Commentaries are from Mark Kausler, John K., Eric Goldberg, Leslie Cabarga, Mark Evanier, Jerry Beck, etc.
Jerry Beck says: "The restoration of these cartoons is simply amazing. I’ve seen them. You’ll throw away the copies you taped off Cartoon Network’s POPEYE SHOW. The Sindbad and Ali Baba specials will have you drooling. Long time fans will see things in this set you’ve never seen before."

Another blast from childhood.
I remember how violent these early ones were. I think there was one where under spinach power, Popeye decked a charging bull and it became slabs of cold cut meat, complete with labeling that you'd find in the butcher section.

Jerry Beck has just hinted on the Cartoon Brew message board about the new Popeye DVD that he will be breaking some Woody Woodpecker news on Tuesday (4/10).

Great news! What years did the Fleischer Bros. work on Popeye? Will Vol. 2 have Fleischer and Famous Studio shorts? I didn't know if anyone had specifics on how the volumes are arranged ... but if so, post away!

Cool, thanks for the post! I reckonize a lot of those titles. I thiink "The Football Toucher Downer" has Popeye showing off some pretty nifty kickoff return moves, if I remember correctly.

There will also be "bonus shorts". Perhaps, that means they'll finish off the year 1938 with the remaining shorts of that year. Thus, the second volume due at the end of the year would contain the remaining 41 Fleischer shorts from 1939-1942. And to round off the package, it would include the Famous Studios shorts up to, let's say 1944 (so Volume Two becomes 1939-1944).

Warner will be releasing all of the classic King Features Popeye cartoons on DVD in 2007. This will include all of the original theatrical shorts made from 1933 to 1957, along with the more recent made-for-TV shorts seen in the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

I'm really looking forward to this set too - and to Betty Boop from the same Fleischer Studios. I don't think I've ever seen the colour Sinbad episode!
