Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Classic cartoon) - thoughts/question
Hey,
I recently got Vol 3 of the old school series and watched it (also got Volume 4 now) and really rather enjoyed it
Raphael's one liners made me smile, and though the emphasis of the 80's show is more on comedy/goofy humour (so its a bit silly at times) it's still good fun.
Now I'm older I get jokes I didnt get when I was younger (I doubt any young kid at the time in 1989 would have gotten the Apocolypse Now joke ("I love the smell of lasers in the morning") or the Sam Spade take-off. There were many other jokes that "broke the fourth wall" though.
I noticed on some episodes, at various points (say on a cliffhanger) the screen would go black on the DVD, and this never happened when I saw the censored UK version on TV.
Did it only happen on US TV (so it could git into 1/2 hour or something)?

It sounds like that is where a commercial would go. Not sure how commercials are handled in England but for the US, most 1/2 hour shows would have 2-3 commercial breaks during the show. Usually right before each one, it would have sort of a cliffhanger or some revalation that the viewer would want to know the answer to but had to wait until the commericals were over. Maybe when Endland aired it, since the didn't put a commerical in there, the cut out a few frames of the show going to black.

Yeah, that sounds about right It aired on the BBC channels in England, which have no commercials.
Strangely, although the UK version is still censored - I guess no one can be bothered reclassifying it (HERO Turtles, no "n" word, censored title sequence, no nanchucks etc) in the UK title sequence you can clearly see Mike holding his nanchucks if you look closely (near the end). I guess they couldn't cut that bit.
