What's that movie?

I saw a movie recently were two men were talking and one man seems to be trying to coach/mentor the other. I forget the topic but one man was expressing a "why bother" attitude and the mentor figure said

"Why cut your finger nails? They'll only grow back."

I believe he had an accent. It's killing me I can't remember that movie. Was it "Children of Men"?
