd prefer if it came attatched as a bonus disc on the outside of the package.

Other than that, looking forward to this release, and more importantly looking forward to Season 2!

Weird extras. Hopefully more will be added, like more commentaries, BTS stuff, deleted scenes, etc.

2 episodes of Showtime’s “Brotherhood”
That's...really weird. I mean, I understand Showtime wanted to promote another show, but still, I'd rather have more Dexter-related extras. (Plus, isn't putting 14 hour-long episodes of premium channel shows, along with extras, on 4 DVD's kinda pushing it, as far as compression goes?)

Still looking forward to this set, though. Dexter's a great show.

Fantastic news! I'm one of those folks that obsessed about the show and would tell every friend that I know to watch it.

I loved it in HD (I literally watched the opening sequence in awe with each episode).

With that stated, I have to hold out and hope for an eventual BD release.....I have Weeds S1 preordered now, so there is hope.

I'll talk about the release SO much that my friends will rent it, then buy it

Great show.

I'm not one that's obsessed with the show but I really enjoyed S1. It's a great show with a great cast. It's definitely one that hooks you and pulls you in.

This series is the epitome of perfect episodic television. A complete, succinct storyline fully explored and resolved in a 12 episode arc with enough tantalizing subplots to enable future seasons. I have all the episodes recorded on my DVR but it will be nice to get the DVDs. I think it's time to watch these again.

Maybe next we will get the DRESDEN FILES. The series is fine, but the JIM BUTCHER book are great.

This show was beautiful in HD - those Miami shoreline vistas looked great. Wonder how this will stand up on SD.

Since it's Paramount, I'm so hoping for an HD-DVD/Blu-ray release as well.

Good news, great series. I loved it when it aired. I hope its priced right. Does Showtime usually price their seasons as high as HBO? I won't pay 50 or more.
In fact, this is a definate buy at $39.99, but no higher. I doubt it though.

Showtime prices their shows quite cheap in fact...I bought Brotherhood Season 1 for 20 bucks. That season is as long or longer than the Dexter season so it will be cheap..Also their Sleeper Cell seasons are priced about 20 bucks also...
IMO Showtime is alot better than HBO with their shows and their dvds....

Well interesting. This means I can catch up before the 2nd season airs (assuming it starts in October again this year). With The Sopranos gone, maybe it is time to move my subscription to Showtime....

I've never seen this but I'm a big fan of the lead, he was great in Six Feet Under. I'll bite too if it's

No deleted scenes? More featurettes? Damn, I can't talk. The first season is stellar, and while you could see the twist coming long in advance, it was thrilling stuff. This, along with Heroes, are the two TV sets I'm likely to buy this year.

I immediately thought the same thing. I had just finished reading a thread about how many people want Dexter's Lab on DVD, and I saw this and got excited. I forgot there was a serial killer show called Dexter.

Fantastic

This is one of the best shows on television. The acting is great. Dexter says more with a look than most actors say with an entire monlogue. If you haven't seen this, please give it a try.

You know we are talking about the Showtime series, not the Cartoon Network show, right?

Can't wait for this. Didn't think I'd want the DVD after seeing all the episodes already but I will get this. It made me want to get the book, which I am almost done reading!
