New CTA cover:
Paramount Home Entertainment will kick off its Blu-ray and HD DVD summer slate with a double dose of Eddie Murphy, announcing two of the comedian's biggest hits for release this June.
Both $100 million-plus grossing blockbusters, 'Coming to America' and 'Trading Places' had each been released once before on standard-def DVD, but in bare bones versions that were quite lacking. Now, Paramount is reissuing both titles as fancy new Special Editions on June 5, on all three formats simultaneously -- DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD.
Though tech specs are not yet available, we expect Paramount's usual 1080p transfers and Dolby Digital 5.1 surround tracks. And given the "Special Edition" label attached to both flicks, we certainly hope for a considerable number of new extras.
Paramount has set a suggested $29.95 for each release.
Stay tuned for full specs and box art in the days ahead. In the meantime, we've added fresh listings for both titles to our complete HD DVD Release Schedule and Blu-ray Release Schedule, under June 5.
We've also set up dedicated threads for this Eddie Murphy bonanza in our Forums area -- click the following links to discuss the 'Coming to America' Blu-ray release and the 'Coming to America' HD DVD release, as well as the 'Trading Places' Blu-ray release and the 'Trading Places' HD DVD release.

Well, I paid 4.88 for Coming to America at Walmart, so upgrading won't be a huge deal for me.

Let's hope these were put together before the Oscars, otherwise I don't think Eddie's going to be too happy...

Not the same studio, I know, but here's to hoping also for a long overdue Special Edition of The Nutty Professor.
I wonder how careful one should be about buying that new Beverly Hills Cop set...they're already SCEs, I know, but you never know, especially when they're planning a fourth movie.

Have never seen Coming to America beginning to end, and didn't care for the parts I did see last time it aired. Much beloved film, I know. One of Eddie Murphy's favorites. Just remember being bored.
But Trading Places-- love it. This sounds like the long-awaited SE that was promised a few years back, but never delivered. Great news. Will likely pick it up.

I'll definitely buy Trading Places. One of Murphy's best.
I liked Coming to America when I was younger but it just hasn't held up that well, I'll probably skip it.
