View Full Version : Buck Rogers in the 25th Century complete series $19.81 at DDD

This set is $65-$75 everywhere else. It looks like it may be a price change, rather than an error since DDD lists it as an upcoming release.

These have probably been sitting in their warehouse for a while. I'd be afraid to see what kind of condition they arrive in.

Looks like 5/22/07 is the effective price-drop date. I may just wait and see if I can find one in a B&M. Wal-Mart will probably have it for $19.96.

So does anyone know what the new MSRP will be?
DDD stating, "Why pay: $26.95?" cannot be correct, can it?
And if it will be that low, then this (DDD) price might not be such a bargain after all.

This is one of those ones I watched and enjoyed greatly as a kid. I have no idea if I'd enjoy it today.

But at this price, it may be worth the chance. When it first came out, I would've bought it, but the price kept me away.

For Erin Gray in skin tight shiny jump suits, it's worth $20.

I went to order this; but it says on the product page that it is a "preorder" that will ship on 5/22/07. Is this possibly a newer version that is coming out with different packaging? i would like to get one but if I have to wait until 5/22, the price may drop lower than that somewhere else in the meantime.

No, it was the 3rd season when it "jumped the shark" (http://www.jumptheshark.com/topic/sliders-general-comments/1808)... Rhys Davies left about 2/3 way through the 3rd season in "The Exodus: Pt. 2" when Arturo was killed and Maggie Beckett, played by Kari Wuhrer, was introduced. John Rhys-Davies was fired from Sliders by the producers to bring in a younger, sexier, female character in an attempt to raise the ratings with teenage/young adult males.

I doubt this is a true "re-release" with a new box... probably just a new price. That box is pretty badly designed... While it doesn't appear to scratch the disks and does hold them well it's a bit of a pain to get the disks back into it and the "cover" is difficult to reinsert. I expect the foam holding the disks to disentigrate after a few years too... but I found this:

http://www.earthprime.com/dvds/sliders-season-1-dvds.html

It talks about the "Dual Dimension" set but if you go to the bottom of the page there are links to actual box art for the rental market. These can be printed and put on regular boxes allowing you to do your own repackage of the S1&2 set.

Yeah, but that would end up being even wider than the original box. I'm also concerned about shelf space.

Those two films were only released a couple of months apart in the summer of '79. It's more likely that they were *both* going for the "James Bond meets Han Solo" vibe. It's just that one of them actually had Bond in it. ;)

For my 'Sliders' box, I pulled out the foam, and put the discs in some nice CD cases that slid into the box. The clear plastic part of the box still fits over them.

CD cases come in slightly different sizes - if you do this, just make sure they will fit into the sliders box.

I'm more inclined to go with Sliders than Buck Rogers.

While I still enjoy original Battlestar Galactica, from the clips I saw on You Tube, Rogers seems horribly, horribly cheesy and dated.

Now Sliders... I remember really getting into that show and watching it regularly. I don't think I saw how it ended. I remember not liking when they got rid of Arturo - I loved the character. I guess at some point I just lost interest.

That said, is it OK to buy just S1/2? Arturo goes early in S3, right, so I may want to skip that, and save the cash. I just hope I won't feel too left hanging at the end of S2.

Has anyone seen Sliders in-store for this price? Would make buying it easier.

There was also some advertising insert in there that looked like it had been manhandled. Obviously, I am not concerned about the advertising, but it made me curious to know exactly why these were marked down so low...Did they get defectives back and they put new discs in them and re-distributed them?

Thankfully my wife watched the show as well as a kid so she enjoyed it with me. So far I have only watched the pilot, but we are going to watch more of it this weekend. Its easier when you get the nostalgia. My son watched about 5 minutes and left the room shaking his head.

Is this a universal and not temporary price drop and maybe it will be available at this price +20% off for the DDD sale coming up?

They should have done a limited edition Twiki head!

I had hoped it would come in a Dr. Theopolis case

The words/opening sequence to the theme song in the pilot episode/movie are rediculous! I didn't remember them as a kid...

If the series was more like the opening titles of the movie, the series probably would have lasted 10 years.

Went to two other Wal-Marts and found this one is the first to disappear off the new TV series endcap. I got the last one for $19.96 from the Ceres, CA store.

:hairpull: ..and then almost immediately find I overpaid due to the sudden DD sale.

Update: Has the booklet but also a crack in disc one...

They may have stopped including a booklet for newer pressings (like they did with Back to the Future), but this absolutely came with a booklet originally.

I bought this on release day (for about 4x what you can get it for now at the DD sale)... and I have a booklet.

Got mine at Wal-Mart for $19.96. I didn't even know it was reduced this low. Sure glad I didn't buy it when it was first released. Mine came with the booklet.

Too bad Paramount doesn't sell the Star Trek series at this price. They would fly off the shelves if they did.

I thought I would be bored with it because its so out-dated, but I'm almost done with the first disk and must say the humor and stories still hold up.

Funniest thing is the fight scenes when they put in the stunt double for Buck. There's some obvious face shots that are just laughable. Especially in the Vegas episode.

Erin Gray has aged gracefully.
I wonder what this women looks like now.
Gil still looks good.
I saw Lynda Carter on Smallville last week.

Gil Gerard looks 100. He must have gained 200 lbs from thoe days. Check this out Gil Gerard (http://www.darkwhispi.net/albums/album05/Gil_Gerard.jpg)

Hey, they were in the atmosphere at the time. The sky is blue. No need to add anything to it.

;)

Actually the FX guys were too distracted by Markie Post in red spandex to finish the shot. Can't say I blame them.

Don't feel too bad if you didn't get a booklet. It's really more of a pamphlet - a 4 page foldout of titles & single sentence descriptions of all the episodes with some tiny photos (mostly of the fabulous babes) on the top & bottom about the size of the pics on the back of the case. The front is the same Buck-Wilma-Twiki painting as the front of the packaging & the back is an ad for other shows. Disappointing.

I'm a sad fellow. I took one look at the pix and knew who it was. What spoils it now is knowing that she has a loose bladder. Might have been Leno where she let that bit of unnecessary info slip by.

I think he recently had gastric bypass surgery so hopefully he looks a little better now. I was shocked when I saw him at SDCC.

Earlier this year, Discover Health channel aired a documentary about Gil Gerard's weight and health issues. The program was called "Action Hero Makeover," and they followed him before, during, and after his surgery. There are links on his fansite to some YouTube promo spots for the program (scroll down thru the 'News'), as well as several pictures.

Well, I finally got my set and am now up to season 2.

WTF were they thinking? They changed the show so radically, boy does it suck hard now. Mel Blank doesn't even voice Twikie anymore, the voice actor they use doesn't even come close. Lame.

I have a 5mb pdf scan that you'll need to cut the white space from--you could probably size it on you monitor and printscreen and paste into something else to print, but as it is, it's just a very high quality scan that needs some editing....I can email to anyone who requests it....
