Hey, I am sure that there is already a thread around here about this but I was wonder if there is a big difference between the quality of a progressive scan DVD player and an upconvert. Could someone post some screenshots comparing the two? It would be a great help.

1- yes there are a couple of threads on thsi already.
2- it depends on the player, as well as the television
a good progressive scan DVD player connected to an HDTV with good upconverting built in may do better than an upconverting player.
what TV do you have? do you have a dvd player right now? progressive? do you NEED a new one?

As of right now i have a 42 inch LCD with a progressive scan player, but it is NOT hooked up via HDMI cause it does not have an output on the player. So i was looking to get an upconvert player

We're not going to be able to help much without knowing at least the brand of the TV and DVD player.

you could get an upconverting player. i cant imagine the proton being that good at upconversion.
dont go nuts on the player though. grab any decent upconverting player.
