House - "House Training" -4/24/07

"House Training"
Spoiler:
When a young scam-artist passes out while working a card-playing scheme, Foreman suspects her condition stems from drug abuse; Cuddy and Wilson go on a date to an art exhibit.

I missed the first 30 minutes, and the last 30 were just fucking depressing.

Depressing but very good and humanized Forman loved the episode, and if I wasn't already hooked I would be now.

Quite the downer of an episode.

The Foreman/Wilson part was very good.

They've had patients die, but never as a direct result of the choices they made to try to cure them. For example, when Foreman got really sick in season 2, the police officer who had the same disease before Foreman died because they didn't figure out the cure in time. Tonight's patient died solely because the choice of doing radiation killed the immune system needed to kill the infection.

Didn't Chase get in some trouble for a decision that adversely effected a patient? I think it was last year... So, I would think Foreman might be in some trouble, right?

Yeah I forgot about that. He forgot to do a certain test on a woman who was experiencing stomach problems, if I'm remembering correctly. I guess I was talking about the differential diagnosis process the team goes through; Chase's screwup occurred during clinic duty.

That's what I was thinking. Does malpractice play into this? I mean they aggressively treated her for cancer that she never had.

It would be nice if they followed up on this episode at some point in the future.

But she seemed to intimate that she had no relatives. So who'd be suing?

They still didn't want to pin this one on House though, Foreman took the fall.

Some good moments with Foreman and his Mom though, and its always good to see Roc back in the house!

IIRC, Chase's problem was based on the idea that he was hungover and 'wanted her out of there' because of his pounding headache and dind't follow through.

This is something completely different where they were still trying to do the best thing based on what they thought the diagnosis and treatment were.

In the first season, a baby died that had been infected from a hospital stuffed animal as well. There's probably been another 1 or 2 that I can't remember.

Huge Ego, Sorry!

Good episode just to have something that has never happened happen. Now get back to the regular stuff. But either way, I'll be watching.

The Foreman episodes are generally my favorite and this one didn't disappoint. Real downer of a episode.

I think the problem was that I watched AI: Gives Back, and then this downer of a House episode, it just made for an overall depressing night on Fox.

It looks like the next 2 eps will deal heavily with this.

Right up until the very end I thought House was going to figure something out and save her... I was actually quite shocked when she died.

Excellent show!

It's only the 4th ep I've seen (3 latest and 1 repeat), but I thought the same way you did.

They've lost numerous patients over the years, but they can't let it go too often for obvious reasons. Still, depressing.

And the one where Chase went under review was about
Spoiler:
his father passing away and him being distraught, though he tells the woman's brother otherwise to give them cause to sue the hospital and make some money. Since most of the episode takes place in flashback, you don't see Chase going through the same phases of distraught guilt. The woman died of liver cancer after hers failed due to a perforated ulcer which went undetected since Chase neglected to follow up when she seemed like she was trying to ask something. Her brother forged some papers and was allowed to be her donor, but had hep C (or already had cancer) which quickly became cancer in the woman's weakened body.

I really thought Hugh Laurie did a great job with the scene where he wanted to perform the procedure on the girl before she died, but Foreman convinced him to wait.

Foreman kind of reprimemanded House.

Like you are not going to do that, and if you are going to try, I am going to stop you.
