Black Donnellys going on hiatus

Apologies if this had been reported already.
Black Donnellys going on hiatus

Posted Apr 3rd 2007 9:06AM by Bob Sassone

Another day, another show put on hiatus.

This time, it's The Black Donnellys. The NBC family crime drama, which replaced Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (itself currently on hiatus), will go on hiatus starting April 23. The show hasn't been doing too well in the ratings in the Monday at 10 slot.

And I know you're wondering: will Studio 60 return? Nope, at least not in that time slot. But for you fans of reality show, you're in luck! The Real Wedding Crashers, a new reality show based on the hit movie, will air in the Monday at 10 slot. NBC was going to put it on another night but they liked it so much (so much!!) that they're going to put it on after Heroes. The April 23 date is also the day that Heroes returns.

So, two quality dramas are put on the shelf, next to months of old boxes of macaroni and cheese, so another reality show can debut early. Fantastic.

With episode 3 only available on the internet--I didn't think NBC had much faith in this.

And so... neither did I.

I've actually never watched the show, but I was a devoted Studio 60 viewer.

It's a decent show -- a little over the top in the way it tries to generate conflict for the characters, but it's better than most of what's on right now. Of course, given the choice, I'd much rather have Studio 60, but we all know that's not going to work out.

I wonder what NBC will do when The Real Wedding Crashers predictably flames out after viewers tire of the premise in a few episodes.

It was fine if not a little slow moving in my opinion. Still entertaining - though not a replacement for Studio 60. Looks like I have now killed TWO shows in that timeslot.

I think they should commission a new drama series from David Lynch, then be all surprised when it turns out to be too weird and impenetrable for network TV.

No, wait - that would be something ABC would do.

I am fine with this decision. It will give Olivia Wilde more time to appear naked in films.

And what films, pray tell, has she thus appeared in?

Well, the main characters weren't black, so I can see how people got confused and didn't want to watch the show.

Man, I really hope "The Real Wedding Crashers" is about jackasses ruining real weddings for cash and prizes and the amusement of millions of Americans that love nothing more than to see other people humiliated.

Can't wait!

Yeah, CNN says officially "cancelled", not "hiatus".

Also officially cancelled, 7th Heaven, Wedding Bells, and 6 Degrees.

Ugh.

That's 2 for me this year, Black Donnellys and Studio 60.

Can't these networks give a show some time to develop an audience?

I barely ever get in to new shows, and the 2 I get into this year are both pretty much canceled.

Are they at least running a few more episodes?

So does Studio 60 have the last 6 or so episodes of the season already in the can? If so why doesn't NBC run them in dead slots on Friday or Saturday nights? Or perhaps even on Bravo? They paid for them to be produced, might as well air them. I'D WATCH THEM!

Apparently unless 20 million people are tuning in each week, the networks think a show is a failure.

I blame American Idol specifically and America itself in general.

This just in: American Idol is cancelled. Fox is disapointed, because there are far more than 30 million Americans who own television sets.

I recorded the first handful of episodes and was just never in the mood to watch them. I kinda saw the writing on the wall for this show observing the numbers. I already cleared the show from my DVR a few weeks ago. I guess I made the right call.

I went ahead and deleted last week's episode off the dvr and didn't bother to record last night's. It's just as well, since Jimmy was too annoying to allow me to continue watching much longer.
