So Disturbia will finish the weekend #1 again while Fracture will probabably get around $12m and Vacancy around $10m, does that sound about right?

yep, sounds about right...
Nice to see Hot Fuzz do ok in as as many screens as it is in...
Also, i am always happy to see a Meg Ryan movie bomb....

Still very depressed about Grindhouse numbers espescially since Disturbia is doing better than it but oh well....
People like short PG-13 movies i guess.

I would guess Vacancy would end up with about 7-8 million or so, which isn't that good. I thought the trailer looked great, but it didn't inspire me to go out and see it so I guess I shouldn't be surprised at that total.

Horror is in a box office funk, that's for sure. I thought Grindhouse would pull it out, but I was quite wrong on that. Some horror movie besides Saw 4 has to make money this year, right?

I think people are getting enough horror from the news right now whether it be Virgina Tech or Iraq or something else. When they go to the movies you want an escape from that not more of it.

Saw 4, Zombie's Halloween, and Hostel II will make horror money.

I think it might be a bit deeper than that, otherwise the Meg Ryan movie that you're glad to see is bombing would be cleaning up nicely. It's shorter than Disturbia.

These numbers must be pissing off some studio exc. that these horror movies are making money and GRINDHOUSE didn't make crap. As I stated before they should have advertized
GRINDHOUSE as a zombie horror flick instead of some goofy action chick flick.

probably because people like me who don't like horror movies or pyscho killer/thriller movies, you don't see grindhouse doing as well, even with quentin directing. of the movies in the top 10, i will probably see hot fuzz and already saw blades of glory.

With how great the film is and how strong the cult following Shaun of the Dead has, I was hoping Hot Fuzz would pull in more money. Maybe not Borat money, but somewhere around $5 million for Friday (not $2 million).

The few predictions I had seen for Hot Fuzz had it in the 4-5 million dollar range for the weekend.

Considering that it is only on 825 screens, I think it is doing very well.

Yeah, given that its competition is a slew of Hollywood blockbusters with big-name stars on thousands more screens, Hot Fuzz is kicking ass and taking names.

This shit is just dismal. I guess it indicates that high school students are a huge chunk of the ticket-buying audience.

Yes, they always have been. Its just starts to become sadder the further away you get from teenage years.

I completely disagree.

Shaun of the Dead did about $2 million less on it's opening weekend three years ago. Given the popularity Shaun has gained over the years due to DVD sales, in addition to the numerous airings on Cinemax and HBO, Hot Fuzz should've done more than $5 million it's weekend -- especially given the fact both films were released with similar opening screen counts (Shaun was in about 150 less screens). When I saw Hot Fuzz after work on Friday night, there were about 30 people in the theater tops. However, it was a step-up from when I saw Shaun of the Dead on it's opening night and there was only about 15.

What you people fail to get is that Borat did $30 million on it's opening weekend on the same amount of screens less than six months ago. Now I do realize that Hot Fuzz did not have the buzz that that film had, but it's got a respectable cult audience already established (or so I thought) along with positive reviews and word of mouth already out the gate. For Christ's sake, Wright, Pegg, and Frost went to major cities promoting the shit out of this film!

Hot Fuzz should've done double this weekend. Now I know Universal doesn't give a shit one way or the other as it's already made $80 million in the UK alone, but this is a film that could've and should've done better by all means.

Do I think it'll have legs? Yes. Shaun of the Dead was able to make nearly $15 million domestically after an opening weekend of barely $4 million, but this is a film that should be making at least $30 million domestically once all is said and done, not $15-20.

Didn't do great but it goes to show its selling better in some markets than others (it was sold out here), that said, I'm pissed its playing in the shitty art house theater instead of the comfortable ones.

I don't know about Hostel 2. The trailer is getting poor word of mouth. Hell, the first film wasn't a blockbuster. It did fine, but nowhere near what Saw has been pulling off.

Hostel 2 could very well come in under the first movie's 47 million and finish in the 30's. Not bad considering the budget, but nothing to get excited about.

--------------

Grindhouse wasn't marketed as a Horror film at all. Seriously, it looked like awful Dukes of Hazzard leftovers crossed with cheesy sci fi on the tv ad's. The movie was fine, but the advertising was horrendous imo. Not lack of advertising, but the way they advertised it.

They should have gave a clear focus and included shots of the trailers too.

--------------

I enjoyed Disturbia in the Lifetime rainy day movie sort of way. Seriously, it did remind me of a Lifetime movie that went theatrical. But, it wasn't horrible.
