MgM repackaging dvds (New Covers)

Noticed that there are new covers out for

Hoosiers
The Good The Bad And The Ugly
Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More

i assume all of these are the same one discers with just new art, but none of the online stores have pics posted.

anybody have other titles or scans.

I saw one for The Usual Suspects a week or two ago at Best Buy.

I couldn't tell if it was the old one or the mysterious new one.

I'm assuming this has to do with the Fox acquisition of MGM titles. I bet there's a Fox logo somewhere on the packaging now.

i had not thought of that, but it makes sense. I'll check next time i see one pop up.

when paramount rolled out new covers, websites seem to have them all listed, but nothing here.

In The Heat Of The Night has a new cover too, Fox logo is on the back.

BTW, I thought this title was anamorphic when I bought it, but there's no mention of it on the packaging. Anyone have this and can comment? I'll be returning it if not.

Just saw this on Davisdvd.

20th Century Fox and MGM Home Entertainment will
be re-releasing a number of titles with new
Lenticular motion packaging. Due on June 5th are
The Abyss, Alien, Alien vs. Predator, I Robot,
Independence Day and Predator, with Robocop
and The Terminator following on June 12th. Also
being re-released, only this time in Steelbook
packaging, are Fight Club, Man on Fire, The
Omen (1976) and X2: X-Men United on June 5th,
with Hannibal following on June 12th. All titles will
have identical bonus materials to those already
available, this only a package change. Retail is $14.98 for the
Lenticulars and $22.98 for the Steelbooks.

Would THE ABYSS finally get 16x9 or just another release of the crappy non-anamorphic?

Doubt it, these are just more re-packs from Fox. I posted about this in the Abyss thread last week.

I suppose it would be foolish to hope that the new Robocop release with the fancy-schmancy cover will the unrated version that's only available in the boxed set with 2 and 3.

Is Fox now distributing the MGM/Sony catalog? What exactly is the deal there?

Sony sold all the pre-MGM buyout stuff to Fox.

Basically the new MGM stuff like "Casino Royale" and "Rocky Balboa" is controlled by Sony but all the other stuff (including previous films in those two series) are controlled by Fox.

If this isn't an April Fool's, I will double-dip for the packaging.

I like these re-releases. Forget the lenticular gimmick. Some of these simply have really good artwork.

Lenticular

Steelbook

Steelbooks are sweet, though I doubt I will double-dip for them if there aren't new transfers or something along those lines.

Unfortunately for me, Cast Away is not one of them.

I'd really dig X2 in a steelbook... not enough to rebuy just for a case though.

So I wonder if these repackagings are for the 1-disc or 2-disc versions of said films.

Seems to me that the "lenticular" covers are for single-discs and the "steelbook" covers are for double-discs.

Since there is no price savings and no new stuff, I'm assuming these are going to replace the previous versions?
