The Shield - "Baptism By Fire" - 4/10/07

I figured there'd be a thread for this one already.

Spoiler:
A warrant for Vic's arrest for Lem's murder is issued as a result of Emolia's statement and evidence Kavanaugh uncovers in Vic's house. But that's not stopping Vic from his single-minded determination to get revenge on Guardo. “Every second he breathes and Lem doesn't is unacceptable,” Vic tells Shane and Ronnie. Meanwhile, the Barn is getting the blame for the San Marcos murders, and Danny receives some good news---or maybe not---when she visits the Barn with her baby.

Don't they mean "evidence Kavanaugh planted in Vic's house"?

Kavanaugh has got to go down soon, he's just grasping at straws now.

Wow... interesting wrap-up to the Kavanaugh story there.

Vic's descent to madness (and carelessness) looks like it will certainly be his undoing.

CCH Pounder turned in another great performance in the interrogation room.

You've just got to love Billings working on Thursday just so he could take a three day weekend.

And the goofy smile when he tells Dutch his plan!

He bumps his head on the job and goes home sick...36 hours later.

I think he pisses off Dutch more than Vic.

Good episode tonight.

I wish Billings would get his own spin off. Just watching him fumbling around for all three minutes in this episode still has me

Plus, one could only imagine what Billings would even do with a three day weekend.

His spin off would only last 56 months!

BTW...Billings played an important part in the Mackey investigation...when the laziest ass detective in the barn doubts an open and shut case, Dutch and Claudette had to dig deeper.

What would he do with a 3 day weekend?
Doesnt he restore classic cars? Do I remember it correctly from his fuck up in the car wash murder?

You should check out the character David Marciano (Billings) played in Wiseguy 20 years ago. He was a serious psycho killer in that one.

Great episode. Looks like
Spoiler:
Cletus may confess next week

Great job by Forrest Whitaker for this role. He brought it every week.

It was cool seeing Dutch know Kavanaugh was lying.

Who was the chick in the preview?

Spoiler:
It sounded like Sarah Jessica Parker but the clip went by too fast to recognize and the video's not too clear.

I don't know who the actress was but it wasn't SJP. They put a bio up on the offical website for the new character last week.

It was funny that the guys did not think to check for the round that was in the chamber.

Yeah, I know next to nothing about guns, yet even I knew that he could have one in the chamber.

Wow. Great ep. That Training Day-esque scene where Vic is led into the basement in East L.A. was as tense as anything I've ever seen on TV. Testament to how great Chiklis is in this role: Vic could have singlehandedly taken down that entire gang in their backyard with a gun with one bullet and I would have believed every second of it.

is i just me or did kavanaugh's character 'resolution' feel really rushed? i mean he went down too quickly and quietly. i bought it, but it just felt too quick. to have such a build-up from being a 'by the book' cop to one who plants evidence to frame vic end so abruptly i was a little disappointed. i hate when shows drag out a resolution for too long, but i think his fall should have lasted a few more eps. i wanted to see him emotionally break down over turning to the ' dark side' (vic's side) over the ourse of 1-2 eps. come on, you have a guy like forrest whitaker (sp?) on set and you have all these great emotional scenes with him only to have his stroyline end so abruptly and emotionless? they could have gotten at least one more really great breakdown out of his character before his 'fall'. i wanted to see him go nuts and practically tear his house down or something. that would have been awesome. but fuck it, who cares cuz THE SHIELD owns all

Great episode and Whitaker will be missed if it was his last. I was really hoping to get a couple episodes worth of Dutch pursuing Kavanaugh pursuing Vic, but the resolution they came up with worked really, really well. Kavanaugh's final breakdown was amazing. Whitaker and the actor who plays Dutch completely nailed their performances while they were watching Claudette's interrogation.

If this were any other show, I'd be really worried about how they're going to squeeze out enough story to fill a season after this one. Given The Shield's history, I just take it on faith that they're going to come up with something great.

The Shield has a pat history of abrupt thread endings. I honestly think Ryan gets wrapped up in the next story arc and drops existing arcs very quickly, abruptly. Shane's lie detector test, Tavon's accident, Margos vs. Mackie. I think that may be his style. We expect the epic, Hollywood ending, but instead get the abrupt cut as Ryan hurtles to the next story arc.

Best show on TV right now. Not even a question.
