Smokin' Aces: A Good Blind Buy?

I noticed that this is due out tomorrow. I like Snatch, Lock Stock & 2, Go, Tarantino films, etc., so would this be a good blind buy?

Based off of those movie preferences, I would say absolutely. It's a completely ridiculous action movie, with huge guns, over the top characters, and Alicia Keys looking flat amazing. There were a few good performances in there, but it's mainly just one action set piece after another until the whole thing goes boom. I thought it was a lot of fun, if you're looking for a great plot or anything you'll probably be disappointed, but I'll be picking it up on HD-DVD tomorrow for sure.

RENT IT.

I'm a huge fan of the same films that you mentioned but I wasn't impressed at all by Smokin' Aces. There's FAR less action than the trailer suggests, the hotel sequence pales in comparison to True Romance's, and the film's set-up lasts a good 45 minutes before anything even remotely interesting happens. Expect a lot of talk, a convoluted, near-nonsensical "plot," and some really horrid acting (see, Matthew Fox, Ryan Reynolds, etc.).

Best parts of Smokin' Aces: Alicia Keys (yes, she does look amazing), Common (surprisingly convincing), and the poster.

Well, I did the blind buy, and man I'm glad I did!

What a great, entertaining, enjoyable film, and an awesome ensemble cast.

Should be nominated for Best Editing.

Can't wait to watch it again.

I agree with Timeandtide. I did the blind buy, liking the trailer in the theatres. Even liking the same things you listed, I expected much more from this film. It fell very flat for me. But that si only my opinion.

Good to know you liked it. I've watched it 3 times on HD-DVD, and yes I'll admit, it's mainly because of Alicia Keys in HD.

Finally got around to watching Smokin' Aces this past weekend, boy what a let down.
Alicia Keys was about the only thing I liked about it, she is just so rediculously hot!
