Should I upgrade to the Sony KDS-60A2000

I currently have a Panasonic TH-42PD50U EDTV and decide I want to upgrade to a 60" HD. My questions are
- will I see a dramatic difference between the two?
-the cheapest I've seen it is for around $2500...is it cheaper anywhere else?
-is there another 60" I should be considering? I don't have a preference as to plasma or projection.

That model is being clearanced, so if you pay attention to local ads, you may find it a little cheaper, maybe $2300 or lower. Personally, I think that model is a little dull-looking.

I'll disagree with Patman and say I don't think the KDS-60A2000 is dull looking at all. I settled on the 50-inch model only because the 60-inch was too big for my space.

You'll definitely see a difference, and it won't be subtle. You'll be going from 853p x 480p to 1920p x 1080p, and Sony's SXRD line offers amazing picture quality. There are a lot of user-adjustable picture settings, though, so you'll want to take your time and tweak the picture to get the best image. For me eyes (probably more sensitive to SSE), the Sony is better than the DLPs from Mitsubishi and Samsung in the SSE department (less high-gain screen being used, perhaps) , but the colors are better on the Samsung and Mits.

What's interesting is how big the price difference is between the Sony A2000 series and the Sony XBR2 series, but it's mainly for some extra tweak settings for the image quality. To my eyes, the XBR2 looks better than the A2000 series sets, and you have to wonder what Sony has done to compromise the image quality in the A2000 sets to warrant such a large price difference (per same screen size models) in their XBR2 sets.

I don't think there is any justification for how much Sony charges for its XBR line. It's just not worth it, in my opinion. And I'm confident a nonXBR SXRD can look every bit as good as the XBR stuff, it just takes a little more effort.

I have the 60A2000 and am very happy with it. HD material looks excellent on it. And it's getting cheaper due to the new models coming out. I'd definitely recommend that set.

My past experience with Sony Tvs have been:

Decent to very good image

All had a red push that was hard to tweak without losing flesh tone

Over priced period.

I think that is a Sony thing. I believe most (if not all) of their digital cameras have a red push too.

The SXRD models have adjustable white balance, so red push isn't an issue with these models.
